Working on the Trim

Monday, September 22, 2014

Last summer, I baby-stepped and stutter-stepped into Trim Healthy Mama. My sister gifted me with the book and got me started. I told my friends and family all about my new plan, but added the disclaimer that I would let them know after 6 months if it really worked or not. I have tried so many things along the way, I hated the idea of pulling a lot of people in the boat with me and then having us all sink together. Then, on September 1, 2013, I started 100% on plan and my daughter took these wonderful before pictures of me in my new outfit. I planned to take my one year pictures in the same outfit, but as you can tell, that didn’t work out so well. That size 14 skirt fell right off of me! Some alternations are definitely in order.

When I started, I prayed about a goal weight, but instead God gave me a goal waistline of 33 inches. I am at 35” and hope to be at goal by Christmas. I have lost 35 pounds so far. The last weight loss plan that I'd followed previously promised to be a healthy, balanced approach to weight control. It worked great for about 2 months, but left me with gout and a steady weight gain even though I was working out 6 hours a week. Now, I can say, it has been months since I have felt any pain from gout. I am still learning and improving on the THM plan which is probably one of the things that I love about THM, though I haven’t done it perfectly, I have still made progress.

My most recent tweak is to put up a meal planning center in my kitchen so that I have a better visual of what we are eating. The menu board also encourages more family participation in food choices which brought about the surprising revelation that my kids want to have oatmeal more often! With school starting and our fall routine coming into play, I will also be adding some more exercise to my schedule. I remember not wanting to spend the money on yet another program, so it has been a blessing to be able to pay it forward and gift the THM book to others along the way. I owe a big thank you to Above Rubies for making me aware, to my sister for getting me started, to THE sisters for investing so much of themselves in ministering to us, to my THM FB friends for their support and encouragement and most of all to my Lord for guiding me all along the way. Now, here I am a year later shouting out to all of my friends and family, “THM works! Come join me!”

Happy Sunny Sunday!

Sunday, May 19, 2013

We had a beautifully sunny Sunday here. We went for a long walk downtown and back and enjoyed coffee in the garden with some friends.

I was planning to fail today, but didn't anyhow! Ha! I woke up this morning and tracked my breakfast. Then, at church found out that old friends of ours were in town, so I figured with cake and coffee the day would be done for. I did have cake with them in the garden, but then when it came time to track tonight, I was able to find everything so easily in the tracker that I went ahead and logged it anyhow. And it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be.

Here are my totals for the day:

13200 steps
2242 calories burnt
23 minutes very active (fast walking)
5.5 miles
4 flights of stairs
and only 47 calories my goal for the day

And here is a little glimpse into my garden. The columbine are blooming so beautifully right now!

That is a great day. You have beautiful flowers. We have another month or so until ours will start blooming, they haven't even started growing much yet.

Weeds be gone!

Friday, May 17, 2013

I spent a large part of the morning pulling weeds and edging flower beds.
My strawberry plants are looking really good! I am so excited. I tripled our strawberry beds last fall. yummers! I can hardly wait. They should be ripe in about 4 weeks. emoticon
The blueberry bushes are looking good as well. We have never had this many blossoms on our bushes before. emoticon
The cherry tree is doing great, but the peaches are not having a very good year. emoticon

Fajitas for lunch and fresh salad with lemon garlic shrimp for supper.

steps: 15923
miles: 6.5
calories: 2751
water: 12 glasses

I love my garden too! emoticon emoticon emoticon
I freeze the surplus strawberries so that they get me though winter - great for smoothies and jam. Probably have about 600-1000 plants ( started with 6 they multiply like triffods).

My blueberry bushes are babies as are most of my fruit and nut trees. Citrus is going a treat - get limes and lemons and mandarins already.

There is something so great about going into your garden to get fresh produce. I am even contemplating getting some chickens emoticon - hopefully that wont upset the neighbours emoticon

Life sounds great - keep going

I'm so jealous of all of you that have gardens! It sounds like you have quite a piece of land and that you are making the most of it. All I have is a patio so I have a few house plants, an avocado tree starting, and 2 tomato plants. I'm just hoping that I actually get some tomatoes off of it this year and that my avocado tree continues to grow.

You got a lot of work done today and covered a lot of ground! Good job. I am still a little shy of 10K for the day so I need to get to walking so I can get them all in before midnight.

Berlin

Thursday, May 16, 2013

We walked through the gates of Babylon, climbed the stairs at Pergamon, listened to the bells of the Hugonots, went underground, marched under the arch at Brandenburg, picnicked on the Spree, strolled Unter den Linden, dunked a donut, stormed passed more than a couple embassies, and ate pizza at the hut today. It was a good day.

totals:
30 flights of stairs
20206 steps for the day
8.3 miles
2600 calories

That is a great way to get your exercise in. I wish my DH didn't get bored so easy and was interested in more things because we spend more time on the couch with him playing XBOX and me here on SP than we do anything else. I try to get him involved and buy tickets to go do different things but I hate to feel like I'm making him do things that he doesn't want to.

Ha! Evelyn, with the price the hut charges here, I can't afford to tip the scales there. And the rest of the family enjoyed the donuts while I sipped my coffee. It was good! We picnicked on fresh fruits and veggies and homemade biscuits. I walked my hiney off, drank my water and didn't go overboard on the treats. Victory, oh victory, . . .

Wow ... Great workout. Hopefully the hut didn't do too much damage with your nutrition tracker. Sounds like a gorgeous day.

Root canal surgery anyone?

Monday, May 13, 2013

I got in to the dentist this morning and sure enough, it was as bad as I had feared. I have been babying a tooth for a few years now, but this head-cold, sinus infection that I have, did it in. My weakened immune system allowed the infection to spread to that tooth. For the sensitive among us, you may want to turn away. The nerve had abscessed and infection had spread to the roof of my mouth. The first thing my darling dentist did though was to put me out of my misery. Praise the Lord! Really! I was so very thankful. She gave me the best shot I have ever received (thankfully not lethal, but at that point, I wasn't being too picky). Needless to say, it wore off all too quickly though.
Then after a quick x-ray, she did a speedy root canal, packed the tooth with meds and sent me on my merry, well maybe not all too merry, way.
Thanks to an ice pack and some ibuprofen, I proceeded to sleep the rest of the afternoon away.
It has been a marvelous protein shake kind of a day. I got my 8 glasses of water in though! Woo Hoo!
Thank you to everyone who was praying for me. Keep it up! I'm on the mend, but not up to Nordic walking yet - maybe tomorrow.
Off to take a pH bath now and try to fight the remainder of the infection.
Good night all!
See you in the morning!

I have a root canal looming in my future too. I'm having sensitivity to heat even though the filling was just replaced. Glad you're recovering nicely. You'll be logging fitness minutes in no time.

Ouch! I don't like going to the dentist, except for a good cleaning - although, that in itself is still no fun - just love how my teeth feel afterwards!
So, did they knock you out?
Glad it got caught and taken care of. Hope you will be back to feeling well soon!
