The Philadelphia Rock and Roll Half Marathon

Tuesday, May 14, 2013

I am beyond excited for this race! I have signed up for it through TNT and we have our first meeting this weekend. I have been out running but this time I am actually following a training plan instead of trying to fit all my training in the month before the race (and end up with a foot injury). My goal is to finish in less than 3 hours and to be able to run more of the race. I would also like this to aide in my weight loss efforts but am trying to figure out exactly how to feed my body so it will have the energy it needs for running while still creating a deficit. Any suggestions? There is so much information out there, but I would like to hear from someone that has actually had real results.

So here goes nothing! After this one, I plan on doing the Princess Half in Disney World again. Anyone in the Philly area that is also running the Rock and Roll half?

Congrats on training for a half marathon. I'm going to be running one in June (sadly not the Philly). It's a lot of work but it's worth it.

Honestly, I haven't found that perfect balance of food in, calories burned through running. BUT, my legs and butt are getting lean and toned! The muscle mass I'm building is offsetting the fat I'm loosing and I'm fine with that. Make sure you measure your inches and have a good look at your body, the scale may not move but you could still be having a lot of progress.

Oh and speaking of progress, if you're not already running longer distances you'll be making progress in that area too! 3 months ago I couldn't run, this week I'm up to 8 miles!

Nutritionists are the BOMB!!

Thursday, March 28, 2013

I met with my nutritionist today. I love meeting with her because talking with her makes me get out of my head and really figure out why I am making the decisions I am making. She gives me realistic goals to work toward. For the next 30 days, I am going to:

1. Run 3 days a week with one long run in there
2. Eat more protein with my snacks to stay fuller and help my body utilize food better
3. Try one new fruit and veggie each week (research a new recipe on Sunday to utilize that new fruit or veggie)
4. Eat Greek yogurt 4 days per week
5. Use sparkpeople to log my calories

i am supposed to report back to her in exactly 4 weeks (so I guess a little less than 30 days). I am very excited about this and am looking forward to seeing some changes in 4 weeks. emoticon

Sounds like great advice, I hadn't thought about trying new fruits or veggies each week. That would shake up my same old spinach salad withtegrapes. I am addicted to Chobani greek yogurt right now, the chocolate chunk is the best, It tastes a lot better then Dannon greek. Good luck

Race training

Tuesday, March 26, 2013

Today I started training for a race I am running in May. It felt so good to get back out there. It was an easy 2.5 mile run - which amazes me that I can run an easy anything! Now that we have spring weather instead of winter I am looking forward to doing some outside running. I am SO bored of the treadmill!

Any thoughts on how to spice up my dreadmill routine? I LOVE running but really have a hard time doing more than 3 miles on the treadmill.

Ha, my own personal advice would be just don't get on the treadmill, but I am a devoted outdoor runner! BUT I'm pretty sure Sparkpeople has some treadmill training plans. You could also try interval running.

What race are you doing? How long is it? I'm so nosy when it comes to other peoples races!

Last year in my 20s - its going to be my year!!

Monday, March 25, 2013

This year so far has been a big year for us. We moved from Lancaster to Malvern, PA, I started a new job, and I ran my first half marathon (the Disney Princess Half Marathon - it was absolutely amazing!).

Even with all these big things happening, I have found my motivation wavering. I can blame it on any number of things: stress, the weather, any other outside influence. I know, however, that it is all on me. So, in the spirit of ending my 20s with a bang, here are my goals for 2013:

1. Reach goal weight by 30th birthday (7/2): 135lbs
2. Run Philadelphia Rock & Roll half marathon in under 3 hours (I finished the Disney Half in 3 hours 22 minutes)
3. Learn to rock climb
4. Go horseback riding
5. Buy our first house (this may not happen before the end of 2013 but we will at least have the process started)
6. Pay down my student loan debt
7. Step out of my comfort zone and meeting new people

So here they are. I will let you guys know as I cross each one off. I have to say I am a bit scared of turning 30. It is such a big deal to me for some reason and I am nowhere close to where I thought I would be when I turned 30. I am happily married, we are both healthy, and are thinking about starting a family so I know that I am blessed. I just need to get my head wrapped around the fact that I will be entering this new phase of my life. emoticon

Manic Monday

Monday, April 16, 2012

What a crazy day! I think there was a little Friday the 13th hanging around. I was supposed to start a new project today but couldn't because I needed something from someone who of course wasn't in the office today. I am beyond frustrated. I even came to work early to get things up and running. So I left early and decided to come home instead of going to the gym. I needed a little quality time with my husband. Feeling much better now.

How do you guys handle crazy days like today? This isn't going to stop and work is just going to get crazier. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I had one of these days yesterday. Came home and turned on some good music, nice hot bubble bath and a nice cup of tea. This always does it for me. Hope things get better. Hang in there.
