New Beginnings

Wednesday, April 17, 2013

I finally feel like I am on the right track. My year was up at planet fitness so I checked out a few other centers and joined one that is 3 blocks from my house so I can walk there. It's anytime fitness, they give you a keybob and are open 24 hours a day. My granddaughter Alexis, who is 13 goes with me. I also have paid for a trainer for the next 3 months and it is the best decision I ever made. I have only been going for 3 weeks and I am already so much stronger. She helps me with my nutrition too. I know I have a very long way to go with needing to lose over 100 pounds but I will get there. I am still getting use to the bodymedia thing, not really sure how to get my workouts on it so if anyone knows please let me know. Have a blessed day!

Completely agree. I have never been a fitness buff, but after realizing that my overall strength and balance were really screwed up, I went to a trainer and have realized a significant increase in strength and balance. Not there yet, but will do it.

I now walk with a lot more confidence but my goal is to be able to walk with authority.

Baby steps!

Monday, February 25, 2013

I dropped Alexis off at school and went to Planet Fitness. I did the treadmill for 30 minutes and then the bike for 30 minutes, I work on my arms and my legs on a few of the other machines, don't know their names and then it was time to go. I have tracked my food so far today, I blew it this morning having a breakfast Panini and a large English toffee at tim hortons but I will be good the rest of the day. For lunch I had a large spinach salad with tomatoes. Over the weekend I ordered the bodymedia it should be here some time this week. I am so excited. I have a fitbit but the body media covers more stuff. Do any of you have one? How do you like it? Well, I am going to take one of the dogs for a walk. Have a great day!

I wish I had one, but not sure I wan't to put out any money on anything like that because it may tell me I am not doing as well as I think I am. I know, that sounds stupid. But I enjoy thinking I am a real life fitness guru, versus that overweight chick in the shop window. (BTW, I love your page that says that you see yourself that way... mee too! I am convinced all full-length mirrors should be banned!)

I am happy that you are working your program. I swear the first 7 weeks on here I lost like 2 pounds, and then it was a 7-pound drop in one week. I need another one of those here soon. I have been hanging at the same weight for 2 months, and I know it's probably the cocoa I put in my coffee in the morning, but I refuse to give up everything I love! It's just not my style... oh, and I should probably quit drinking every day as well, but I am coming out of the yucky part of my recent loss, so as soon as this bottle is done, so am I.

Thank you for adding me as a friend. And get your butt on here and BLOG about it! That's the only way we can help!

Hugs, Ang

A Good Day..I am sticking to my plan.

Wednesday, February 13, 2013

I stopped at the fruit market after I dropped off my granddaughter and son and went a little crazy. I used to go to the fruit market which is a ways from my house but it is on my way back from dropping my son off. I bought some chicken burgers, lots of fresh veggies and fruit. I did my leslie sansone 1 mile walking dvd when I got home. It's a start..baby steps. My bad knee was burning a little when I got done so I iced it. I have been checking out anti inflammation food plans, even found a couple of spark teams. I think this would help me a lot since I have so much joint inflammation. I really appreciate everyone visiting my blog and will start visiting more very soon. Have a wonderful day!!!!!

One thing that I love about Spark People is the variety of teams. I hope you will find an active team to visit regarding your inflamation issues. I am sure there is at least one team that will provide ideas and information for dealing with this problem. I thought about this when my mom was hospitalized for pancreatitis. I read a lot about inflamation and diet here on her behalf and talked to her about what she was eating and what to do to keep from getting another attack. Good luck! I love Leslie Sansone!

I am making a plan!!!

Tuesday, February 12, 2013

I want to thank all of you that sent such encouraging messages..it really meant the world to me. I go to Planet Fitness on Tuesday to have them show me the list of class times where they will show you how to do certain things. My sparkpeople dvd's came today in the mail and I dug out my leslie sansone walking dvd's so if I don't feel like leaving the house I have no excuse to not getting my butt off the couch. I also called today and switched to a different doctor, she is a woman in family medicine. I can't get into seeing her until March 28 but I have already made a list of things I want to discuss with her. I started going thru my pantry and getting it organized so I can find stuff. Also looking at different web sites to figure out what should be in the pantry all the time to put a meal together instead of eating fast food when I don't feel like cooking. I did some shopping this weekend and found a bike I am thinking about getting for this spring, I used to go biking a lot and with us raising our soon to be 13 granddaughter we could go biking together. I know it felt good to get out of the house for a bit. I take my 82 year old mother shopping once a week since she got rid of her car. She uses a rolling walker and walks very slow. I am afraid of ending up like her. I was always so independant before I retired. Well..enough of this I am going to put a dvd in and see what I can do. Thank you again so much!!!!!

