Making a Way out of No Way and my January Movement Plan!

Saturday, January 02, 2010

MOVE IT, MOVE IT!!

Yesterday a friend of mine posted the following to my Facebook page:

"Sometimes you just need to hear, YOU are a beautiful woman, inside and out.
You are an exquisite mother, who can make a way out of no way, and you are LOVED!!

I didn't think much of it, it's one of those things that people post in multiples to many people. In fact, I didn't even truly read it.

Later that day, my husband took my hand and said "You know, you really do make a way when there is no way. I am very proud of you."

I was taken by surprise, I didn't know what had prompted his words, but I was deeply touched. He told me he had seen what my friend wrote, and thought those words summed me up to a "T". My eyes filled with tears, and those words further resolved my goal of losing 100 lbs. this year. I am almost halfway there, I can do this!

Below is my January Movement Plan (to be altered as needed). I also posted it on my SparkPage, but I thought a monthly blog of my actions would help keep me accountable.

Let's all MOVE IT this January!!

JANUARY MOVEMENT PLAN:

Cardio 4x a week
Strength training 2x

Every day: Spark Bootcamp challenge

In addition to that:

Sat: Core Commotion class or Aqua class
Sun: Track or bike
Tues: Spinning or Aqua class
Thurs: Zumba

My Goals for 2010

Thursday, December 31, 2009

"For last year's words belong to last year's language
And next year's words await another voice.
And to make an end is to make a beginning."

~T.S. Eliot, "Little Gidding"

FITNESS/WEIGHT:

My main goal is to get into Onederland, meaning for me, losing 100 lbs. total. I am almost halfway there, at about 43 lbs. lost so far. I definitely think it's attainable for me to reach this goal in 2010.

I am striving to reach my ultimate goal of 176 lbs. (my current goal weight) by the end of September, 2010 (9/17/10 target date).

Continue working out at my health club, striving for 3 days a week, working out at home 2 days a week.

Build a plan and post it on my Spark Page for my own fitness boot camp.

FAMILY

Leave the office at 5 p.m. so that I can get home in time to spend time with my family.

Take advantage of my lunch hour at work to do my personal writing so that I have more time at home with my family.

Not feel guilty about taking a half hour a day to write - when I get my writing time in, I am a much happier mother, wife and friend.

Spend more play time with Lucy.

BE HAPPY!!! Realize the blessings I have and be happy with what I have.

Continue to stay organized and purge what we don't need. Give to others.

Organize all of our family photos.

SPIRITUAL

Continue my walk with God and my journey of faith and discovery. Give it all to Him! Let Him guide me in my ways and dreams.

Find a church home.

Read through the bible in a year.

Volunteer some of our time as a family to help those in need.

FINANCIAL

We got out of our credit card debt in 2009 and vowed to not use credit cards for Christmas. We fulfilled that goal, now I want to stay within our budget, add to our emergency savings fund, get life insurance and plan for family vacations and for next Christmas so that we are financially fit!

WRITING

Finish my projects (short stories) that I have started so that I can move onto other things. To continue studying the short story form and once I finish these revisit my novels in progress.

I am going to add this to my Spark Page as reinforcement. If we write down our goals we are more likely to achieve them!!!

Thanks for sharing your goals! You have done an amazing job in the finacial area--we have been working on that too so I know how difficult that is. Our credit card debt won't be paid off until May and I am so looking forward to that!
May the Lord continue to bless you and your family in the coming year.

Progress Report Results - 12 wk. Boot Camp!!!

Wednesday, December 16, 2009

Here are the results of my 12-week boot camp. (9/22/09 - 12/8/09)

I lost 12 lbs in 12 wks.! The first 6 weeks I was in a major plateau that I just recently broke through. My fun chart reveals that losing 12 pounds = a Bald Eagle. I've lost a Bald Eagle!!!! I can't imagine carrying an eagle around on my shoulders!! LOL.

I lost 3.75 inches off of my waist!

I lost 0.5 inches off of my hips!

My waist to hip ratio went down -0.06! From 0.95 to 0.89. This number is important because for women you want to be at 0.86 or less - anything above that places you at significantly increased health risk of disease. So I am almost down to "healthy" here!

My BMI went down almost 2 points!!! It went from 42.6 to 40.17. Yes, this still has me in the obese category as it is above 30 pts., but I sure don't feel obese! I know I'm on my way to a healthier me!

Strength: I went from only being able to do 10 push ups (correctly, and I don't think I truly did them correctly at the beginning) to being able to do 13! Also when the PTs tested me my strength in my abdominal muscles was way up! I need to work on my gluts.

Cardio:

Last time I ran 10 and a half laps in 12 minutes, less than a mile. I actually walked most of the way, only being able to run the first two laps and then each subsequent lap either walking or walking a half a lap, running a half lap. My VO2 score was 21.

This time I ran the entire 12 minutes!!! I need to repeat that - I did NOT STOP! I ran the whole thing! My goal was to be able to run 6 laps in a row, but instead I did the whole thing! I ran 12 and a half laps total - a little OVER a mile! My VO2 score went up to 24.7. My VO2 score is poor, but before I wasn't even on the chart. Now I'm at least on the chart!

I have gone down a size in my jeans! I am able to wear my skinny jeans now and also some other pants that I never thought I'd be able to wear again. I have a pile of my "fat" clothes ready to donate as the pants are literally falling off of me!

