10 Tips. 10 Pounds Lighter.
We're at the time of year when our motivation wanes, and many convenient distractions keep us from eating healthy or exercising.

With a little awareness we can ignite our motivation again. This next series of blasts will help us regain our focus.

M - Mindset Take time to evaluate what's going on in your mind. What triggers your snack attacks? What distracts you from choosing healthy options? Write these things out in our free Online Journal. Learning what's going on inside can help inspire you to make better, healthier decisions.

O - Organize Before you go to the grocery store organize a meal plan and create a shopping list. Sticking to a plan and list can help you look forward to the next snack or meal and build some excitement in eating.

T - Time Make time for creative activities. Whether you take up dancing, run around with your kids, or even go out for a daily walk before work or after dinner. Whatever you come up with, try to make time in your busy schedule to do something fun and active.

I - Inform Experiment with activity and healthy recipes to learn what you like. Information is a powerful source to keep you going. What's more, sharing what you learn with others helps build your confidence and enthusiasm.

V - Variety Shake things up. Routines are helpful, but your body learns and adapts quickly. Try to keep it guessing with new activities and foods to make your body work for you.

A - Activity Keep moving, and find fun ways to say active. Grab a friend and join a walk/run club or hit the community courts for a pick-up game of basketball. Find the activities that make you smile, and rotate through them.

T - Trust No work is in vain when it comes to weight loss. Even when you're not seeing the results you expected, you have to believe your dedication is changing your life and body. Trust what you're doing will produce the results you envision.

I - Imagine What does success look like for you? What size pants or dress will you fit into when you reach your next goal? Keep a picture of success in front of you, and your work will get you there.

O - Observant Take notice of the changes going on with you. Are the healthy changes in your diet affecting how you feel about yourself? Are others taking notice? Do you look at food choices a critical eye? Observe the changes going on in you. They are real, and your family and friend will notice.

N - New We're not in this journey simply to revert to our old ways. The change in our lives is real and lasting. In a sense, we're creating a new life for ourselves. Let the new you influence your decisions and activity as you continue to live smarter and healthier.

great blog! i totally agree with O. i make a menu two weeks in advance and buy everything i can at the store before hand. I've already made my pre and post turkey day menus so i can keep my eating as healthy as possible those two weeks and not feel guilty for enjoying an extra helping of turkey and mashed potatoes.

How would you like to be in your early 20's and it say that you are in your late 20's that happened to my son. When he did it again after a week it gave him is age that he was. Can't remember what it told me but I was close to my age and I think that I my be at a younger age now. Just forgot how to do that to see what it is now. Glad that you married Peter Pan and you are Wendy. See you Wendy. emoticon

I have the wii fit plus also and I hate when it does my age, it always changes. I am 34 and the higest has been 58 and the lowest is 21, I don't get it. It does the same with the kids and husband but not so big though. Once it was my age. So I know how you feel, it lies!!!!!!LOL God Bless You

This blog made me laugh. One, how lucky to be married to Peter Pan. And two, the whole wii Fit age is a mystery to me. I'm 56 and generally it says I'm within a few years of that. Last night, it tells me I'm 25?!!?? That's a big jump from the usual 52-55. I realize I dropped a pound and a half this week, but pretty sure that's not impressive enough to make me half my age. Just like they say the lottery is "not to be used for investment purposes", the wii Fit is not to be counted on for accurate estimations. Enjoy and keep on working hard!

I've been a member of Spark People now for 1 year and 1 day. So I had to ask myself why am I still here.
I've come up with my 5 top reasons:

In the past I've lost weight and then gained it back. Since joining sparks I've been able to keep refocusing every time I back slide.

