Puppies!!

I really need to remember by camera ...

Sal - 7 year old Lhasa/Pom mix... very sweet - very smart... and very very handsome... walked really well and was very friendly.

Mamie - part hound part lab part something else - 9 months old and strong and stubborn and seemed to get a great deal of entertainment out of tripping me when we walked.. but a sweetheart -and was on her way to the other facility to be placed for adoption... Good luck Mamie.. youll get your home.

Zippy - not the same zippy from the last entry a new zippy - 10 months old, part chihuaua without the annoying yappiness part something else.. came up to mid calf but had a real big dog attitude... also headed to the adoption center to get a forever home...

Norman - a min pin... sweet, bigger than I'd expect... friendly - and instead of the dog chasing his tail - he had the trick of making me turn in circles as he'd run around me... an i'd have to spin around to untangle teh leash... Good trick but made me dizzy :) and he liked to jump too..

Bertha - a yorkie poodle mix - who'd been recently shaved but still had poodletude - sweet and friendly and just happy to be outside.

Luke - all hound - wasn't so sure about walking outside -but eventually got it... strong puppy..

and my personal favorite -Butch... all mutt -but beautiful coat.. Butch was happiest when he was being petted.. Butch could sit, heel, and give paw.... and when you faced him and scratched his ears.. he'd put his paws on my thighs... and then wrap them around my legs and put his head on my lap.. while standing - never quite saw a dog hug before... really wanted to take him home with me..

and Mini and Smokie - both of whom were new to the center and stayed in their cages and just trembled...maybe next week for them.... poor babies were too scared this week

On Morning Exercise

Thursday, June 18, 2009

Too little sleep this week is making me crabbier than normal - I usually don't read the majority of the spark people mailers because 1 the points are just pointless... and 2 the topics have little interest to me... this morning's on morning exercise just really irritated me.

What the FUC*? Get up an hour earlier?

Oh sure -I already get up at 5am for work - so I'm supposed to get up at 4:00am? umm 4am is the day before -when the bars are just close -it's yesterday not today... 4 am and morning exercise is just not going to FUC*ing going to happen...

Making coffee, showering, making sure my shoes match are as close to exercise as I will get in the morning before walking a mile to the train...

It seemed to me like they were saying morning people are better than night owls....um, no.

I didn't read that article, but now I am going to have to!! I am lucky that with our recent move I am now only 15 minutes away from work - so I don't have to get up till 7:30 to leave by 8:10 to start at 8:30 - so getting up earlier would be doable - but it sure isn't an automatic - before we moved I was leaving for work before 7am so yeah, no way I was going to get up at 5 to have time to workout

I can't even imagine what 4 am looks like little alone exercising at that hour! Yipes!

uppy fun today
Zippy - a 7 month old yellow lab (big boy too, probably about 50lbs right now) who definitely earned his name - he zipped here and there and everywhere -i could just here the running commentary in his little head -Play play play go here sniff play play play - go faster play play. Except when i went to pet him and scratch his ears -when my hand came hear his head -he flinched... poor puppy...

Veronica - a 4 month old shepard puppy - who go partnered with her sister Betty - double trouble... all fun all play all lots of energy..

Gracie - a 3 year old yellow lab - sweetest puppy ever.. smart as anything -understood sit, especially when another bigger dog approached... She walked very well and was so cute....

Magna - a 5 year old cocker spaniel... well trained... liked to walk - just being out in the sun- very shy when approaching other animals or people -but soooo sweet.

May - a beagle/lab mix puppy -high energy as well - all play all the time... her 20 minute walk wasn't enough -she would have stayed out all day given the choice.

Hercules - a chihuahua/Pomeranian mix... very tiny, very shy... but very sweet...

Cupcake - Teacup poodle - wasn't too sure about walking - until i put my hand out to her, and she let me leash her and away we went. Sassy and sweet and definitely didn't take any crap from the big old pit bulls on the route what a cutie -loved having her ears scratched.

there were one or two others, I just cant remember their names.. I just do really want to take them all home with me

The pups are very sweet... but it's heart breaking - because I want all these sweet pups to have homes.. Gracie absolutely broke my heart... Sweetest big lab... listened... sat when told to sit... loved the ear scratching... but has no home... :( it's sad...

