Yay! 2.5 lb in one week!

I am super pumped that I have lost 2 1/2 pounds this week! I am totally in the routine now! Working out 5 times a week and am pretty much able to judge calories without even keeping track (although I still totally am!) It's getting so much easier and I get it now when they say it's a lifestyle change...b/c my life HAS changed! I'm still hating working out but I'm doing it and if I skip for some reason I feel gross so that itself is motivation to do it daily :) Last week I had a breakdown because I've only been losing 1/2 pound a week and I thought I'd never reach my goal weight in time...but only 4 more pounds to go and 3 weeks to do it I don't feel too discouraged anymore!!! yay me!

New Outlook

So, I had a good long cry yesterday! Totally frustrated with all of this. I just don't know exactly how many calories I should be trying to burn each workout day because it seems like SP figures them by the amount of TIME I spend doing it rather than just telling me how many I need to burn. I like to do the fastest workouts possible so it frustrated me that I was basically working out with no exact number goal for how many I needed to be burning. Well, good ole SP isn't the only thing out there! SO I did some research...and found a great site that figured the at rest calories I burn per day (1757). So just by eating 1200 calories a day I'm already a defecit of 557. I want to try to lose 2 lb a week and EVERY site says that I would have to have a defecit of 1000 calories per day. So I decided to brun 200 calories every workout day (5 days a week) and that is about 143 per day if you divide it out to all 7 days. Add that to the 557 and I have a defecit of right at 700! I feel SO much better KNOWING I'm in control of this and not just trusting SP to tell me when I feel like it's not based off of what I really need. (It was telling me to just burn 152 per workout day...so that divided by 7 is just 109 calories). And I know to get to my 2 lb per week goal I need to work out on the weekends or for longer on the workout days :)

rested calories burned: 1757
calories I eat per day: 1200
calories I burn per day: 200 (5x per week)
defecit: 4899 per week OR about 700 per day!

ALSO in my research I found more information on zig-zag calories eating and it makes total sense to me. So I'm going to vary the amount of calories I eat each day. One day I will eat 1104 and the next 1242. I feel the combination of the zig-zag eating and the knowledge of how many calories I need to burn per day will really help me reach my goals!!!

I feel SO MUCH BETTER now!!!! I have a totally new outlook and while I don't use SP for the actual number of calories I should eat or should burn I do still think it will help keep track of everything for me and keep me motivated :)

In addition....I weighed in this morning and it's "that time of the month" so I knew the scale might be off and it said I gained 1/2 lb! I am so happy about this b/c I know duing "that time" we all put on a little weight so I figure I stayed about the same which is wonderful seeing as I had so many bad days and was so totally confused on what I was doing :) yay me!

    If you enjoy zig zagging your calories, look up the Calorie Cycling Spark Team! The team leader swears by zig zagging, and they've got really great challenges and stuff too.

Doing the math is much less frustrating for me, too. :) I did a bunch of research on my BMR, etc., and put it into an Excel spreadsheet so I could track calories better. The funny thing is, using the BMR and calorie cycling -- I weighed EXACTLY what I thought I should at the end of the week! Uncanny!

Learning Curve

Eating out is soooo much harder than I ever expected! I know I'm learning right now but what I ate tonight I thought woud for sure be good for me...I just got sourdoug bread, turkey, lettuce, black olives, oil and viniger and cheese. I thought that was the healthiest choice and OF COURSE I went over my cals today! Grr...gotta work out extra tomorrow and THIS is why I'd rather cook b/c I'm in control of the calories and I can figure out how much I can eat in advance instead of having to put it all in after and feeling bad about it!!!

    I have the same issues... like even if I get a salad, I know there are extra calories lurking in there...

    I know exactly what you mean. Last week was hell for me and my eating habits. It seemed like every time I turned around hubby or his parents wanted to go out to eat. Luckily, we are doing much better this week and I even lost 3 pounds last week! Good luck and keep up the great work!

I am feeling super awesome! I just weighed myself and I've lost 2 1/2 pounds already! It motivates me so much!!! I really think the drinking 8 glasses of water the past couple of days is washing out my system so I know it's not going to be this "easy" forever but if I can get a good head start on losing I'll be feeling good in my pants in no time and then the rest of the weight will be bonus :)
I originally decided I would just weigh in once a week but I think it will be too tempting not to weigh in more often :)
Also I am trying to make it my personal goal to ONLY eat 1200 - 1300 calories a day (which is my minimum) and really try to just eat 1200. I know I can't eat less and stay healthy but to me if I can control the amount of calories why not eat as little as is healthy so that way I can lose it faster? I'm also trying to burn more calories than it suggests everyday! We'll see how my methods work!!!! I wish I could tell everyone about my weight loss b/c I am so proud of myself but none of my family or friends even know I'm trying to lose (they all saw me at the wedding looking great so I just hide my weight gain) but at least I have my husband to tell it all too :)

    Wow good for you..... 2.5 lbs is AMAZING!!! I am also trying to eat a minimum of calories...... I am not sure if going for the minimum is the greatest but I have a wedding dress I am trying to fit into :( I am pushing myself hard because I can...... I know people say not to do too much all at once but I figure how else am I going to lose all this disguisting weight.

Also, if you aren't telling anyone, it will be so noticeable and you will love it when people comment on how great you look

So today I focused most of my energy on sparkpeople. I spent so much time learning the site, going on message boards, and really getting to know the entire program. I still have lots to learn but I'm excited about it! I have always felt like I need an outlet in my life...my husband has sports and I used to have shopping but we don't have the money for me to do any of that. So I'm thinking that THIS could be my new outlet. I feel so inspired!

I read that someone carries around a water bottle all day to get in their 8 glasses so today I really tried it. I drank 5 of the glasses while just watching tv and the other 3 over dinner. I have had to pee 8 times since but I feel so clean and SO SO proud of myself which is an awesome feeling.

I also really worked hard to get my portions right and to measure everything. It feels good to know I'm doing it the RIGHT way and by the book!

    Imagine how you'll feel in a few weeks after doing the right thing!! Even if I hadn't lost a lb (which I didn't for the first month) I actually felt better after I worked out and ate right. Now when I splurge on a sweet my stomach is NOT happy about it and I regret doing it.

I know about the peeing 50 times a day!! That will get better though once you're body's used to that much water a day. I can definitely tell when I haven't had enough because I get SOO thirsty.
