Race within a Race - Week 1 Virtual Appalachian Trail Hike

Sunday, April 13, 2014

This week marks the first week of our Virtual Appalachian Trail Hike. We've got three teams that are making the trek along the Appalachian Trail and they are

The Awesome A's - led by Alie/GEMLADYONE

The Shooting Star's - led by Sheryl/SHERYLP461

And the Walkers, Runner, Joggers and Gadgeters - led by me

All the team started out at Springer's Mountain.

Springer Mountain is a small part of the Appalachian Mountain chain extending from Cape Gaspe, Canada to Alabama, US. It is most well know as the southern terminus of the world famous Appalachian Trail. Indeed the AT makes this otherwise nondescript mountain a world destination.

The Awesome A's hiked 652 miles to Baily Gap Shelter

The Shooting Stars hiked 652.60 miles to Bailey's Gap Shelter also.

The Walkers, Runner, Joggers and Gadgeteers (WRJ&G) hiked 793.89 miles to Pedlar Lake Road

Due to the variances in team sizes, the weekly team results have been calculated to ensure equal team sizes.

The Awesome A's averaged 22.63 miles per member ; their top three hikers were
ELLFIN3 (59 miles) and GWINNERI (57 miles) hiked to Tray Mountain Shelter, Georgia

GEMLADYONE(56 miles) hiked to Tray Gap, Tray Mt Road

The Shooting Stars averaged 29.66 miles per member; their top three hikers were

SHERYLPS461 (90 miles) hiked to Beech Gap, North Carolina

KATHYJO56 (56 miles) is hanging out with GEMLADYONE at Tray Gap, Tray Mt Road

SPARKLED146 (54 miles) hiked to Indian Grave Gap, Georgia

The WRJ&G averaged 23.63 mils per member; their top three hikers were:

WALLAHALLA (124.79 miles) hiked to Cooper Ridge Bald Lookout, North Carolina

MADAMES (65 miles) hiked to Deep Gap Shelter, Georgia

-AMBERBERRY- (63.30) hiked to Kelly Knob, Georgia

You did an awesome job on the photos! I have hiked small portions of the trail through north GA and NC and it is a tough walk in lots of places.

April Rise and Shine Challenge - Part II Day 1

Friday, April 11, 2014

I love April..it's got 30 days in it which makes it absolutely perfect for completing the April Rise and Shine Challenge 3 times.

This challenge is pretty easy, it's a 10-day challenge to help motivate you to do something healthy to start your day. For the first 10 days in April you were supposed to do one of the following things:

1) Take time to eat a healthy breakfast in the morning every day

Or

2) Exercise first thing in the morning every day

Or

3) Both of the above!

I finished Day 10 yesterday and realized that I had exercised 5 days, had breakfast 4 days and did both 1 day. For the next 10 days in April I'm going to work on being more consistent with exercising 1st thing.

So I'm good for Part II Day 1 - emoticon
3) Both of the above - emoticon Rowed 3500+ meters and am working on finished a great veggie omelet. Great start to the day!

emoticon I have to give a big 'ole shout out to Stephanie/EMTCHICK109, She sparked me this morning when I really didn't want to do much other than play on the computer. www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_jo

Thanks Steph - I do feel better!

Great! I (nearly) always do 15 minutes of yoga in the mormings and find it helps me immensely to feel ready for the day. Breakfast is also an important "never skip" meal for me.

Keep going and you'll soon find that you don't need to work to fit them in!

Day 10 - Rise and Shine Challenge - Get Ready for Part II

Thursday, April 10, 2014

I've got Day 10 of the April Rise and Shine Challenge under my belt. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I've been writing for the last 9 days that the challenge is pretty easy and it is, which is a little deceptive. Just like any other challenge, it takes some effort to complete. I'm not very good with consistency so I'm thrilled to say that I completed this. And I'm going to do it again, mostly because these are good habits to have and also because I'm not where I want to be.

I looked back at the last 10 days and 5 days I exercised, 4 days I ate breakfast (let's face it, that wasn't that much of a stretch, I try to eat breakfast regularly) and one day I exercised and ate breakfast. So you can see, I have room for improvement in consistently exercising first thing.

When I started the challenge I wanted to row, either walk the dog or on the treadmill and eat breakfast. Another thing I have a tendency to do is try to do too much too fast and then I just fizzle out. So for the next 10 days I'm going to work on rowing first thing when I get up and increasing my time and eating a good breakfast. The dog will still get walked, it might just be later in the day.

If you're reading about my little journey for the first time or you've been reading over the last 9 days thank you so much.

I'd love to have some more company...Part II starts tomorrow. Here's the blog so you can see what you'll need to do

    Congratulations, Lynn.

I'm in for Part II. The breakfast part is a, excuse the pun, emoticon . I rarely miss a healthy breakfast. Like you, the challenge is in the morning exercise. Three times a week hasn't been too difficult, but every day will be a huge challenge. Knowing there are others will be a good motivator. Don't want to let my team mates down.

I consider any day I get my exercise in a good day. Sometimes life gets in the way and I can't do it first thing but as long as I do it is what matters.

As for breakfast - I never miss a meal!

Part 2 - I'm with you!

Day 9 - Rise and Shine Challenge - Almost Over

Wednesday, April 09, 2014

I've got Day 9 of the April Rise and Shine Challenge under my belt. emoticon

This challenge is pretty easy, it's a 10-day challenge to help motivate you to do something healthy to start your day. For the first 10 days in April, do one of the following things:

1) Take time to eat a healthy breakfast in the morning every day
Or
2) Exercise first thing in the morning every day
Or
3) Both of the above!

So I'm good for Day 9 -
#1) I had a great rowing workout this morning. I can tell I'm getting much better with the intervals. More meters covered in less time.

So there's only 1 more days to go in this little challenge, it will be over tomorrow. I'm going to repeat it. April is the perfect month to complete this challenge three times and set some good habits. If you didn't join the challenge for April 1-10 you're in luck you could do the challenge April 11-20 or April 21-30.

C'mon, join the fun for a repeat or three peat...you know you want to! emoticon Here's the blog so you can see what you'll need to do