This site is filled with the most wonderfully supportive ppl. I LOVE MY SPARK FRIENDS! There is even a team that I love being part of cause I love the sharing of opinions about one of my favorite shows(The Biggest Loser); I do so enjoy the debates about the show. There is my state team that some day I plan to do an event with even though they are usually so far away from me and I don't drive. Then there is 2 teams related to another of my favorite shows (Ruby); these teams are all about support which I do need alot of. Cant forget my Mahogany Team which is the team that focuses the most on weight lost. I'm co-leader for he team that I started on Nov 2-8, 2008(its amazing how few of us still actually post on that team). Then there's my Lutheran Team which I m greatly Blessed to b part of. I've also joined and dropped several teams

I use all of the trackers and they help me to c where I'm at. The nutrition tracker has helped me to realize how bad I've always eating even when I thought other wise. The Fitness tracker keeps me motivated to get my workout minutes in. The weigh in helps me to c the difference of how far I've come. And then to c my streaks.

I've learned so much by just reading everything that I possibly can read on this site.

I LOVE BLOGGING whether mine or someone elses. I use my blogs as my journal and do so appreciate all the comments that others leave. I've also learned alot from reading other ppls blogs and seeing that I m not the only person going through these struggles

So now 1 year and 1 day later I m still here because Spark People is full of support no matter what the reason. All the reason I've come up with all equal one thing SUPPORT.

I share your sentiments. I love everything about Spark. If I have any complaint, it is that it is too much of a good thing. I love spending time on this site and could easily spend a lot more than I already do.

BTW your daughter (I assume that is who it is) is just adorable!!

up 4 pounds

Friday, November 06, 2009

I'm not gonna let it get to me BUT it does show me that I need to refocus. I m up 4 pounds.

Not to make excuses but I do know that part of it is fluid retention I really need to be taking the water pills. I spent the past week taking care of a sick child and not taking care of myself. I've done no walking this wk and I haven't really been eating right. That all changes right now. I m back on track with my eating and I plan to restart exercising today and Monday I will go back to curves.

I recently realized that I'm becoming an egg & I don't want to b - I've never been a carrot BUT I used 2 b a coffee bena n want 2 find my way back 2 being 1

A carrot, an egg, and a cup of coffee... You will never look at a cup of coffee the same way again. A young woman went to her mother and told her about her life and how things were so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up. She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed as one problem was solved, a new one arose. Her mother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots came to boil.
In the first she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs, and in the last she placed ground coffee beans. She let them sit and boil; without saying a word. In about twenty minutes she turned off the burners. She fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it in a bowl. Turning to her daughter, she asked, ' Tell me what you see.'Carrots, eggs, and coffee,' she replied. Her mother brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did and noted that they were soft. The mother then asked the daughter to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard boiled egg. Finally, the mother asked the daughter to sip the coffee. The daughter smiled as she tasted its rich aroma. The daughter then asked, 'What does it mean , mother?' Her mother explained that each of these objects had faced the same adversity: boiling water. Each reacted differently.
The carrot went in strong, hard, and unrelenting. However, after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became weak.
The egg had been fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior, but after sitting through the boiling water, its inside became hardened.
The ground coffee beans were unique, however. After they were in the boiling water, they had changed the water.
'Which are you?' she asked her daughter. 'When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean? Think of this: Which am I? Am I the carrot that seems strong, but with pain and adversity do I wilt and become soft and lose my strength? Am I the egg that starts with a malleable heart, but changes with the heat? Did I have a fluid spirit, but after a death, a breakup, a financial hardship or some other trial, have I become hardened and stiff ? Does my shell look the same, but on the inside am I bitter and tough with a stiff spirit and hardened heart? Or am I like the coffee bean? The bean actually changes the hot water, the very circumstance that brings the pain. When the water gets hot, it releases the fragrance and flavor. If you are like the bean, when things are at their worst, you get better and change the situation around you. When the hour is the darkest and trials are their greatest do you elevate yourself to another level? How do you handle adversity?

Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?

May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human and enough hope to make you happy The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their way. The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past; you can't go forward in life until you let go of your past failures and heartaches

I'm an egg but I'd really like to be the coffee. Hopefully this story will help remind me to strive for that.

I do have to comment on the end, though, because I disagree: "The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past". You can let go of the past without forgetting. If you forget then you are bound to make the same mistake. Forgive yourself, keep the positive lesson learned from the heartache, but don't forget it.
