I'm so proud of you for doing this! And I know you CAN! When I first joined the Y I was really self conscious about being around others. I quickly found out that they were there for the same reason as me and not to look or laugh at me. :) We all know that's the first feeling we get. Being in a class is really great and you meet others who will support you even more through the program. You go girl! HUGS!

I GOT THIS FROM USMAWIFE PAGE

This yarn shop is near the elementary school where the tragedy in Newton happened today. If you would like to send something to help those affected, here is the information for you to donate to

Our hearts are with those lost in today's tragedy in Newtown. To all of the mothers & fathers, brothers & sisters, and the entire community of Sandy Hook, we are thinking of you and stand with you.

This is just in the beginning stages, but we'd like to organize a donation effort for the children of Sandy Hook Elementary School. We'd like to collect KNITTED/CROCHETED STUFFED ANIMALS/TOYS and deliver them to the little ones in Newtown, CT to try to offer comfort during this unimaginably tragic & confusing time.

If you have a pattern, feel free to use it. If you need suggestions, Ravelry has plenty of free patterns. Here is a link

WIN SOME - LOSE SOME

Friday, December 14, 2012

I cant believe I actually did this. Today I signed up @ Gold's Gym for the wins some lose some challenge. It is as a Biggest Loser type challenge. You could do either 6 or 9 mths; hubby signed me up for the 9 mth program (cost the same total cost but less a mth). This is my Christmas - 3 Kings Day & b-day gift. It will make money a little tight but its less then he spends a mth on cigarettes.
I didnt know until after I signed up but there are even some cash prizes. My first official weigh in will b on Monday; its a little scary for me but I've tried so many other things I think that this is just what I need to jump start my new journey. I have to do 3 classes a wk; fill out paper work about exercise & food. Not to mention I can use Gold's Gym anytime I want n they even have child care if La happens to b off from school.
Not only will I b exercising @ the gym but it is a 20 minute ride there on the bike and a 20 min bike ride back.
I will keep an update of this 6 mth journey as part of my daily blogs.

In closing I offer up prayers to the families that have been effected by the shooting in Conn today.

New Traditions

Wednesday, December 12, 2012

New beginnings also means new traditions.
The first new tradition that we've decided is that every main holiday we will be having a different type of meat:
New Years Day - pernil (pork shoulder)
Easter - ham
Thanksgiving - Turkey
Christmas - Roast (beef)

I use to do this and hubby has decided we should go back to. Instead of a Christmas tree we have a manger scene. The manger along w Joseph & Mary goes up the day after Thanksgiving; on Christmas Eve - Jesus gets added. Then on January 6 the 3 Kings get added (we celebrate both Christmas & 3 Kings Day). On Christmas Eve the gifts get put around the manger; before the gifts get open we thank God for the gift of Christ.

Now the following is a combination of my grandmothers & a dear friends traditions. New Years Day along with pernil (pork for good luck) we will have collard greens (greens for financial for the coming year) and some type of beans usually pigeon peas or blackeye peas. they are suppose to bring good fortune for the coming year

As we move forward in our lives in a new place - we will find out what traditions are best for us.
