It's Been Awhile - Thought I Would Catch You Up

Monday, April 16, 2012

This is directed to my dear friends & family on the Wildflower's Live Its Team:

I am forever grateful to each of you for all the love & support you have shown me. If it wasn't for Spark, I don't think I would ever have felt there was any hope for me to be released from my inner prison. I've seen my sisters meet, exceed & maintain their goal weight over & over again. I learned how to document every morsel of food that went into my mouth. I learned how to exercise (and enjoy it!).

I dropped out of the communication loop for a long time while I was weathering several personal storms. But, as always, the Lord has brought me through to the other side with few battle scars. My mother is now in a nursing home very close to me and thriving. She looks better than ever & that makes me so happy.

My husband recently had major back surgery & it was very successful. Although he has a long recovery ahead of him, we are happy that it is all downhill from here. (He gets his stitches out on Thursday.)

I have joined a local Weight Watchers group. I find documenting everything I eat is much easier for me on Weight Watchers. It's a simpler program & so much is already in the points system. I now have it on my computer & my iPhone. Every morsel that goes into my mouth gets tracked. (Spark trained me well.) I joined on Feb. 23rd of this year & have lost steadily every single week. My biggest loss was 5.2lbs and my smallest was .4lbs. Needless to say, I'm doing my happy dance every week.

I will check in with my favorite team from time to time. And I hope I am invited to any and ALL events that my team participates in. I just won't be tracking on Spark.

Please know I'm sending out HUGE Hugs & warm kisses to everyone. I love you ALL!!!!

In Him,

Hi Karine! Its so nice to see you again! I'm sorry to hear that you've been through a tough time, but praise be to God who helped you through it all. Thank you for the update. I fully understand the tracking thing, but I do hope you're not leaving spark completely. Just pop by and come hang out with us in the team a bit from time to time :-)

emoticon for you Karine. I too have had some very trying times lately. And I watched some weight creep back on. I had thought about joining Wt. watchers too, or something similar. I love my Wildflowerr's and usually try to check with what's going on with them but I don't spend as much time on the computer anymore. I try to get on and respond but can't spend a lot of time chatting anymore.
Keep up the good work and I look forward to hearing great things with your weight loss journey.

Another Rant: Chain Restaurants Are Lying!

Saturday, October 22, 2011

Ugh! I'm steaming!!!
emoticon emoticon emoticon

OK... Here's my latest rant. I've determined that there are no healthy restaurants between Washington, DC and Danville, VA.

Woke up at 5am. Had a nice healthy breakfast at 6:30am. Got on the road and I drove to Danville today. So far, so good, right?

The entire trip I could not find a healthy snack. Not one 7-Eleven along the route. (All I wanted was a cup of yogurt.) When I started feeling dizzy, I bit the bullet, pulled into one those cheezy Quickie Gas Station/Redneck Bait shops. I must have read every single little snack bag (aka garbage) & finally settled on 2 tiny bags of salty junk (popcorn & cheese puffs). Not too much damage for a snack.

Well, then I finally get to Danville around 1:30pm. I'm starving. I go to Ruby Tuesday. I decide "against" the salad bar thinking that a healthy choice meal would be more filling and probably healthier.

I look at the menu and see a lovely Petite Sirloin with roasted spaghetti squash& grilled zucchini. It's part of their "Fit & Trim" menu and is listed as 537 calories.

I get back to the hotel tonight and decide to enter the real facts from the Ruby Tuesday Nutrition info on their Website. Look what I really had for lunch:

706 Calories (the steak alone was 611 calories)
41 Carbs
41 Fat
45 Protein (I guess this is the upside???)

So there you have it. Another chain restaurant flat out lying on their printed menu! How do these guys get away with this?

Thanks for reading my rant. Let me know if you are experiencing the same.

I'm trying to flush out all the sodium with gallons of water.

It's the restaurants and lack of physical movement, topped with the packaged processed foods that is killing middle aged Americans, and making Obese children in this country! You just keep sharing!
America NEEDS to KNOW!

emoticonFYI Karine, when you reply here to a Sparkers post, they do not receive a notification.

Thanks for the info. I guess I'm just naive... I take people (restaurants)at their word. What is strange is how on the news and in papers we constantly read about America being the heaviest country. That people have to eat better but then they give us really no option when you sit down at a restaurant. Have you contacted Ruby Tuesday via email to ask them why they're lying? If they give no response, call a local news team. I'm sure that restaurant is not the only one doing it. And I'm sure I'm not the only one that falls for the lies of the "Fit & Trim" menu.

