Post Thankgiving Day Update

Saturday, December 04, 2010

Well ladies and gentlemen, I must be either a mouse or man because my well laid plans for tracking the foods for Thanksgiving definitely went array. Well, it's not as bad as it sounds, I may not have been able to track my food, but I did not munch the entire day, in fact I had breakfast, lunch, a snack and for dinner I stuck to one serving and treated desert as a desert and not a part of dinner. So all in all I think I did pretty well and I feel pretty good.

Now I have to admit that when I weighed myself on that following Sunday (my normal weekly weigh in day) I was shocked to see that I gained 2.5 lbs. However, I refuse to believe that I did something to cause this. You see I keep my calorie intake to the low end of the specified calorie spectrum and I went well over my exercise goals. In fact I believe that the gain in weight was due to increase in muscle. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. emoticon In fact my stomach seems to be a little less firm. This of course led to my loose skin scare and prompted my post to the message board asking if 3 lbs/wk weight lose was too much (I lost 3 lbs that previous week). It also led me to take my measurements and to utilize the fat monitoring option on my scale. I also decided to only keep my calorie intake to the low end of the spectrum on my non workout days and in the mid range to high end on my workout days. We'll see how this works, because I REALLY don't want to end up with loose skin/stretch marks because I'm losing weight too fast. Not if I can prevent it.

The new thing I did this week was I created a circuit training workout for myself to do at home. I used the 30 minute circuit training workout that Sparkpeople has. I have to admit that all those emails (yes I read them all) that Sparkpeople sends are very helpful. In fact that's how I knew where to look to get the information on how to create your own personal circuit training workout.

Tomorrow is the end of my week and the big weigh in is on Sunday. Wish me luck.

I'm happy to report that I sill gun ho emoticon about this journey I'm on and I all welcome fellow travelers.

How R U Handlling the T-Day Feast?

Wednesday, November 24, 2010

The question has been going around about how are you going to handle the calorie temptation of the Thanksgiving Day Feast. Well, my family (small family of 3) and I have decided to make life a little easier by treating the meal as any other meal. We're having a turkey and making one serving per person of the various side dishes. Although there may be a little more of them (i.e. 3-4 instead of the usual 1-2) there will be NO leftovers, except for the turkey. And we decided to limit the desert to 1 small portion of each.

I expect my calories to be high but not astronomical (Hopefully). Anyway I've been racking up the cardio minutes this week and keeping to the low end of my daily calorie intake to help offset the munch out session on T-Day. Well, that's the plan anyway. Hopefully it won't go the way of most plans for mice and men and even if it does no worries. I'll just dust myself off and get back on the proverbial horse.

Seems to me you have the perfect attitude for this big day. As a Brit we don't celebrate Thanksgiving but I wish you all the best

I plan to hit the gym around 9am and do at 60 mins of Cardio. Go home and eat a light breakfast. My Aunt is cooking so I will have to really concentrate on portion control. Nobody in my family is concerned about there weight at the moment, so its up to me to keep myself in control. Your plan sounds great!!

How Late Is Too Late?

Tuesday, November 23, 2010

I've been wondering how late is too late. You see I'm a night time eater. What I mean is that whether I eat at normal hours or not, my hunger doesn't kick in until around 3pm and then I can continue to eat until late evening, like 12am. So my question is, is there a time at which you should stop eating for the day or is there a set number of hours you should stop eating before you go to bed. So far I'm battling the nighttime munchies off, but it can be so hard.

According to Spark People, as long as you stay within your calorie range you should be OK.

However, that does not work out for me... I have changed my way of eating recently and eat more in the morning, a little less at lunch time, have a small snack around 4 p.m. and then I eat very light in the evening (if I'm still hungry). With this way of eating, I have managed to lose 18 lbs since June 1st of this year.

No set time, so long as it's a balanced diet and your eating the correct amount of calories. Little an often seems sensible 2 me! emoticon

I am a nighttime muncher as well. I love a) salty snacks, and b) salty snacks in the evening. I've always heard don't eat 2-3 hours before you go to bed, but i am not sure if this is true? I have a horrible habit of eating at night to relax and struggle with this daily. If you find the answer please do share!

Getting More Organized

Tuesday, November 23, 2010

This is day 2 of week 2 and I finally sat down and completed my meal plan for the entire day, before breakfast. It has been so much easier not scrambling to figure out what I can eat and still keep within my goals. I was able to focus on my fats and proteins, which are my problem areas, instead of just my calorie intake.

On the exercise front, I increased my cardio from 10 minutes to 15 minutes, and guess what; I didn't keel over and pass out. Onward and upward I say.

My goal this week is to keep my calorie intake on the low end and my cardio on the high end to offset the big Turkey Day. I'm actually feeling pretty confident that the damage won't be too bad because we're preparing a turkey and all of the side dishes will be 1 serving only, no leftovers. We also decided that we were going keep track of the calories for all of the dishes we're serving, that way we will have a good idea of how much extra exercise we need to creatively sneak in. This way that desert will taste all the sweeter.

Well that's my game plan; I'll let you know how it goes.

Not enough protein seems to be my problem area too, but with the help of the nutrition tracker I'm working on it.
