This picture is the contents of a basket picked from my greenhouse and garden. What better incentive to a healthy diet? Baruch HaShem.

First Learn to Walk

Sunday, November 18, 2012

It probably sounds very strange, but one of the really wonderful fitness achievements of the last 2 years has been learning to walk.
I am 59, and had not had an accident or stroke. I just read a Sparkpeople guide and a book by Lucy Knight, and realised that I did not know how to walk properly. At first I could not do it, but there was a day when I suddenly did a few steps correctly and found my whole body felt different.
It took a while before I corrected my walk permanently, but since I have learned I can do far more because the arthritic pain in my hips is greatly reduced and everything works better.
The change was demonstrated months later when I decided to wear heels, and discovered I couldn't walk in them because I no longer knew how to do it!
I am sure there are many people who would benefit from knowing this, so I hope others will give it a try. emoticon emoticon emoticon

How to find time you didn't know you had.

Tuesday, November 13, 2012

Being inclined to worrying, I often waste time when I have an appointment or deadline...even when I am just waiting for someone to come to the house.
As I get older, I am learning to overcome this, but I have also found a good way to help use time I have. When I do a job, or even some fitness activity, I try to take note of the time it takes.
Today I confirmed that if I leave the house at 7.50am I can get to the swimming pool and be in the water by 8.30 (if I leave later, I will be delayed 15minutes by the traffic jams). I know I can drive to a favourite walk spot, do the walk and get home in 1 1/2 hours.
Yesterday, I noted that I can find and measure the ingredients for focaccia and get them in the breadmaker to mix and prove in 5 mins....looking at that, I can see that I could start the focaccia, go for my walk, and be back in time to shape and finish the bread.
Making notes of these things would help too.

Wasting time?

Wednesday, November 07, 2012

I sometimes waste time on the computer....even Sparkpeople, when I get caught up in things I don't need to do....and designing stuff just because I can.

I do the SAME thing! I have a procrastination problem that I struggle with everyday LOL I I need to be a little more proactive and maybe not go on my computer AT ALL for once. umm... looks like I need to think of a plan for this one.

A Joyful Sign of Winter

Wednesday, August 22, 2012

I took this photo' from my bedroom window this morning.

It makes me feel slightly sad, because these first flowers at the top of the shrub are a sure sign that Winter is on the way.

The joy comes in knowing that these very fragrant flowers will now keep coming, and will be there all through the winter. The leaves will fall, leaving the flowers to look even more beautiful, and they will remain until other flowers start emerging in the Spring.
It feels a bit like the garden lighting a candle as evening comes.

Blessed are you, Oh Lord our God, who makes everything beautiful in its time.
