Here I Go Again

I'm back on the fitness and healthy eating train again. This time, after umpteenth times, I plan on staying on for the ride of my life.

I prepared myself by doing one week of Phase 1 of the South Beach Diet and to my surprise actually stuck with it for the entire week. I definitely felt my body going through sugar withdrawal but I didn't have any carb cravings. Carbs are my weakness especially in the form of sweet delectable desserts and mac and cheese but I actually fought against temptation. It wasn't easy, try walking through the mall the smell of Cinnabon always seems to find you.

After my one week carb cleanse, I weighed in today had a 4lb weight loss and I started Phase 2 with adding healthy carbs to my diet and beginning a rotation of Turbo Jam Advance Rip You Up. I was looking forward to my workout which is proof to me that things will be different this time.

I have set the following health and fitness goals to keep me accountable:

Complete 2 months of TJ Advance Rip You Up rotation (5/13/12).
Complete a rotation of Chalean Extreme (8/5/12).
Complete a rotation of Turbo Fire (12/23/12).
Drink a minimum of 8 glasses of water a day.
Eat at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day.
Stay within my calorie range 1200-1550 a day.

Chapter 8: Lifestyle Change

Action Steps:

1. Continue with SparkTime - I make a point of logging in everyday to track and interact online.

2. Review your goals - I review my goals daily (to do list) & weekly (goals list) with tips from Chalene Johnson's 30 Day Push program.

3. Choose at least one motivational technique and incorporate it into your week - I use a combination of reading inspirational quotes, reading SparkPeople success stories, pictures and streaks.

4. Choose at least one way to draw support from positive people - posting blogs and posting on the message boards are areas where I get support from positive people.

5. Learn how to overcome hurdles - I've learned to not give up when I have over indulged or missed a workout day. This was especially important this past Thanksgiving weekend. I know I have to focus on taking it one day at a time.

    I could have written this! You and I, we think alike. Reading is so important to me in anything I try to accomplish in life.

Chapter 7: Healthy Diet Habits

This chapter is all about nutrition and adopting the habits of people who achieved their weight loss goals. There are 5 action steps to complete:

- Take the healthy lifestyle pledge.
- Adopt the secrets of success.
- Track your food daily.
- Consistently exercise 10 minutes a day.
- Get adequate sleep each night.

I recommitted myself by printing out the pledge and signing it again (initially signed it when I joined SP).

The secrets of success include eating 5 servings of fruits/vegetables, eat breakfast daily, and drink eight cups of water. I did all three everyday except for Saturday, I didn't get all of my fruits/veggies in.

I tracked my food everyday. I didn't track everything I ate on Saturday didn't exactly follow program that day. emoticon

I am doing a Chalean Extreme / Turbo Jam hybrid rotation so I got my 10 minutes a day in.

In the beginning of the week I was having difficulty falling asleep. Because of the water I drank throughout the day I would wake up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom which interrupted my sleep. This got better later in the week I think my body was exhausted from the workouts and I stopped drinking water earlier in the day.

This was a good week for me. I'm proud of myself for sticking to the program for the most part. I'm even prouder that I didn't beat myself up when I slipped which would have been a normal reaction.

Chalean Extreme / Turbo Jam: Week 1

I completed a full week of Chalean Extreme and today was weigh-in day. I started the program at 183.4 lbs and lost 4.2 pounds. I believe a couple of those pounds are water weight from consuming a high sodium diet (McD's extra value meals) during the days leading up to the start of the program. When I make a decision and set a date to get back to a healthy lifestyle I have an awful habit of loading up on junk food with the crazy belief that I will prevent cravings later by indulging now emoticon

Below are the workout routines I completed in Week 1:
Day 1 - Turbo Jam 20min & Burn Circuit 1
Day 2 - Turbo Jam Cardio Party
Day 3 - Turbo Jam 20min, Just Dance 3 (40min) & Burn Circuit 2
Day 4 - Burn Intervals, Just Dance 3 (45min) & Ab Burner
Day 5 - Turbo Jam 20min & Burn Circuit 3
Day 6 - Burn it Off, Just Dance 3 (45min), & Recharge
Day 7 - Rest day

I've been tracking my food intake and staying within the recommended 1200-1550 calorie range.

I feel motivated and energized. I will strive to keep the momentum going one day at a time.

Chapter 6: Fast Break

It's been months since my last blog. I strayed away from the program but have recommitted myself to living a healthy lifestyle one step at a time.

I'm continuing my blogs about The Spark book with chapter 6. This chapter helps you establish your fast break goals which are small daily goals to help you ease into your transition to a healthy lifestyle.

My fast break goals are:
Nutrition: Drink eight 8-oz cups of water each day.
Fitness: Exercise for 10 minutes a day.
Motivation: Read an inspirational quote each day.
