I started this challenge May 1st on another forum. Not to many there so I am posting it here to share with you my ups and downs, my good moments and my not so good moments. It has been hard, as I have never walked this much consistently in my life. And now, I love it. But have also learned to rest when necessary, as I sometimes push it even when my knees say 'no'.
My month of May went as follows:
Beginning of Day ~
MAY 1 ~ 35 minute brisk walk.
MAY 2 ~ 35 minute walk. ~30 min. walk
MAY 3 ~ Ditto.
May 4 ~ 15 min. ~ 15 min.
May 5 ~ 15 min. (so far)....th-th-th-that's all folks
May 6 ~ 35 min. brisk walk
May 7 ~ 30 min.***
May 8 ~ 30 min. plus 15 this morning.
May 9 ~ got 2 hours of reasonable hard gardening
so far today. Going to try to get my walk in
later this evening.
May 10 ~ Didn't get that walk in. Overdid it in the
garden yesterday. But I got a good one at the track with my grandson after dinner tonight.
May 11 ~ 60 minute walk
May 12 ~ nada
May 13 ~ 45 min. brisk walk
May 14 ~ (my DD2's 50th birthday.) Going to celebrate by going for a walk. Now I'm aiming to see her celebrate her 65th. Now is 9:30 pm, PDT and I did my walk for today. Another 35 grueling minutes!!!
May 15 ~ took day off, sore hips.
May 16 ~ 35 min. brisk walk
May 17 ~ sidelined with vertigo.
May 18 ~ 75 min. walk, plus 1 hour gardening.
May 19 ~ all this walking has caused me to have some pain in my hip joints. So am taking a few days off.
~ ~ ~ Have lost 10 lbs since I signed up a month ago!!!!
May 20 ~Will be visiting DD3 over on the Gulf Islands for the weekend. Hope to get some walking done over there.
May 21 ~ travelled to DD3's. long dy...no walk.
May 22 ~ 7:30 AM - 20 min brisk walk.
May 23 ~ 40 min. walk
May 24 ~ AM 20 min. walk
May 25 ~ 20 min. walk.....worked in the garden for about 2 hours.
May 26 ~ 35 min. brisk walk.
May 27 ~ 35 min. walk this morning, 60 min. hike this evening.
May 28 ~ no walk today, just gardening.
May 29 ~ 5 hours of gardening and I think I walked at least a mile in my yard today. Boy am I pooped!
THEN.....my DD2 and GS2 and 3 took me to the track with them and I did another 1.25 miles after dinner.
May 30 ~ Believe me I AM tired today. No walk.
Tomorrow is the last day of May.... I WILL GET A GOOD WALK IN FOR SURE!!!
MAY ~ 31 ~ 2009 I DID IT!!!..My DD2 and I went for a brisk 35 min. walk about 8:00 am and just finished an hour in the garden. This has been a hard month, and I loved it!!! I feel so damn good about myself today, even tho' I have had a few down days this past week. To top it off.......I LOST ANOTHER 2 POUNDS which I wasn't expecting to. Boy, life is great at this moment. I am so glad I can share this wonderful feeling with others who understand.
***this was a challenge to myself I finally attempted this morning. There is a rather steep hill that goes down my street toward town. I usually don't walk this route. But this morning I did. I went down and back uphill in 30 min. and I wasn't as tired as I thought I would be. So, this proves to me that regular walking is building up my stamina.