Rant on, Girlfriend! The truth must be told!!!

We eat out as little as possible. We don't travel a lot though without a plan because there is no where to go here. If an emergency came up, it would be a plane ride(just as bad calorie wise), not a drive. It is amazing that restaurants can get away with that. Not enough people really care yet.

All the more reason to enter all food into my food tracker. I just got an iPad2. Yippee! I can now carry it with me everywhere I go. Now these guys can't get me anymore. I can see what's in their food BEFORE I order anything.

I may have a new mission. Consumer REVENGE! I'm going to let everyone I know about these evil restaurants.

Heee! Heee! Heee!

I have long determined that the chain restaurants like Ruby Tuesday and Chili's really have a death wish for their customers. Some of their menu items have enough sodium to cover 3 or 4 days worth of sodium limit too! Not to mention the fat and calorie content of some of their items.

MAESTRAKARINE 10/22/2011 10:53PM

Yeah. I know I should have healthy snacks. Usually I do have some things with me. But this trip was an emergency. I didn't have any time to pack. Thanks for the reminder. I guess I forgot how bad it is out there.

I'm still licking my wounds. Not sure if you read my other rant (Eat This - Not That). I guess I'm so angry that these restaurants have the gall to lie on their menus. How can they quote one calorie count & provide you with another? I think that's what has me so upset.

Oh well, que sera sera. . .

Hope you feel better soon. Stocking the car with healthy snacks and a cooler with bottled water, fresh fruits, and veggies would be the way to travel; you can't count on finding healthy stuff in a pinch. I found out the hard way with the "healthy" salad at Applebee's; you're not alone. It was loaded with junk.
Here's to tomorrow ...

Hey girly - great goals! At the bottom of your tracker, right above your Totals/Daily Goal/Remaining Today green and coral box, you can click to add extra meals. I added a snack and a "stupid snack" catergory (yes, it literally says that). Hope this helps. Have a great day!

I'm so flattered that I inspired you. Maybe you can show me how to load it into Spark. I'm gonna work on that tomorrow. Hopefully it won't take as long as planning my daily meals did.

Stay tuned for more tomorrow. In the meantime, I've just got to get some emoticon

Hello Karine! Thanks for the motivation and information. I like the idea of a big dinner and when I do it it works for me. It's too many "rules" that come in my head when it comes to eating and I have to do what works for me. I rather eat a big meal(save calories for later) than eat and eat because I'm hungry. Thanks so much and I know what to do. I have YOGURT! That makes me happy. I have good healthy snacks if needed and a plan. It's going to work.

I'm doing the reading through the Bible which I love because the Bible is my LIFE! So much Wisdom! I've decided to keep that kitchen clean and off limits after dinner. I'll keep my water at my bedside. I know I can do it. I have not joined the other challenge because of the time to log the information and do certain things on it...if that makes sense. I don't have Internet connection at home and have to use the library during the open hours. But I know I do need to do some other challenge besides reading through the Bible. I've been long but thanks so much and I'm adding you as a friend.
You have done a great job!

I forgot to update the daily goals I set for myself in my blog. I keep a notebook with all this stuff written down. I was so obsessed with meeting both the protein AND fiber challenges, that I forgot to update this blog. Not that anyone was really missing it. Boring, I know. But somehow, just putting it out there makes me feel accountable to my Spark partners.

A Message to My Team Leaders

Wednesday, January 12, 2011

OK Wildflowerr's Live Its Leaders. . .

It's all YOUR fault! I can't believe you've turned me into this maniacle person. Let me tell you all the things you are to blame for in my life (as of Jan 3, 2011). . .

1. It's YOUR fault that I'm entering everything I eat into Spark
2. It's YOUR fault that I'm intimately aquainted with Leslie Sansone
3. It's YOUR fault that I'm drinking gallons of water daily
4. It's YOUR fault that I'm peeing gallons of water daily (see #3)
5. It's YOUR fault that I'm sleeping long hours (see #2)
6. It's YOUR fault that I'm setting daily, weekly & monthly goals
7. It's YOUR fault that I'm obsessed with completing my goals (see #6)
8. It's YOUR fault that I'm feeling more energized
9. It's YOUR fault that I'm cleaning out my clutter (see #7)
10. It's YOUR fault that I'm reading the entire bible (cover to cover)
11. It's YOUR fault that I'm talking to God more and more each day
12. It's YOUR fault that I'm sure He's listening to me with a smile on His face.
