I'm baaaack.....

Sunday, February 03, 2013

This has been a good weekend!

Friday I planned to go to water aerobics, but when I got there it was closed so I went to the gym instead!

Yesterday I went to the gym again, and worked out a little longer than the previous day. Forgot what sweat felt like ;)

Sunday in Pictures:

Rode my bike to Starbucks -

Baked 4 regular size loaves and 8 baby loaves of my new Dutch Oven Bread recipe -

Had my husband take a semi-before-starting- fresh-for-2013-pic, not thrilled at all with it, but I need to see some progress in the coming months so I figure I'll do this outfit at the beginning of every month -

And then I baked a turkey, just because -

I started my crafty facebook page, but then realized there were about 10 pages with the same name. So my friend and I are going to work on it a bit more before we publish it, plus I have lots more pictures I need to take and post for it.

Oh and I lost 3 lbs this week!

Hope everyone has a great week!

First Blog of 2013

Saturday, February 02, 2013

Well itís a little sad that I havenít written a blog since June of 2012! But Iím sure some of you have figured out Iím not much of a blogger.

2013 is getting off to an okay start. 2012 was the Year of the Backslide. I started this journey in 2009 at 253 lbs, managed to get myself to 210 by June of 2011, and now Iím back at 238 as of this morning. So yeah 2012 was painful. But it was also my year of my biggest fitness accomplishments of my life! Did a half marathon in May and then participated in Portland to Coast in August. Kind of got taken out with a nasty case of Plantar Fasciitis and allowed it to sideline me from August to January. Basically I only did Yoga during those months.

But those days are in the past and its time to get back on track. In January I lost 4 lbs. Managed to track all my food about 27 out of 31 days. Got in 741 minutes of exercise, which is dramatically better than the previous 5 months. And last night I tried to go to water aerobics, but got to the local pool and it was closed for a swim meet. So I had about 2 seconds where I considered just coming home, eating dinner, and vegging for the rest of the night. Instead I turned the car around, came home, changed my clothes, and drove to the gym and worked out. This alone is a huge mental improvement, so I think I may be back on track. I plan to kick this plantar fasciitis in the butt!

Iím branching out in other ways in my life as well this year. Iím going to start a page on Facebook to promote all the great crafts that myself, my friends and family make. Iíve learned to make soap, body scrub, and dutch oven bread in the past few months and I have lots of talented friends, so this should be fun. Iím doing a Farmerís Market all summer as well. My familyís big trip this summer is to drive from Oregon to Alaska. We decided going to a location that wasnít blazing hot during late June would be a nice change of pace from our last two trips, Yosemite and Yellowstone. 2013 is going to be a vast improvement over 2012!

Well itís the weekend, itís sunny and I have lots of chores to do! Hope you all have a great weekend.

Glad you are back on track and moving forward. I have been there - done that - so many times. One thing to keep in mind is that while you gained back SOME of the poiunds you lost, you did not gain them all AND to top the success of THAT, you did NOT quit, AND the pounnds you put back on didn't get the chance to bring MORE friends along with them when they returned.

Improvise and Overcome

Sunday, June 10, 2012

So as I mentioned in my last blog, I'm having some pretty severe Plantar Fasciatis issues. And so really all I've been doing since the half marathon is Yoga twice a week. Well that has led to feeling like a real slug. When I'm used to working out 5 days a week and then all of a sudden I'm down to 2. Yeah not the way to go.

So this morning as every morning I needed to make my daily pilgrimage to Starbucks. Usually it's by car since I go on my way to work (to survive the 30 mile commute). emoticon

But since it's the weekend... I rode my daughter's bike. Whew that was quite the workout. First it's a cruiser with no gears, secondly other than a stationary bike in the gym it's the first bike ride I've done in probably 8+ years. But it was nice to get out, enjoy the sunshine, feel the breeze and get some exercise!

I just gotta keep switching things up until my foot heals instead of sitting around on my butt. These pounds aren't gonna just fall off by themselves.

Oh man, a bike ride! What a great way to stay active and ease up on your foot! Big kudos for you for sticking with it and not just caving into the lazy because of your pain. Woo hoo!

Go to a podiarist and get some custom made inserts for your shoes, and if that does not help a lot, have the dr give you shots in the feet. I had the same issue, and between the shots and the inserts, my feet are pain free. Have a great day and I hope your feet start feeling better.

My Own Worst Enemy

Tuesday, June 05, 2012

It never ceases to amaze me how I view myself vs how others view me.

Case in point:

I haven't blogged about my half marathon because quite honestly I was ashamed. I was so looking forward to this event. I had done pretty well with training. I had talked my friends into signing up. It was going to be great. Well about a month or so before the half my plantar fasciatis kicked in again. But it didn't hurt on the walks only afterwards. I kept thinking it would hold off. Well it didn't.

On the day of the race I woke up and my foot was pretty tight. I did some stretching and just kept thinking it's only got to hold out one more day. Well it didn't agree. Miles 1-5 were great, Miles 5-9 were uncomfortable, Miles 9-13.1 were extremely painful. If a cab had driven by I probably would have asked for a ride... well probably not, but close. It sucked! So the bottom line is I did finish, I was slow, but I finished within the timeframe allowed, with 10 minutes to spare. I only finished 18 minutes after my friends whom I had walked with until mile 9. So why have I been looking at this as a failure? Everyone I talk to compliments me for having completed it at all.

Tonight I went into a Good Feet store to talk to them about orthotics just on a whim, had never even heard of the store. But I'm so tired of being in pain. Ever since the walk the pain has basically been a 24 hour event. So the salespeople and i were talking and the half came up and the salesman was like and you had PF during? And you finished? Wow you are a rockstar!

Why can't I feel that way??? Well I don't know how saying any of this is going to do that. I just wanted to put it down so that maybe I can start seeing myself how others do. I know how ridiculous it is to not realize I did a freaking Half Marathon. ME, who on November 19th, 2009 was a 1.5 pack a day smoker who weighed 253 lbs and who NEVER exercised, walked a HALF MARATHON.

I'm a damn rock star.

I think it's naturally inherent that we down play our achievements to not sound too braggart or boastful. After I finished my marathon I just kept saying "anyone can do this or I'm nothing special" I am still more proud of my half this past fall in Dayton. I had to walk the last 5+ miles due to lack of training. Cramping was so bad, but I kept pushing on to finish.

Those are the moments that define greatness!

Rock on!

You ARE a damn ROCKSTAR! You did a freaking half marathon - you FINISHED a freaking half marathon, like you said - coming from the bottom up and with all of the physical and mental challenges that entails. You know how many people go through life and doubt themselves so much they never even TRY a 5k, let alone a half freaking marathon?! You DO rock, so be proud of yourself, pretty please!!!!!

1/2 Marathon Next Weekend

Monday, May 07, 2012

So my friend and I did our last long walk before our half marathon next weekend yesterday and finished 9 miles, which was 1 mile more than we planned on. It was way better physically then the week before when I did 10 miles by myself. I think having other people around will make next weekend go smoother, but I have to admit I'm still terrified. I did not train as religiously as I should have. But as a few people keep telling me if I can do 10 I can do 13. So we'll just wait and see. Thankfully I have 2 yoga classes this week, 2 visits to the chiropractor, and hopefully 3-4 short 2-3 milers this week.

Have a great week everyone.
