Its Good & Bad News

Saturday, February 12, 2011

Good news - I was discharged from physical therapy
Bad news - its because there is nothing they can do to help w the chronic pain

I m very frustrated I m blessed to have health insurance. Its state insurance due to having my granddaughter n not being able to work presently. The problem is that it takes so long to get anything done. My primary care physician refers to c a specialist that specialist refers me to another specialist but I have to go back to my primary to get a referral from him to go c the 2nd specialist & on n on. I took over a mth to get the referral straightened out but I have an apr fro pain management on the 21st. After the consultation they will schedule the epidural I have to do a cpl series of these then go back to the specialist to c if they r helping @ all. If they r I will continue w them if not they will schedule that spinal fusion that 3 drs agree I need done.

I m suppose to call back about the mental therapy on Monday. Not only do I have to schedule mine I have to set up 4 my granddaughter to receive therapy.

I m still on the breathing machine every 4 hrs. Even when Ihad pnuemonia my asthma was not this bad.

I would think after losing over 60 lbs I would feel alot better; instead my health is playing tricks w me & my health is going in the opposite direction.

I truly feel overwhelmed @ this point. I just m really having trouble coping with all that is goin on.

I am glad you are starting to get answers it is a start... Now you know what has to be done ... it may take time but the sooner this is all put into action the sooner you will be out of pain! .
I am very aware of back pain I have suffered it mostly all my life as I also have suffered with Chronic Asthma . my issues started to get better when i started to move!.
I had to really push my way through the pain barrier to exercise ....Just a little each day .. and build up on it ! .Not only am I now mostly free of pain my asthma is nowhere near as bad ..
I hope you find a suitable exercise that you can do ... also my losing so much weight has also decreased the pain and the breathing problems ...

Spent the Morning in the ER

Sunday, February 06, 2011

Got up this morning coughing with chest pains and sharp shooting pains in my back between my shoulder blades. I drank half a cup of coffee and took a breathing treatment; my breathing got a little better but the pains. I could barely walk due to the sharp shooting pains in my shoulder blades.
The ambulance gave me oxygen my levels were very low. A the hospital they did a blood & urine work up & a chest xray. They gave me another breathing treatment. According to the Dr there was improvement in my lungs after each thing the oxygen n the treatment. Time wise it wasn't that bed I guess partly because they took me straight back and started testing me; I spent a little over 3 hrs there.

Recommended treatment is bed rest for 2-3 days and breathing treatments every 4 hrs. They feel that part of the problem with the pain between my shoulder blades are from me falling this past week and i bruised something inside. They want me to lay on my side with knees bent or if i lay on my bac I should have pillows under my knees.

I m still having sharp pains when I take a deep breathe or cough or yawn. I have to do c my family dr this wk after I rest for a few days.
I m suppose to find out tomorrow when i m gonna get my epidural steroids.

My depression is getting alot worse I just lay in the bed for hrs not even watching tv just laying there. I m calling tomorrow to set up appts for both me n La. She has things that a 5 yr old shouldnt have to deal with n my dr says that my depression is partially due to her issues n it causing me flash backs. I also feel guilty for sending her to live with her parents n then her getting hurt there.

If it wasn't for my belief in God and for supportive friends here on sparkpeople; i would probably b in a rubber room by now.

Glad you got taken care of quickly at the ER but sorry about the sharp pains between the shoulder blades. Do what you can and remember God is there for you.

Hope your breathing improves. I know it is hard to stay positive when you're not feeling well especially when bed ridden.

You're taking the right step to see the doctor for depression. God will guide you through this tough time.

I Don't Know How To

Saturday, February 05, 2011

I really dont know how to ask ppl for help. I have always been a very independent person. So this is really hard for me lately. I have asked a few ppl for a few favors and they been good about it but it is so hard for me. I'm used to doing everything for myself. I'm the person that helps every1 else.

Over the last 4 yrs I went from over 300 lbs n I m now down to 238 lbs but I seem to b stuck. Over the last year I have went up n down between 250 n 240 lbs. I just dont know wat to do. My dr wants me to take diet pills. My inches do continue to go down. None of my clothes from last year really dont fit; they are too loose.

Half the time I feel like I'm gonna have a nervous breakdown. My meds arent helping with my nerves or with my pain lately. Stress is not a good thing especially when trying to lose weight.

Hubby has about 30 days left on his contempt of court (prayerfully if he ever has to go back to court for anything he wont argue w the judge)

I fell 3 times this wk on the ice the 1st time I came down on my knee; it was a little sore but is fine now. The 2nd time I fell it was my back; thankfully I'm already in therapy. The 3rd time I fell I bent the hand that I need carpal tunnel surgery n my arm is still sore. 2 of the falls was taking La to school and the last one was picking my nephew up from school.

When my bil picked up my nephew on my he yelled at me well kind of cause I didnt call him about all the snow. Even though he had just worked n is on on his feet all day he chopped up all of the ice in front of my house & removed some more snow.

Sweetie-I'm sending many hugs to you right now! Your blog sounds like you're a little stressed to say the least. Take a deep breath.

First of all - WOW look how far you've come! Never underestimate what you can do. You are strong! Inches are progress too.

Secondly - I think since you've made it this far without diet pills that you should ignore your doctor or consider a different one. Doesn't he/she see how far you've come without those pills?? I think that is amazing.

Third - Maybe you should try to change up your eating habits a bit (maybe go vegetarian for a week, or reduce your carb intake for a week). Or try a different exercise. Sometimes our bodies get to a point that they say, hey, I know what you want me to do and that's when they stall. You don't want it to become complacent so change it up.

KUDOS to you for your progress. It is an inspiration. Never give up!

