Forever Grateful

Tuesday, July 12, 2011

I never thought this day would come. And, a year ago, I never thought to consider this a “goal” to be achieved. But I am living proof that if you have God in your life and what you desire is in your heart, ANYTHING is possible. Today I was informed that I no longer have to wear compression stockings. They were prescribed for me in September, 2009 because of my health (or, I should say, my unhealthy legs). And I had been wearing them faithfully every waking moment since then. They only came off my legs when I went to sleep at night. You can imagine my state of mind and being when I received the call from my doctor’s office at 5:30PM this evening telling me that, because of my weight loss (77 pounds) and active life, it was no longer necessary to wear them continuously! I was told to not wear them at all for a while and see how it goes. Well, you didn’t have to tell me that twice, although I did ask for it to be repeated because I just wanted to be sure my hearing was not impaired.

I thank God, my family and SparkPeople.com community for helping me on my journey to better health. I am forever grateful! Time to celebrate this miracle! Who wants to join me for a bike ride!

I'm so happy for you. I am in the process of having spider veins removed and have had to wear the compression hose for a total of 2 weeks. I hated them, even for just a week. After having worn the hose for so long, you must feel very FREE!

The Beauty of Nature

Thursday, June 30, 2011

Today I decided to do a different kind of exercise that I haven't done in over 25 years: hiking! After a good nourishing breakfast, my husband and I took off for Lake Minnewaska in the Shawangunk Mountains of New York. What an exciting day it was! We hiked all around the huge lake while focusing on the sights, smells and sounds of Mother Nature. Six hours of hiking passed and the main thing we realized was how beautiful and peaceful God's creation really is!

A year later....stronger, wiser, healthier

Monday, June 20, 2011

On January 1, 2010 I made a serious decision to lose weight. My health was going downhill slowly and I was finding myself in a depression. My family encouraged me to become active and to control food portions. So I began to ride my bike every weekend, weather permitting. As long as it wasn't raining or snowing, I was riding. Weekdays after work were for indoor stationary bike or ellyptical work-outs because of the short daylight hours here in New York during the winter. But as soon as Springtime rolled around, I headed outdoors every day that it wasn't raining. Even though I was not paying attention to my food intake, I began to lose the weight and dropped about 30 pounds. But by May I plateaued and became very frustrated. I was afraid of gaining the weight that I lost. And then it started, first one pound, then two, then three.

On June 20, 2010 I found SparkPeople.com while on Facebook. I clicked on the icon and the rest is history. Today, a year later, I am 1 pound away from my goal weight. I had hoped to have reached it today on my 1st year anniversary, but it did not happen. And that's ok because I have accomplished so much during this past year. My improved health is testimony to that. I am no longer obese and all my vitals are in normal range! I could not have done this without the support, advice, and friendship of everyone who is part of SparkPeople.com. And for this I am so grateful!

I have much more to share but will put it all in my success story. I just wanted to tell everyone what a wonderful journey this is to better health. I am stronger, wiser and alot healthier!

What an inspiration!

Saturday, May 28, 2011

Today I was inspired by a member of SparkPeople.com who recently completed an unfinished curtain project. This member blogged about the great stair workout she got from the many trips she had to take going upstairs to the sewing room and downstairs to the basement where the window was located in order to complete this long overdue project. Well, dear friend, I, too, had a similar project and I got a similar workout! Mine, however, involved horizontal mini blinds that were purchased many years ago. They were too long and I never made time to alter them to the proper length . I just hung them and pulled them up thinking it was just a temporary solution. Many years later the project is completed along with giving them a good cleaning using the bathtub located upstairs! Ten sets of blinds in all! Later in the early part of this evening, I plan to relax on my Trek riding an easy trail enjoying nature's gentle breeze.

Stairs are a great way to get some steps in and stay in shape. Both my computer and my laundry room is downstairs. My husband thinks I am crazy because I will fold the clothes downstairs and bring up small piles to put away instead of bringing up the basket all at once! Of course, it is to get my steps in.

We also have a second floor at work that I try and find excuses to go up to multiple times of day.

That is one of the great benefits of better health, you have the energy and inclination to complete these types of projects (and what a boost to get an aged project finally done).

    WooHoo!! emoticon on the mini-blinds.

I'm so glad that I got my curtains up. My next project is to take the wallpaper border down in my son's room and paint it. He moved out 3 years ago and I have not done a thing.

I hope that you had a great ride. It drizzled here all day so we did not get out. Tomorrow we have a chance of T-storms so maybe we'll be able to squeeze a ride in.

Have a wonderful holiday.
