Last night, my hubby took the night off from work, and we went to see the new Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts movie - Larry Crowne. We enjoyed it a lot. I highly recommend it. If there was any bad language it was minimal. Nice romantic comedy. We shared a popcorn and a candy. It was a fun date night.
Yesterday, I got the results of my last blood work and the liver panel is dropping, so my doctor is happy.
Thursday I had the 2nd and 3rd parts to the latex testing at the allergist. I had the skin prick tests, negative, then they do the latex challenge where they wet my finger, put on a latex glove, then repeat wetting my whole hand and putting on a latex glove, then finally repeat wetting my hand, putting on a latex glove, and administering another skin prick test on the gloved hand. It still in inconclusive, and will need to get a consult with my allergist, but it probably won't happen til after my next surgery, so I am to approach it as though I do have a latex allergy until they figure it out.
My younger son is getting ready to lifeguard at camp again, so it will be a quiet week on the home front. This year he plans to only go two weeks instead of the four he spent away last year, since he has a local part time job.
Yesterday, my legs and back were really quite tight, and achy, so walking was at a minimum. It feels somewhat better today, I am just on slow mode, and going with the flow.
This morning, I worked at trying some of my low back stretches, most of which are difficult to impossible right now with my knee. When I sit watching tv I use my wrist weights, and stress ball for strengthening. Today I have tried sitting for a longer period of time upright at my computer, and gone in and out, up and down the front stairs a few times.
Happy Independence Day and Happy 4th of July!

It is a couple days of trying to fit in 2 allergist appointments, more blood work, transferring auto registrations, bank visits, picking up a grocery order, etc.
It is enough to wear me out.
We did go out for a family breakfast though, a very rare treat for the three of us. Now my hubby is getting ready to teach my son how to drive standard since my son's car is now dead, and he has to downgrade to our old standby - the buick that take's you back to the 80's.
I slept last night, but woke with my typical sciatica and leg muscle pain. At least I sleep in pretty large blocks of time. Sitting in upright chairs today are pretty aggravating.
I am supposed to walk again this afternoon with my spark friend. I look forward to it, even though the weather has gotten rather hot and humid, so I am not sure if we will bring it indoors or not. My leg muscles are complaining today. One step at a time.
So between "running" from appointment to appointment, and walking, I will be glad to put my legs up later. Hopefully the recliners will get fixed so I don't have to wrestle with them. Both are having problems that frustrate me considerably - they either get stuck and the handle falls off (stripped bolt), or it's falling apart. I guess that's what you get when you buy used furniture, but I am sure we have gotten more than the money's worth of use.
I have done some recreational reading, and am thinking of my next crochet project. Gotta run - appointments calling me!

I just got back from the orthopedic knee doctor. I had my stitches removed, got my report of the surgery, and will begin Physical Therapy next week on July 7. My doc said that he was impressed with my movement, despite the pain and stiffness. He said there was more arthritis in the knee than he thought as well as everything else so had to treat that, and as he put it, buying time before needing a knee replacement! (years, whew!)
Then, since the nurse from the worker's comp insurance was there, my low back surgery was scheduled - for August 2!
That will be surgery #3 since March 9, to treat the herniated disc (L4-5), and stabilize my lumbar spine due to the increasing spondylolisthesis. It's been a long haul since the fall of February 9, 2009!
I am two thirds done this surgery triathlon, except for the physical therapy for the knee. So I think I am better than half way done.
Right now, I am waiting for my walking spark buddy.
I will keep strengthening my legs, and back. I will keep my focus.
I will be relying on my spark friends for moral support through this.

A couple days ago I WON A SPARKPEOPLE: $10 SparkPeople Store Gift Certificate on the spark wheel. How exciting!
So, I invested a little more in myself and am getting two items, that have been shipped already! I can't wait to get them!
I ordered a black v-neck spark people tee shirt because I love that style t-shirt,
and a blue sparkpeople stress ball to keep strengthening my arm and hand muscles since having the cervical spine surgery.
I am worth it, and glad to have a little bit of added sparkle to brighten my day!
I have been struggling with regaining my leg strength since the knee surgery, and was given this quote a couple days ago. It strengthened my inner motivation . . .
I am a slow walker, but I never walk backwards. - Abraham Lincoln, U.S. President
Wow - this really touched me today when I reread it from my journal. I will keep this in mind as I gently work my legs back into stronger walking. (I go to my orthopedic dr. for the follow up to my knee surgery Tuesday afternoon - so looking forward to a physical therapy schedule.)
Thanks Spark people, and Spark friends! You make my day, and help to keep me going, and walking, and strengthening me along the way.