You've touched on all the key points toward success:
exercise
food choices
health team support
planning and goal setting
emotional committment

Awsome!!!

I started exploring outside exercise on a bike, too. My DH was so patient with me in the begining, when I could only ride a flat 3 mile loop. We kept at it and now I really enjoy our weekly bike rides. Life is for living, not sitting on the couch being afraid (like I used to be). Have fun with your DVD.

Depression

Saturday, February 09, 2013

My depression has reared his ugly head again. I am on 2 different meds and I am thinking it is time to go and see the doctor. I would like to change doctors, I have seen this one for almost 30 years and he isn't one to call you out on things. I would like to go to a doctor who puts you on the spot. It's funny because when we first started with Hap the doctor I was given was like the one I think I need now. I changed because he told me I was overweight and needed to lose weight. I have a lot of medical issues..high blood pressure for over 30 years, overweight and now very obese for over 30 years, osteoarthritis, osteoporisis, depression for over 4 years, MS diagnosed 15 years ago, type 2 diabetes diagnosed 3 years ago, I have had my shoulder and knee replaced because of severe arthritis and need to have the other knee done. I stay in my house and sit most of the day, even though I pay for planet fitness every month. I eat even when I am not hungry. I am just a mess. I have been married for over 37 years but we should of divorced years ago, many years ago. We are 2 people living in one house. My hubby always makes fun of my weight telling me he knows I weigh over 300 pounds. I weigh 233. He drank up until right before he retried which is only 10 years ago and just gets nastier as days go by. He only quit drinking because his doctor told him he would never see social security or his pension if he kept drinking, he has type 2 diabetes too. I have no money of my own and I am just too old to even think about a divorce but I need to get better for me. I am sorry for going on and on about me.

Luann, I am so sorry you are having so many problems. I have a sister who suffers great depression, many health issues and a bad marriage so I understand what you are going thru. I would also agree that you need to change docs and mabe get your meds changed. Contacting your fitness center and getting a personal trainer is also a great idea. I know that getting out of your house, even just a little while will be a great help; but I also know that it is sometimes impossible.

The fact that you finally posted indicates that you WANT to do something to change things now.

Take care of yourself and I will be praying too.....God is your source of strength. My sister just started with a Christian counselor and it is helping her alot. This is the best she has been in several years. emoticon

I am so sorry to read about the many issues you are facing right now. I agree that it is time to do things for YOU. Look into seeing a new Dr. Make an appointment with a trainer at Planet Fitness and see what they can do to help. As for your marraige, the only thing that I can think of is to pray. Pray for your husband and for yourself. Lift the situation up to God and ask for Him to change both of your hearts. I don't mean to sound trite, but only with God's healing can you find peace. I'll be adding my prayers.

I am so sorry about your depression- I think different medications can become less effective over time and you need to change. I was on one that worked fine but my depression broke through. The psychiatrist I went to tinkered with things for a while until he found the combo I am on now.
I don't know how money is for you- mine is tight but maybe if you called planet fitness they could hook you up with an exercise buddy you could go with. It would get you out of the house which is good and might make it easier to follow through.
I know I hated to acknowledge it when I was being a coach potato but you do feel so much better when you exercise- I am just doing 15 or 20 min on exercise bike and I can't believe how much better I feel.
As for your husband I know how negative they can be- mine is most of the time too- I find I have to make a life for myself separate from him with friends who care for me and value me.
the fact that you have gone through all these health challenges means you are a survivor and you are still wanting to try to get better- you are very brave. emoticon

You deserve to be happy too. You should call that health club and see if you can reserve time with a personal trainer. That will get your butt in gear having an appointment. I think you would benefit by friending one of my Spark friends named "Determined Me" She's on my friends list. She is in a happy marriage, but she will inspire you to work out with all her fitness. You need to get moving to fight back all those disabilities that you listed. I do Wii Fit Plus and it's pretty motivating and fun even though I don't think it is all that rigorous, at least the way I do it is not too hard. I just congratulate myself for not being a total couch potato which I was up until last summer. I'm glad you friended me. I'm glad you felt comfortable enough with the Spark world to post such a candid blog. I hope you find comfort in your life. emoticon
