As we start changing seasons remember your sunblock or SPF moisturizer/lotions. Even if you are going outside to play with your kids, or going out for some outdoor exercise, it is important to make sure you are protected!!
2 years ago this July I was diagnosed with skin cancer and have had to learn to remember my SPF, EVERY DAY! Now I have never been a "sun worshiper", but I am fair skin, always outside in the sun non-stop & both my paternal grand mother & my mother have a history of skin cancer -- so it is/was important for me to always be careful.
The spot was on my cheek, so close to my jaw line that I rarely ever looked at it to see if it changed -- I had had this spot forever, guess I don't remember not ever having it. One day my mother told me I should have it looked at, and to be honest, I brushed it off (just one more thing to do during my busy days). A few weeks after she had told me that I noticed something black on my face & tried washing it off not realizing it was the spot. Freaked out & called my dermo immediately. Took them a whole month to get me in & after a few days of waiting for the biopsy & thinking it was nothing, I received the call.
So always be looking at your skin & be aware of anything that looks different or looks like it has change. Luckily I had mine checked out in time & was able to capture it all. Now I'm super careful & see my dermo every 6 months.
