Challenged....

Tuesday, February 22, 2011

In response to my "daily challenge" with the (((( Sending SKINNY Vibes! )))) team, the following is a list of some of my hopes and dreams, not in any special order:

1. To be able to visit my sons more frequently.
2. To continue on my journey to better health by losing weight and toning my muscles.
3. To celebrate life more often.
4. To complete a 5K running.
5. To complete a bike tour.
6. To be more understanding.
7. To contribute quilts to Project Linus.
8. That my son gets a job he loves to do.
9. For my husband and I to enter retirement years without financial worry
10. For a closer relationship with my God.

A new year...be glad!

Saturday, January 01, 2011

It's the start of a new year, new outlook, renewed faith, renewed energy. I've come a long way over the past six months since joining Sparkpeople.com, learning so much about myself and how to take better care of myself in order to live a long and prosperous life. Faith in God, good nutrition, daily exercise, patience, tolerance, determination, support of family, a sense of humor are some of the key ingredients that helped me take the small steps to reach my short term goals which will ultimately lead me to reach my long term goal. Challenges are many. One of the most difficult is refraining from "emotional eating". But each day I try dilligently to overcome this. As most will agree, this is not an easy task. So, celebrate each day, each accomplishment. For today, like every day, is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it!

It's a great feeling....

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Well, today I decided to photogragh my accomplishments so far. All I can say is, "What a great feeling!"

New day, new me...

Monday, August 23, 2010

Here it is, the start of a new week. With rain in the forecast for the next couple of days, the location of exercise plans have to change to that of indoors. So, today after work I hit the gym and used the stationary bike for a while. Although I do not get as "pumped up" emotionally as I do when I ride outdoors on trails, I concentrated on the positive effects the exercise was having on my heart. Before I joined SparkPeople.com, I generally would have skipped a cardio work-out if inclement weather would prevent me from doing it outdoors. Well, it's a new day and it's a new me!

Patience and determination....

Sunday, August 15, 2010

What an exciting day it is to learn (or re-learn) something new. My newly developed good habits with nutrition and exercise has resulted in a fantastic "weigh-in" morning! Sparkpeople.com is a classroom for me and I am the student, eager to learn and implement what I have learned. I am truly beginning to understand the benefits of planning my meals and exercise activities before the week begins. Tonight I cooked up a storm with so many new vegetable dishes using some of the recipes from this site. I am fortunate to have farms nearby to buy fresh fruits and vegetables. By cooking a variety of dishes for the week, I can spend my time after work heading off to a nearby rail trail for a bike ride without hurrying back to cook dinner. It took me a while to reorganize my "old routine" and toss out bad habits but with patience and determination, I can honestly say how great it is to see my health improve.

I'm so intimidated by cooking meals for a week...I'm glad you got that down!

Tonight is braised red cabbage, grilled chicken breast, ear of corn. Lots of fresh veggie dishes throughout the week, some with tofu, chicken or lean pork; others meatless.