TOTAL pounds lost on my journey: 40

40 pounds = a 5-gallon bottle of water or an average human leg

I AM SO MOTIVATED FOR THE NEW YEAR!!!

100 Reasons...

Tuesday, November 24, 2009

"The foolish man seeks happiness in the distance, the wise grows it under his feet." ~James Oppenheim, short-story writer, novelist, poet

I have a wonderful life. I have a loving husband of ten years, two beautiful, healthy daughters, I’ve achieved a 40 lb. weight loss so far, I have a supportive family and network of friends. What more could I want?

Just like George Bailey from the movie “It’s a Wonderful Life” I sometimes get thinking that I deserve a better, bigger, more Wonderful life than I already have. The same good old stuff starts to look old after a while. Sometimes, if left to my own devices, I can find so many things to complain and worry about. I think all of us can. We don’t like our boss, our job, our car, our life. If only I were just 20 pounds lighter, 3 sizes smaller, or $100,000 richer. If I were out of debt or made more money. If my hair were longer, if my eyes were brighter..if, if, if, if, if. But what about what IS? Even in the rain, God made the day perfect. Why not just enjoy it.

Matthew 6:26-34 says:

"Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?"

Just like the diamond stones in my ring, sometimes life just needs a little polishing. I am getting out my cloth, counting my blessings, and thanking the Lord for all He has given me.

And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. (Colossians 3:15 ESV)

100 REASONS

100 Reasons to be Thankful, Even in Hard Times (from the Spiritual Woman blog, available online at: http://spiritualwomanthoughts.blogspot.com
/2009/11/100-reasons-to-be-thankful-ev
en-in-hard.html)

To compile this list, she asked people (young and old) what they were thankful for this Thanksgiving. This is the list. What are you thankful for?

I am thankful for . . .

1. The health of my family.

2. Taking naps on the couch or in the backyard.

3. Driving the scenic route.

4. Community events open to the public.

5. My (flawed) relationships with God and my family, both immediate and extended. Flawed relationships are much better than none at all!

6. My wife and I have grown together and I am constantly grateful and impressed as she matures.

7. The Word of God.

8. Brief and productive meetings.

9. Quilts and blankets, to keep me warm.

10. My wonderful family and for my best friend, who has always been there with quiet support, encouragement, and words of wisdom, through thick and thin since the day we met.

11. The incredible diversity of people on this planet.

12. Co-workers who don't mind switching their days off to help you out.

13. Toys.

14. Dirty dishes because it means we have eaten. Thank you for baby giggles; they keep me sane.

15. That God made me.

16. Teddy bears.

17. The feel of a child’s hand in mine.

18. Waking up when you need to even when the alarm doesn't go off.

19. Babies.

20. The day being silent now that it's over for the little ones.

21. Movies and CDs being available at libraries.

22. The convenience of e-mail.

23. Wrinkle-free clothing.

24. Christmas lights.

25. Friends who care about me enough to tell me when I am being stupid.

26. Our Veterans.

27. Books, because I can experience the world, learn new things, laugh, cry and connect without ever leaving my couch.

28. My job, especially in this economy.

29. Religious leaders.

30. Volunteers.

31. A cup of hot cocoa on a cold day.

32. Family and friends; love them all!

33. The smell of homemade desserts baking in the oven.

34. Listening to beautiful music.

35. Friends meeting over a cup of tea; a fire in the hearth; a friendly game of Scrabble.

36. My kids, who can always make me laugh.

37. Being friends with my parents.

38. Every member of my family, especially for my mom who is a constant source of support, encouragement and friendship.

39. Enjoyable conversation between friends.

40. Hugs.

41. My family, have a job, having health insurance, and being loved as much as I am.

42. My health, even if I complain about certain aches and pains!

43. My family, my fiancé and being able to go to college.

52. The express line at the grocery store.

53. The generosity of strangers.

54. “Chick Flicks” vs. “Action Movies” and explaining why yours is more
enjoyable to the "other team".

55. Tossed aside treasures at tag sales or wherever they may be found.

56. Duct-Tape!

57. Good role-models we can point to for children to aspire to emulate.

58. Indoor plumbing - imagine life without it.

59. Date nights.

60. Inspiring words that lift our souls in times of crisis.

61. Youth and amateur sports leagues to both watch and play in.

62. People who obey traffic regulations.

67. Hidden places that you can sneak away to.

68. Health care workers.

69. Internet Maps and GPS devices.

70. Lucky old coins and favorite treasures, both precious and humble.

71. The spring that will come after the winter.

72. All those who came before us great and small have a story to tell. That
is what history is all about. So I am thankful to be able to know and learn
their story.

re-discovered.

74. People with interesting personalities who make the world better or at
the very least, more interesting.

supposed to be working.

80. Sunrises, sunsets, ocean waves, hidden forests, mossy rocks and mountain
streams and all the other wonderments of nature.

81. Our Guardian Angels who stay with us even when we try to refuse their help.

82. A child’s laughter.

83. The wisdom of elders.

84. Works of art.

85. Those perfect parking places which sometimes we are lucky enough to get.

86. The creative minds of others and what they share with us all.

87. Photos, for capturing a moment in time.

88. Relaxing periods of quiet during a busy day.

89. To live in a free country.

90. Bookmarks! No need to fold pages!

91. Museums.

92. Social Networking sites. I've always wanted to know what people I
haven't seen since grade school are up to.

93. Sweaters, hats, scarves and gloves.

94. Search engine searches that actually turn up useful results.

95. Good listeners.

96. Parks.
