As I sat here adding my nutrition, I started thinking about the fact that I am starting over with trying to lose weight yet again. I know I'm a strong woman because I've had enough trials in my life to prove my self. So, why do I keep having to start over? Why do I feel so worthless and such a financial drain on my family. I don't have the answers to these questions. I know I DO NOT want to look like a beached whale all my life! I've been doing the best I can to make good choices for the food I'm eating. Most of the time, I practice portion control if I am having something high in carbs. So what is wrong with me! Why is it that every time I start to make progress, something goes wrong? These past few weeks, it's been dealing with fluid retention. I've gained over 20 ponds of fluid and am having a devil of a time getting it off and keeping it off! I can't stand very long because of generative disc disease in my spine. But I do still manage to keep my house fairly clean. Today is just one of those days that I feel like I'm fighting a losing battle! But, all that said, I'm still NOT ready to give up!!!! emoticon

I'm reading the BECK DIET SOLUTION book, which isn't a "diet" but how to THINK like a THIN person. (Got a copy from the library.) I recommend it to everyone as she helps you learn to deal with sabotaging thoughts.

27. People won稚 make snide comments behind my back.

Cravings are usually more emotional and physiologically intense than hunger. The moment I decide I will ABSOLUTELY NOT EAT cravings will diminish.

When I experience a craving my attention gets fixated on food. It is important to remember that the experience of eating goes far beyond the actual time that food is in my mouth - It includes everything that happens afterward: feeling weak, guilty and out of control and gaining weight. In the past when I tried to diet, I gave into cravings, and I felt upset with myself.

    Carol thanks so much!!!!! I think I may have found the exercise solution. I love to dance and just found "Just Dance" for the wii it's more than just stepping like DDR

  Hi Lotzalady ,
I too have made the thousandth try to lose weight. I know what to do, I know all of the things that work. SPARKPEOPLE is the best I have ever seen. I only just started but already I am finding that I can make positive changes . You too can make the positive changes, you have had lots of practice and practice makes perfect. You can do it . As for the water retention, try very hard to cut back on the salt, read your labels, even the "supposed" lean meals have lots of salt. Also drink your 8 glasses of water every day. Eventually you will flush out your system and get back to normal.
Exercise is so key to this plan & it feels so good both physically and mentally to get up and move. I was actually able to put my socks and shoes on today without getting all out of breath . That is a huge accomplishment for me. Get some friends and family involved in your success , take them for a walk , make low calorie cooking a group activity. There are so many great recipes on the web-site.

Dance Dance Revolution

Hello Everyone,

I don't know how many of you like to dance, but I've found that getting the DDR was the second best decision I made for myself. (Losing Weight being the first! )I am totally terrible at it, but I have so much fun trying! I have mine set on beginner workout mode. So, it keeps track of the calories I burn (which is cool). I can do it in my own living room on my own schedule. I take turns with my daughter and my grand kids. They keep me motivated to do it. Since I am 55 years old with various medical problems, of course, I don't have mine set to the jumps and speeds that they do, but it still gets us moving! I highly recommend it

As you all know weight loss is not an easy battle to win. We all have moments when we lose a few battles along the way. The most important thing about our journey is the way we handle those times. The first thing a lot of us do is think we are failures and start mentally beating ourselves up. Then, we want to throw our hands up and say that we have no will power and we can't do any thing right. This is the wrong attitude to take over some thing that is easily fixed. All we have to do is admit we are human, we make mistakes and start over right now. Don't think well I blew it so I'll eat until I burst today. Don't wait until tomorrow or next week. Do not put it off. I know from experience, because this is one of the mind sets I'm trying to break.

  WELL SAID, LADY! I struggle with this thinking too. I have to get past it. I think that is the most serious of the problems holding me back from losing weight. My mindset needs to get a wake up call. I am not sure how to get on the right track. It is definitely a struggle, no doubt about that.
