AN IRISH FRIENDSHIP WISH

Friday, March 15, 2013

MAY THERE ALWAYS BE WORK FOR YOUR HANDS TO DO;
MAY YOUR PURSE ALWAYS HOLD A COIN OR TWO;
MAY THE SUN ALWAYS SHINE ON YOUR WINDOW PANE;
MAY A RAINBOW BE CERTAIN TO FOLLOW EACH RAIN;
MAY THE HAND OF A FRIEND ALWAYS BE NEAR YOU;
MAY GOD FILL YOUR HEART WITH GLADNESS TO CHEER YOU; AND
MAY YOU BE IN HEAVEN A HALF HOUR BEFORE THE DEVIL KNOWS YOUR'RE DEAD. emoticon emoticon

IS FIBROMYALGIA A 'MARKETING' CONDITION?

Monday, February 16, 2009

Drug firms Pfizer and Eli Lilly are promoting drugs to treat fibromyalgia, an ailment characterized by pain, fatigue and depression.
But some doctors say the marketing buzz in drowning out important questions about the condition, including:
WHAT'S THE CAUSE? There is still no agreement on what causes fibromyalgia, though soem scientists point to abnormalities in the nervous system.
WHERE'S THE TEST? Unlike other pain conditions, such as arthritis, there is no medical test for fibromyalgia. Instead, doctors make a diagnosis by examining patiens and listening to descriptions of symptoms.
WHAT'S UNIQUE? A quarter of patients diagnosed also fit the criteria of other disorders, raising questions about whether fibromyalgia is a unique disease.
MIND OVER MATTER? Patients diagnosed with fibromyalgia are more likely to have a history of mental illness, be overweight and economically disadvantaged. Some doctors say their sufferings may stem from difficult circumstances rather than disease.
The above was an article in my local newspaper written by the Associated Press. I have to tell you I do not agree with with a lot what they are saying perhaps overweight, but history of mental illness forget it. I have had osteoarthritis for a lot of years then when I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis and given prednisone to get it under control is when I got fibromyalgia, diabetes and a few more other problems. For a few years I have been on an anti-depressent because they said it was prescribed to conteract the pain. Probably because I cannot take anti-inflamatory drugs.
I would be interested to hear my Fibro Friends feed back on this article.

    Last year I went to the Dr. Complaining of muscle, joint pain and fatigue. He sent me off to a specialist who looked for the 'pressure points' that you find in all the literature. She spent maybe 5 minutes with me and was quite prepared to diagnose me with fibromyalgia. It was so frustrating. Well I started at the gym with a trainer. It was painful at the start but the stronger I became, the less pain I had until 9 months later I had no pain at all. I haven't been to the gym in 7 months and I am gradually getting the pains and aches back. Once I am finished my treatments I know where I am going and it isn't back to the doctor!

    I definitely agree that there are "marketing" conditions, and this has certainly taken on the attributes of one. Maybe there is some underlying cause that these sufferers have in common, but it seems not to have been clearly defined as yet. How can they successfully treat something that they don't understand? Our pharmaceutical companies do seem to always be riding the crest of every wave to make those bucks! I'd suggest that stress might have a lot to do with it, and learning relaxation techniques, eating right, sleeping better, and getting moving might be the best medicine.

    I don't know about how I feel about where it comes from but like everything else out there it seems like they find a new word and start diagnosing EVERYONE with any pain as fibromyalgia! And the drug companies are constantly barraging airwaves with advertisements that put ideas in people's minds. I hate the thought of anyone being in such horrible pain all the time...but find out what other health issue could be causing it as well!

THE GAL IN THE GLASS

Thursday, February 05, 2009

emoticonWhen you get what you want in your struggle for self, and the world makes you queen for a day, just go to a mirror and look at yourself, and see what that Gal has to say: for it isn't your husband or family or friend - whose jusdgement upon you must pass. The gal whose verdict counts most in yur life is the one staring back from the glass.
Some people may think you a straight shooting chum and call you a person of place, but the Gal in the glass says you're only a bum if you can't look her straight in the face.
She's the one to please - never mind all the rest, for she's with you clear up to the end. Any you've passed your most dangerous, difficult test, if the Gal in the glass is YOUR FRIEND.
You can fool the whole world down the pathway of years, and get pats on your back as you pass, but your final reward - will be heartaches and tears, if you've cheated THE GAL in the GLASS.......

COMPLIMENT YOURSELF TOO!!!

Saturday, January 31, 2009

emoticonYou notice when other people do something well.
But you do things well, too! You notice when other people go the extra mile. But you go that extra mile, too!
You notice when other people look expecially nice. But you shine, too!
There's so much that's special about you, and it's time you noticed,
Other people do!

Enjoy a Moment for You.