Puppies - Week 3

Monday, May 11, 2009

Got to play with Frank again - frank was the yorkie last week who tried to get eaten by a Pitbull. He looked so much better this week and just had a spring in his step... and actually got a little sassy with Cujo, the attack Golden on our path... :D

Then there was JP, a really sweet puppy, unknown breed, but absolutely beautiful coat..JP got his final walk in at 26th street because as I headed back inside teh caretakers loaded him in the van to go to North Clyborn to get adopted and find a forever home.. perfect pup for someone who's got a litle energy - JP seemed to be happiest when I was jogging.. yeah run fat ass run :) Good puppy... :D

Barney, a sweet shy little Lhasa Apso -or however you spell it.... I spent about 5 -10 minutes croaching in front of his cage, with my hand out as he sniffed and licked and sniffed again and decided if I was a good human or a bad human.. My guess is -he's been around too many bad humans... but he figured i was ok, and had treats so off we ent.

Cinderella... a little poodle who was found abandonded by wandering the streets, and caught by Animal Care and Control... That's pretty much death row for puppies, and where PAWS gets teh majority of their dogs from... Shaved because she had matted fur.. but sweet, and licky.. and really friendly.

Eskimo - a 10 month old, Alaskan Malamute, with the most mesmorizing brown eyes... brown dog and strong... Eskimo probably weighed about 65lbs now, they get to be about 90lbs I've read.. and are built for endurace not speed... that I can tell.. our entire walk -and she walked longer than most of the other dogs I had and pulled on the leash the entire time... crossing the street with her was a challenge...I was reading earlier that these dogs are also fast.. and shoudl never be allowed off leash because tthey will just keep running.

Whomever turned this dog in, I'd bet did so because they couldn't control it because they didn't take the time for obedience lessons... this dog needed some...

There were two others that I just can't remember their names.... sweet puppies all of them...

PAWS gets the majority of their animals from Animal Care and Control which is a kill shelter... I can't imagine having the job to go thru the shelter and decide which animals live or die... but what's interesting.. that a lot of the animals at ACC do get second, third and fifth chances with PAWS, its never a first impression only.. which is nice...

I've always been a fan of getting animals from shelters over breeders, and the like... but this really brings it home.... and even for people who want pure breeds.. they are in the shelters - shelter's arent all just mixed breed mutts...

It's so wonderful that you are volunteering there. Our local shelter is a kill one, so I won't go there; too easy to become attached, y'know?
Good to see you posting again! Hope all is well.

Puppies - Week 2

Monday, May 11, 2009

Sunny day and puppies.. what more can a person ask for..

There was Arlene - an absolutely gorgeous and high spirited black lab puppy - she's about 9 months old... Doesn't listen very well and seriously wants to do her own thing... I definitely had a bonding moment with her...

And Shaggy - a very perfectly named terrier mix... Shaggy was about 2 years old and so ugly he was cute... and loved his scooby snacks... Shaggy was very well behaved and really liked to walk...

Abby - not sure what she was -but she had a gorgeous coat... dark brown and really silky soft - she loved being out in the air.. but poor puppy had surgery so she had one ofthose halo things around her neck - made stairs and doggy exploring a challenge.

Wolfie- a pure white 9 year old puppy.. big dog who howls like a wolf but extremely sweet and well trained... this dog knows how to walk and sit, and stay and behave himself - this dog needs a home...

Zucchy - a 3 year old beagle - all play all the time. with a fascination with birds...wanted to chase the birds but got perplexed when they'd fly away.. seemed unfair to him...

and Frank - a yorkie - normally not a fan of the little dogs, but this dog... his body was just starting to grow hair again.. because he had been completely shaved to be stitched back together.. after he had been mauled by another dog and left for dead... Friendly and sweet and just a great puppy... how could anyone do that do a puppy.

Found a better route to walk the babies this week - no pitbulls -just Cujo - Cujo (not his real name) was a golden retriever who looked so docile and sweet as he was laying on his sidewalk behind a gate -til a dog walked by... and then he turned into Cujo the rabid dog... bark bark bark growl hiss bark... really ferocious -I had no idea that Golden's had it in them...
