Forgot my camera

Sunday, February 12, 2012

Ooops! I forgot my camera at home today when we left for church.

The car wouldn't start again today. We tend not to drive much on Saturdays, so I guess that is contributing to it not wanting to start on Sunday mornings. Thanks to one of our elders, it did get started and we made it to church on time.

I made a turkey and vegetable soup for the crockpot lunch at church, but no pics. Sorry.

I do have pics of breakfast and supper though. So I will post them.

Today was my take it easy day, so I only did 15 minutes on the trampoline and only got in 7000 steps. We enjoyed a quiet afternoon at home together as a family and got everything ready for the kids to go back to school tomorrow.

Breakfast: breakfast burrito with 2 eggs, low-fat cheese, tomatoes, peppers and tobasco emoticon

lunch: turkey and veggie soup

snack: cappuccino and gingerbread

supper: I thickened the left-over turkey soup up to make a stew and added dumplings, green tea

Thankful today for:

someone to teach me to knit
a crockpot
silence

I hope you get a good start to your week!

These certainly are SOUP days, aren't they! Missing the sunshine today - but the weekend was glorious. Must have been fun in Hamburg on the Alster!

    Sounds delightful!

Are you knitting the continental style or the more common process where you use one hand to throw the yarn over? Just curious because my dear MIL and GrandMIL taught me to knit continental style and I loved it. I made many things, but when the babies started coming I just didn't focus on knitting. A few years back I knitted a few things American style because that's all anyone around here knew. Even the yarn shop doesn't have an expert on continental. I remember the basics but when I get stuck, I don't have anyone to ask. I have looked at books and online videos, but that doesn't help for troubleshooting specifics. Sorry so rambling. I rejoice with you on the fun and challenge and satisfaction of knitting.

A brisk walk

Saturday, February 11, 2012

The weather was cold and sunny again today. So, we got out and took a brisk walk while trying to soak up as much vitamin D as possible, while exposing as little skin as possible. It was a good day.

We watched Babys today. Have you seen it? It is the documentary about 4 babies in 4 different countries as they grow up. It was fun watching it with our kiddos and talking about all of the funny things they did when they were babies.

Breakfast: spelt bread with coconut oil, ham and cheese, 18 grapes, coffee with soy milk, actimel

Lunch: garlicky shrimp with peppers, onions, and spinach, 2 scallops, 1 cup spaghetti, seltzer recipes.sparkpeople.com/recipe-detai
l.asp?recipe=1990491

My dad worked on a scallop boat when I was in school, so when they had these frozen scallops at the store this week, I snatched up a bag to share with the kids. They had never had them before. Then we googled scallops and talked about their Papaw and the work he used to do. 2 of the kids really liked them, but at least now they all know what they are!

snack: coffee with soy milk, oreos

dinner: pizza soup, garlic bread, raspberry fizz, canteloupe

Thankful today for

babies - all of them

I could never even start with 1 - I'd eat & eat.. emoticon

As usual your food looks tasty...I like scallops too.

It's funny - my 4 children, me & DH just watched that video too.... I hold a great admiration for the African culture....so simple....such strong individuals!
My least favorite was our American culture..... funny how that is. emoticon

Sledding

Friday, February 10, 2012

Our household chores and winter cleaning are done, so we headed out to play in the snow today. Back before the wall came down, our community had an outdoor ice rink every year, but with all the changes that happened the tradition no longer had any funding and ceased to exist. This year, with the help of a few benefactors, they restarted the tradition. Last Friday, the volunteer fire department flooded the area that is usually used for skateboarding and they set up a refreshment stand. For a small donation, the kids can play there all day, sledding, skating and warming themselves by the fire. We all had a blast sledding and the girls enjoyed skating. The 3 big-footed members of the family are without skates, but I did don my Yak-Trax and walk the ice with my littlest till she got the hang of things.

breakfast: breakfast burrito with tomato, cheese and egg, a blood orange, coffee with soy milk I remember the first time my 7th grade home ec teacher suggested breakfast tacos. I thought she was crazy. Then, as soon as we put taco sauce on them, I fell in love.

lunch: open-faced tuna melt, guacamole, pineapple, tomatoes, waffle fries, green tea

snack: coffee with soy milk, oreos

supper: cucumbers, corn bread, corn and carrots, meatballs, seltzer

Thankful today for:

Yak-trax for making it back up those snowy hills.

Love all the great photos, food presentation, and the snow! I drove back in a flurry of snow in the headlights last night only to find nothing new on the ground at my home. (sad, sad) My lightweight jacket, however, was not enough to stave off the shivering cold we're finally getting a little of today. Burr! Now I'm feelin' a little better about making my way to a warmer climate soon.

Looks like you had a great day outdoors. I couldn't wait to get out into the snow this year to "play". We have had hardly any snow to speak of here in NY. Oh well, I can still jog outside at least.

Love all the great detail you give to presentation. That can be as much (or more) of the enjoyment of eating than eating itself. Yummy!

Yum, thanks for the recipe links. I am going to try the garden guacamole dish for sure!

When we make pancakes we add powdered buttermilk to the dry ingredients. It helps to make them fluffy.

Delighting in mushrooms

Wednesday, February 08, 2012

Breakfast: whole grain bread, coconut oil, one sliced boiled egg, paprika, grape tomatoes, bell peppers, actimel, coffee with soy milk

lunch: 4 oz of turkey, 2 oz actifry potatoes, 2 tbsp peas, seltzer

supper: 1 cup spaghetti, .5 cup mushrooms, 2 oz hamburger, fresh spaghetti sauce, green tea

I love adding mushrooms to just about everything. It add volume to my meals without many calories. Unfortunately, most of the family does not like them though. Notice though, 2 plates with just mushrooms and noodles for 2 goofy kids that don't like hamburger and spaghetti sauce.

Thankful today for sunshine, spark hugs and mushrooms.

Your meals delight the eye! I commend you! I am a firm believer in presentation making a huge difference in taste and enjoyment. Research bears this out also....I'm thinking of books The End of Overeating and Mindless Eating.

Anyway, your photos are a feast for the eyes and a genuine pleasure! Like a little oasis of artistry in my day!

We love mushrooms here too. I think we eat them almost every day. Sometimes in our egg beaters, or like today I made mushroom soup or the night before last I made Mushroom Risotto. First time I ever made rispttp and it was delicious!

Your children are lucky to have a Mom who eats so healthy!

More hugs coming your way. I, too, love mushrooms. The black mushrooms from the Asian food store, make the best tasting and rich broth for vegetarian soups. I put a 1-1.5 cups of diced mushrooms on my healthy pizza on 90-calorie whole wheat Flat Out Bread. Yummy!
