Summer Challenge week 2

Sunday, June 27, 2010

week 1: 181.4 lbs
week 2: 176.8 lbs
total loss this week: 4.6 lbs!!!!

week 1: 245.4
week 2: 244.1
total loss this week: 1.3 lbs!!!

I was so surprised when I stepped on the scale... I was shooting for 2 pounds and ended up dropping almost 5. This is the highest number I have pulled since I started losing weight when I began. Hubby's weigh in was not as great. He was hoping to pull closer to what I did and ended up a little under a pound an a half. I was proud of him because I know any loss is a good thing and recently every time he steps on the scale its a gain. I told him to be proud of himself but I think hes got the mentality of "why am I working out if Im not going to lose weight" which is easy to get and can destroy any hope of farther weight loss. So Im trying to push him along and hopefully next week he will have closer to 2 pounds at least. Thats what I am hoping for again.

This weeks goals for me:

Exercise 5 days at least 30 min each day emoticon
(I did elliptical for 20 min & 40 min on two days and the other 3 days I did biggest loser workout videos or self magazine videos all of which had strength training)

drink 2 32oz bottles of water each day emoticon
(My skin has really started to clear up as a result)

Get up early and to be early each day emoticon
(I got up early and went to sleep early maybe two days this week... the rest of the days I ended up sleeping till my normal 7:30 or 8:00. I made sure to get my workouts in still on the days I got up late though, while the baby was napping.)

Get in extra activity emoticon
(I made sure to get in extra activity by walking in place in front of the tv whenever I watched any of my tv shows. I ended up putting in an average of 40 minutes per day doing this, and got to catch up on a few shows I really like on hulu)

Hubby's Goals

Exercise 4 days a week emoticon
(I was so proud of hubby, He has not exercised since we started trying to lose weight back in jan 2009. I dident have much hope for him actually doing it durring this challenge. He worked out all 4 days as planned though with very little nagging from me and as a reward I made him chocolate protien shakes after he was done) :-)

Eating within calories emoticon
(this was actually more my accomplishment than his... he eats what I give him and usually dosent snack at all. I found this very hard though because he needs so many more calories than I do for one so I was trying to get extra snacks in him and maybe give him a little extra at meals. My biggest problem was tracking his food on the spark people nutrition tracker... its a pain enough to track my own food, but tracking his food and my food was a nightmare. I did not enjoy this at all. I know that I could try and get him to track his own food... but thats just not in the cards. He will eat what I give him and not complain but he flat out refuses to track his food... I know it would be hard for him anyway because i make the food, so I know whats in it... He dosent.)

no popcorn emoticon
(no movies this week so it was easy on him... next week we will most likely sneak out sometime and watch twilight... and then we also want to see the last airbender when it comes out too (we have followed the cartoon so we are invested lol) ...... so we will see how he fairs when we go out.)

I rocked this week and hubby did great too. Im in the 170s now... that is so awesome. I am very happy and hope to keep the momentum up and do just as well next week.

The food tracking sucked this week. I just cant keep up with tracking his huge amount of calories and mine at the same time so I am going to stop using the spark people tracker for a while and switch back to weight watchers points. I used the points system for the first year of my weight loss and lost a little under 80 pounds. Hubby did the same thing and lost the majority of his weight doing that too. I tracked our points for yesterday and found that I could do it much quicker so thats what Im gonna do.

I would eventually like to go back to weight watchers (I quit because I couldent afford it) and lose the rest of my weight and gain a lifetime member status. that would be nice.

So we will see how that goes. Maybe the points will work out better for hubbys weight loss and be easier on me.

I hope everyone has a great upcomming week and really steps it up to meet your goals. I know I will!!! :-)

~ Jess

I so agree with the water thing - my skin gets so much better! You'd think that alone would be reason enough to drink more water, but I still have to talk myself into it :)

I read your overview and the last couple weeks. I have been looking for something to get me up and moving during my break, and I think I'm going to devise something like this to get me out of the 200's. Thanks so much for the inspiration, you're doing awesome already!

Friday, June 25, 2010

I woke up this morning and I was not planning on getting up... I was gonna sleep in. I had to pee really bad though because of all the water I have been drinking. I thought I was getting in 8 cups before... I dont think I was though. I thought the glass I had been drinking out of before was 2 cups but it wasent, only like a cup and a half. and I dident get 4 full glasses in sometimes. I started using my nalgen bottle though, which is 32oz and just focusing on drinking 2 of them a day. I have made my goal 2 days in a row with an extra cup of tea to boot... so thats 9 cups of water each day. crystal clear pee lol.

enough about that.... anyway.... I got up and went to the bathroom... hubby was in the shower talking to me. I was looking in the mirror while I was washing my hands and noticed how slim my upper arms were. I lifted my arm up and tightened my muscle up and it was looking pretty good. Hubby then stepped out of the shower and I said look at my arms and showed him and he said something (I cant remember what... prob something along the lines of, they are definatly not like they use to be).... and I smacked the bottom of right my arm to show him my "batwing" was much smaller now. (for anyone who dosent know, batwing is that hangey skin under your arms.... which I have been plauged with since losing weight)....

IT DIDN'T JIGGLE! My mouth just kinda fell open and I started smacking the bottom of my arm again. "where did it go???" "look at that sh*t!!)