Congratulations on a great loss - and NEVER be worried about asking for help - we are here to help and support you - there are lots of people will say exactly that!!
Ah! Ha! The old Plateau!! Dreaded things!!
When you lose a lot of weight as you have - there comes a ime when the body will stop losing and allow the measurements catch up with the weight!!
Its natural - also because you have lost fat - that is more bulky than muscle - but they weigh the same - so I would guess that the body fat % is dropping and the lean mass rising!!
This is exactly as it should be!!
The temoptation here is to try to speed things up - or to chuck in the whole kaboodle!!
Really I have found that the best thing is - to keep on as I was - and be patient!!
Enjoy awhat you have lost, enjoy the extra mobility and flexibility and - soon you will find the weight will drop.
If it doesn't - try tracking EVERYTHING, and weighing EVERYTHING, and tracking exercise too!!

Viral Syndrome & Pneumonia

Tuesday, January 25, 2011

Well its gonna b another rough couple of weeks for me. It seems that La & I have something called VIRAL SYNDROME (more on that further down). I do believe that we r both on the road to recovery but unfortunately my other health issues have been compromised asthma, bronchitis, sinusitis & now the pneumonia is back. I m back on the nebulizer every 6 hours. They cant put me on the antibiotics cause I just finished a round of very strong penicillin

The worse part for me is the fevers last night mine was so bad I was hallucinating. La's fever finally broke last night; prayerfully for good.

I get tired very easily so I m spending most of my time in bed. Today though I aired out my room & changed the sheets; I had to lay down after doing that. I m not use to being this run down from any illness. I havent been able to hold much food or drink in me since Thursday. I finally had a cup of coffee this morning NEVER HAS COFFEE TASTED SO GOOD!

Just one it would b nice that when I got sick I could the mild version of an illness but it seems with me its always the extreme but then again I dont always take very good care of myself. Today was the 1st time that I left my house since Friday. If it wasn't for La going back to school i probably wouldnt have left the house. The drs said she could go back yesterday but I kept her home an extra day and still doesnt think she shouldnt have went back. But she is in this school thru a special transfer even though I live only 3 1/2 blocks from the school it is not considered our home school our home school (the elementary school I went to) is over 8 blocks away. Part of the agreement ofr her to go to this shcool is she must wear uniform everyday; no behavior problems and must b in school everyday. Prior to this she had missed 4 days with drs notes and they sent truancy to my house.

I hate these breathing treatments buts its either them or wind up back in the hosp.

Personally I have never heard of Viral Syndrome so here is the info straight from the hosp paper work:
A viral syndrome is an infection caused by the growth of a small virus germ inside the body. These germs are spread from person to person as a contagious disease. They are probably spread with coughs and sneezes and may even b transmitted by shaking hands.
Unfortunately this is no medication that can destroy these viruses. Antibiotics have no effect. Given time, however, the body's own immune system will destroy the germs and eliminate the infection. This may take just a few days or it may take as long as 2 to 3 wks.

The symptoms of a viral syndrome are often similar to those of a common cold. There is a run down feeling, muscle aches and a mild fever. In addiction, there may also be a sore throat, diarrhea, hoarseness, a cough, a poor appetite, a mild headache and watery eyes
A viral syndrome does not ordinarily produces any serious medical problems. There are, however, some risks:
1. People with a viral syndrome generally have a poor appetite and do not drink enough fluids. This can can result in dehydration, which makes the run down feeling even worse
2. a viral syndrome sometimes worsens the symptoms of other medical problems, such as bronchitis, asthma or emphysema
3 people with a viral syndrome occasionally develop other infections such as sinusitis or pneumonia

I'm sure the people from La's school mean well but sometimes people get sick and at home in bed is the best place to be. I had never heard of Viral Syndrome, Thanks for the information.

Exercising (Chair +)

Saturday, January 22, 2011

Well I joined a chair exercising team about a mth or so ago. I dont @ this time own or have used any chair exercising dvd. But I do chair marching I also have learned to adapt some exercises that I do.
Chair Marching who would have thought that it could b such a workout. I have only done 10,000 steps a cpl of times but i did it. I do about 1000 steps in 10 mins. So I try to do the marching while doing my sparking. I dont watch much TV but I plan on also to start marching while watching TV.

I m truly glad that i found this team. I m inspired by them all. It is a very active team that I m learning 2 keep up with.

I m also now using an exercise bike that I got @ a yard sale. It's called the edge & I use it minimum of 3x a week. It along with the chair marching is gonna b my main form of exercising while I learn to recope with my pain.

I have had a rough year. I had gotten to the point where I could cope with my pain I was walking a mile in about 20 mins (there is a track nearby). But then the pain has gotten to the point where I can barely walk unless with my cane. I m presently in physical therapy awaiting to start taking epidural steroids and there is a spinal fusion in my future. My physical therapist says that I have strong legs I just have a weak core. Some of the strengthen that I do in therapy I was already doing @ home thanks to Sparkpeople. I do have leg spasms but the main problems with my legs r due to my back issues.

Now to our sick updates. My daughter has La for the weekend & took her to the hospital. Her fevers were up to 104.8 & only went down for an hr or so after medication. She has a viral infection; well @ least she doesnt have the same version that I have. I have spent most of today in bed. I did get up and do 30 mins on the edge NOT ALL @ 1 TIME. I m trying to get as much rest as possible this weekend.

My upstairs water pipes froze over night & didnt unfreeze until almost dinner time. I now have a small electric heater in there so that it doesnt happen again.

Thank you for your comments on the team.
Chair marching is an idea Dawn came up with as a way of walking, without walking - and it can be very effective!!
I'm sorry that your personal life sounds very busy - but jkeep trying to make time for you as well - and the advantage of Chairt marching is that you can do it while sitting doing other things with your hands!!
