Falling off the wagon....

Tuesday, July 03, 2007

This week has been especially difficult. The wedding threw me for a loop the other day when there were absolutely no healthy options to choose from which began the cycle of bad eating this week. Yesterday I had a craving for funyuns. So I ended up eating more than my fair share of calories. Today I intend to cut those back a little, but tonight we are going out to dinner for my dad's birthday celebration. I'm going to try to stick with something healthy. I love the salad at o'charley's with the reduced fat Italian dressing, but I'm not sure if I have enough self control to only eat 1 of their delicious rolls. Plus their menu isn't very vegetarian friendly. I usually end up getting either the cheese wedges or the spinach dip for my meal. And to round off the week of bad eating there is the 4th of july holiday which we (my family and I) will be spending at the same family's house whom had the not-so-healthy food choices at their wedding, so I shall be eating at home before I leave.

Yesterday I went to my mother's gym as a guest and walked over two miles, plus I swam for a half an hour. I really enjoyed the gym so I submitted a financial aid application in hopes of getting a better rate.

I became a little off track today with my food choices. But I'm not going to take the blame for this one. I went to a wedding yesterday and they had absolutely nothing healthy. I was expecting at least a veggie tray, or some fruit...nope non of that. I was starving while I was there too so I had to eat something. Even though I ate a ton of crappy food today I am proud that I only drank water while I was there. They had a ton of different sodas to choose from but I was able to stay strong and didn't give in to drinking soda.

Oh and I'm a little excited because I'm going to wear my pedometer to work for the first time Sunday morning. I'm so curious to see how much I really walk there.

Yay I received my pedometer in the mail today after work. I've already set it up and installed the software. I'm curious to see how much I walk per day (on average). I also think that this will be a motivator on days when I'm feeling extra sluggish.

My thoughts on Exercise...

Thursday, June 28, 2007

Exercising will probably be the hardest thing for me to do on this plan. I have always hated doing it, mainly because my parents never had made it a daily routine, so naturally I didn't either. It's time consuming and difficult at this point in time and I have always felt weird doing it. BUT I know it is good for me and today I started to do workout using the Strength Training exercises that Sparkpeople has provided. Like I said I didn't like doing it but I know that it is something that is good for me and I should be doing it regularly.

Even though I loathed almost every minute of it I feel really good overall, like I've accomplished my first step to a healthier new me. Also I have a feeling of rejuvenation as well. I feel like this will begin to get easier as I keep working out. I know after a few weeks I'll know the moves better and feel less awkward doing them. I'm sure that when I begin to see results not only from the scale but most importantly from the measuring tape it will only amp up my desires to exercise more. Also I cannot wait to get my pedometer in the mail.

Yeah exercising is a challenge for everyone. I only go on walks. Sometimes my puppies make me run. But they keep me busy. I was suprised for some reason that you make homemade soup. (You look so young)Do you have any favorites to share? Keeping a journal of your calories and keeping up some daily exercise will get you far. You also look like you have good taste in clothes. Best wishes Karen from CA

You Live, You Learn!

Wednesday, June 27, 2007

Today was a difficult food choice day. I thought I was making a good choice when I made a homemade soup (which was super delicious), but I wasn't aware that it had so many calories and sodium in it. Thanks to the recipe calculator I now know that my "healthy recipe" isn't a healthy as I once thought it was. I guess that is what sparkpeople.com is about, learning to make good choices from bad mistakes and changing future behavior. But on the bright side it was jam packet with vitamins and I suppose it is better than eating a bag of chips or wasting my calories on soda.

Oh, I also bought a pedometer online today. I'm very excited about it. It comes with health management software so i can keep track of my progress for each day. Plus I don't normally wear belts and this particular pedometer can be put in a pocket which will be much more convenient for me. Also, I'm a waitress and I don't want others to see me wearing a pedometer so the pocket factor is great for the sake of confidentiality.

Even with that soup I'm still in my calorie range. So I'm off to drink a couple more cups of water to meet my goal for the day!