I started looking in the mirror inspecting my arm and found that when I tighted the muscles in my arms the bottom dident jiggle at all.... and when I dident tighten them, it only kinda moved once on the right side just because I hit it and on the left it jiggled a very small amount.
Before when I would do that it would look like a jello mold... would swing back and forth a few times before comming to a wobbly stop.

I know some of you might be saying .... what do you expect, you have lost a crap load of weight, you should have expected this to happen. But you see my arms were so bad before...(Im talking I shrunk and the skin stayed the same size).... that I thought they would always be like that and I would be stuck in sleves forever... unless of course I got surgery which I would not be able to afford.

I was so happy I desided not to go back to bed.

If my arms can tighten up like this though, that really gives me alot of hope for the rest of my body (chest excluded... they are too bad) .... My stomach and my thighs are kinda bad as far as loose skin goes but if my arms can go from where they were to where they are now then maybe there is hope for them. I know my stomach will always be stretch marked but I can deal with that.

A big thank you to The biggest loser the workout.... the strength portion really kicked my arms into shape. :-)

Before - around 200 pounds

After (so far) - 176 pounds

I really like grapenuts but they take a little getting use to, hubby dosent like them because they are not sweetened... they are really great for you though because they are pretty much all natural.... there is only 5 ingredients in them. I am really trying to buy food with small ingreident lists and stop eating all the highly processed chemical filled food thats really not good for you.

20 week summer challenge ~ week 1

Sunday, June 20, 2010

~Goals for this week~

Drink more water - I did ok on this goal... I know I could have done better but a few days I prob dident get my full 8 glasses in emoticon

Go to bed early - Every night this week I was in bed between 10:30 & 11pm ~ emoticon

Get up early - I got up between 5:30 & 6am every day... except friday when I slept till 7am and dident get my workout in.... I made up for it though by getting up at 6am on saturday and working out emoticon

Workout 6 days - I have started to do my biggest loser workout videos again, I forgot how much they kick your butt ~ emoticon

Include more activity into my day to day life - I tried to incorporate more movement into my normal routine... Like for instance when I put the kids to bed for a nap I usually watch 40 minutes of shows on RoKu / Netflix instant play..... so instead of sitting and watching I walked in place for 40 minutes. Or when Im doing the dishes I will put on some music and dance a little while Im doing them. ~ emoticon

Eating ~ I did well with both tracking my food and staying at the low end of my calorie range this week. emoticon

Weigh in emoticon emoticon

Hubby start - unknown (dident weigh in)
Me start - 180.1

Hubby week 1 - 245.4
Me week 1 - 181.4

So I did all this good stuff this week and still managed to gain a little over a pound.... grrr. I figure it has to do with my TOM though and maybe some extra water weight. I am hoping for a much better week next week and hopefully I will make up for what I dident lose this week and get myself back on track. Hubby did his first weigh in yesterday so at least he is not ahead of me at all, so I dont have to worry about that.

I am going to really work my butt off this week and have a good number next.

Its on! emoticon

20 Week Summer Challenge ~ Overview

Sunday, June 20, 2010

Well I desided to give myself a little push in the right direction I am going to challenge myself to bump up my workouts and really crack down on my eating to try and lose 30 pounds in 20 weeks. Thats roughly 1.5 pounds per week I will need to lose to meet my goal, which I think is reasonable. If I can lose 30 more pounds I will be right around my goal weight and that will mean I will be at a healthy weight for the first time ever in my life! Very exciting. :-)

I have some how got my husband to aggree to do this with me... wow. He has been eating better with me since I started this lifestyle change of mine back in Jan 2009 but has never really jumped on board with exercise or anything. He lost 80 pounds the first year just because he was eating better with me but his weight loss has since stalled and he has lost and regained the same 5 - 10 pounds for the first part of this year.

So this is what we are doing.... we both set goals for ourselves that we hope to reach on or before October 29th..... 20 weeks from last week. We have both also set rewards that we would like.... and who ever meets thier goal first gets the reward that they chose. His reward and my reward is something that the other person can use as well but of course we are going to want the reward that we chose.

To buy our rewards we are going to start putting a little bit of money in our savings account every week. That way by the time we meet our goals it wont be such a strain to purchase whatever reward we get, which means we will be more likely to actually get it instead of putting if off cause we dont have the money.

I think it will be lots of fun and give us both some extra motivation to meet our goals.

My Goals

Lose at least 1.5 pounds a week
Lose a total of 30 pounds
Go from 180lbs 150lbs
Go from a loose size 16 Jeans to a comfortable size 12
Get into a routine of waking up early and going to bed early
Drink more water
Incorporate more activity into my day to day life and still get my regular workout in as well

My Reward if I reach my goal first

Trip to Carowinds (local theme park) : Saturday October 30th 2010
New Outfits for both of us

Hubby's Goals

Lose at least 2 pounds a week
Lose a total of at least 40 pounds
Comfortably wear size 38 / 40 pants and large size shirts.
Workout at least 4 times a week.
Stop eating popcorn L

Hubby's Reward if he meets his goal first

Playstation 3, with extra controller, blu-ray remote, one game, and HDMI cable.

That's so funny. I just did my long range goals to October 30th-when my daughter gets married. It's really just a date to work towards. But I was not as nearly ambitious as you are. I aimed for 20 lbs only because I am the slowest weight loser on the planet. I'm not how much more I could bump up activity, but I could give it a whirl. I feel like I have the eating mastered.

Those size 12 jeans seems like a good goal. Go for it! emoticon
