No scale change but a big attitude adjustment

Many days of good choices can still lead to disappointment on the scale the next weigh in. That's okay, I've been playing the health and fitness game long enough that I know that it is persistence and dedication that will eventually lead the way if my scale isn't my friend.

Going to the pool to exercise, relax, and spend some time to myself is the best part of my day. Often, I find I don't want to get out and go home because it is so soothing.

After some good pool work, my attitude toward the events in my day dissolve and I go home feeling good, healthy, and at rest.

What isn't there to love about grabbing that small amount of time to make such a big difference in the day.

Time to focus

It is officially spring break! It's time to get focused and commit to a great week to proper diet and exercise.

I went off track last weekend when I attended a conference. The food was too rich but very good. It was truly catch as catch can which is never an ideal combination.

I am eager to increase my walking and put my food choices back into proper perspective.

Looking forward to a positive week.

Where to start?

I'm reflecting on my previous goals, my blog introduction, and the changes that have occurred the last two years while I have been in the kingdom. My weight has gone up and down, I have exercised less, my meals are far more simple; I have become stronger in my craft and more self confident.

I am taking graduate level classes while I work a full-time teaching job. I have learned so much and am enjoying it thoroughly. I find that I still have difficulty with the 24 hour clock and the priorities for each day. I still put myself in last position instead of first.

I don't see myself as failing, yet I realize that I am on a continual journey. I cherish the interaction with my students and colleagues. I attempt to meet the time deadlines and expectations of others. I have finished another class, it is time to begin taking care of myself again. Me first. It has an amazing ring to it. It has begun this week.

I am looking forward to the next 6 months ahead.

I'm back to tracking my food and trying to discover the nutritional facts about foods I'm finding here. I'm hoping to start my exercising again today, not quite as energetically since I'm still a bit drained from jet lag. My inspiration was the conversation going to work yesterday where five women were all lamenting the fact that they had gained weight living here. Since I had already experienced that, I could only laugh and make a mental note to maintain my disciplined habits. I can't afford to gain more, I'm already in my larger clothes.

I brought with me my measuring spoons, cups, and a weight scale. The weight scale caused a problem in the Yuma Airport Security. They had to run my backpack through 3 times. They just couldn't identify it! Go figure.

I have my nutritional tools in hand, now I just have to find a yoga mat and some hand weights to help my physical pursuits.

I'm off to the store. Wish me luck!

The temperature wasn't quite as warm, a stiff wind had cropped up. I was able to get my full 8 miles in today. It felt really good. I'm still battling the blisters with the shoes I have with me.

My visa was processed today, I'm hoping to travel within 4 day. Yahoo! I'm a little nervous about maintaining my workout as I go back to work and my eating habits since we have moved to a new province.

I keep trying to tell myself that all things worth having are worth the wait. My visa has been such a long journey of waiting. I will succeed toward a balanced lifestyle.

    I am heading to Saudi Arabia to go back to work. All is packed, I'm spent yesterday collecting those things I haven't been able to find abroad like moisture wick exercise clothing for women :-) I have a 5 hour layover at LAX. I am going to wear loose clothing and my new tennis shoes so I can at least get walk while I wait before my 16 hour flight. I'll be gone from SP for a couple of days. I can't wait to get my exercise groove into place as I work through my jet lag. Let's hope I can make good eating and exercise decisions as I work through the 2 or 3 weeks it takes me to get me feet back on the ground.
