Week 2 - Day 2 ....... Sunday out

Sunday, March 14, 2010

I went out with my family this morning. I went to take back some flax seed that I bought at vitamin world.... I got it a few days ago and then while in walmart yesterday I discovered that they carry a bag of flax seed 3 times as big as the one I bought at vitamin world for $3.50.... I paid over $7 for what I had already bought. OMG!!! Luckly I had not opened it yet so I took that back today and got my money back. Im going to start putting flax seed in smoothies and in other stuff so I can get some more Omega 3s in my diet.

We went to Ikea to get a high chair for lyra because her current high chair is about ready for the trash. We found a pretty decent one for only $19.99.... I love Ikea prices.... they have such cool stuff and its all so cheap. We stopped in thier caffateria after we were done shopping for lunch. Me and hubby split a meatball plate and I got some steamed veggies too. The kids shared some macaroni and cheese. I figured half of the meat balls would still be slightly bad but I would just eat light at dinner. I come to find out that 6 meat balls is only like 200 calories! wow, that was a real shocker for me. In fact when I looked up the nutritonal info a little while ago I found that most of the food they serve there is really not that bad. Spliting the lunch with hubby I dident eat anymore than I normal eat for lunch.... go me!

I did not get my exercise in yesterday. I procrastinated all day long and by the end of the day It just was not happening. I figure though that I got in alot of extra activity durring the week, so missing yesterday is not going to kill me.

I have been thinking that I might try the south beach diet for a while. It might be nice to change up how Im eating a little bit, plus even though the first 2 weeks are pretty low carb, phase 2 seems like a really healthy way to eat... not too much different from how Im eating now but maybe the structure will keep me on track. It never hurts to try something and if I dont like it, I know that I am in a place where I am not going to revert back to my old ways. I still dont know, I need to do a little more research and get rid of (eat) the 2 cartons of fat free icecream I bought this past week lol.

If you want to do something different, you ought to consider checking into an anti-yeast diet. When I strictly followed it, I dropped over 30 lbs in a matter of weeks without trying. There's something about yeast that hinders weight loss. The premise is pretty simple. Anything that supports yeast growth is eliminated from your diet. That means sugars, cheese, yeast breads, liquor/beer, leftovers, etc. I never felt so good as when I was on that diet. It is somewhat restrictive as wheat is also something that discouraged...I wasn't fond of some of the other types of grains for bread. Me, I'm a white bread eater. I like cracked wheat bread, but I hate whole wheat because it makes stuff taste sweet. Who wants a sweet meat sandwich? Not me! LOL!

I need to start focusing on consuming the lower end of my calorie range vs. thinking I am ok with the upper end. Otherwise my progress is going to grind to a halt and I don't want that. I've got to get a handle on my fat intake as well. That and my sodium. This past week I've been all over the place with both of them. We've been out to eat a lot tho. This weekend was a salt fest of sorts. Not intentionally, mind you, but there it is. We had a lot of tomato dishes. Next time we go to the store we will get low sodium tomatoes and broth.

I haven't yet tried any smoothies. I'm just not into that kind of thing, unless it's a blizzard from DQ!! LOL!! Somehow I don't think that's the kind of smoothie you're talking about! LOL!!

I totally understand about the exercise. It's a good thing for me I'm using the tracker, cuz if I had my way, I would have skipped yesterday. But, since it was there in black and white, I made myself do my workout/exercises so I could honestly say I met my goals! That's a good thing! I sweat so much it looked like I had just washed my hair. That's a good thing, too. Just goes to show you how much fluid I was retaining!

Hope you have a great week and that you get rid of that ice cream in your freezer. Me, I made peanut butter cookies tonight, plugged the recipe into the calculator and haven't had any more because I found out they were 110 calories a piece! Will have to let my nephew take care of them....it's one of my favorite recipes...next time I guess I will make them smaller so I can have a couple and not feel like I'm breaking my diet! TTYL!

I've never tried the south beach diet, but I think you're looking at it in a healthy way. It's a way to frame your healthy eating, for a little while at least. I've never really thought of using diets in that way. Best of luck!
PS I am so jealous of your ikea visit. I've never been. I just drool over the website.

the meatballs @ ikea if it is like it used to be they sell those meatballs there at the store. they have them for swedish meatballs but i used them in tomato sauce when i had them. even the frozen meatballs they sell at regular supermarkets are low calorie for 3 meatballs. i usually make my own meatballs when i get a big thing of ground beef and make my meatloaf with it.

Weigh in & Measurments!!! ~ Day 7

Friday, March 12, 2010

Well I dont work out today... ahhh thats a good feeling. I am quite proud of myself for this week though... I exercised my a$$ off this week and dident skimp on anything that I planned for myself, in fact I went above and beyond by doing an hour more exercise then I planned for.

Today is my weigh in day and I was hoping for big numbers with all the work I have been doing. In the end I pulled a 1.3 pound loss. hmm, well its not 3 pounds but I will take it and I have to realize that I have been doing that biggest loser workout video all week and in one video there is alot of weight training and in the other, even though its cardio there is alot of squats and lunges which works your leg muscles.... So I am assuming that I have prob gained a little bit of muscle this week.... I have to account for that.

1.3 is great though. I currently weigh 195.1 .... thats the lowest I have been so far... every number below 220 is the lowest I have been since I was in high school. I remember the last time I was 195, I was in 11th grade and I weighed myself and then looked at myself in the mirror and I said "Im not that bad.... Im kinda cute".... I was finally kinda likeing my body for the first time ever.... then I met my first serious boyfriend who treated me like crap and ballooned up to 300 pound in a year. grrr! Oh well, I cant blame this on anyone eles and I cant change the past. I just have to change who I am now. .... I only wish my body looked now like it did then when I was 195... totaly not the same body, lol. Oh well... hopefully all the crunches will help that.

You know I have noticed that my skin is firming up some since starting to do more exercises with weights. My arms in particular are less loose, which gives me so much hope... they were at the point where when I put down my arm in a tank top, the skin wrinkled up at the bottom :-P blah. Its dosent really do that now... Hell yeah! Happy me.

Ok I took some measurments today and compared with last month the numbers are looking really really good. It just goes to show you that you cant use the scale as your only measure of success.

Weight last week: 196.4
Weight today: 195.1

Measurments 2/4/2010 VS. 3/12/2010

Neck: 13.75 Neck: 13.70

Bicep: 13.25 Bicep: 13

Forearm: 10.5 Forearm: 10.25

Chest: 41.5 Chest: 40.25

Waist: 39.75 Waist: 39.5

Hips: 47.5 Hips: 46

Thigh: 25.75 Thigh: 24.25

Calf: 16.75 Calf: 16.5

Not bad at all.... I was really shocked at the difference in my Thighs... must be all the squats and lunges. lol.

Well I hoping to stay strong with the exercise this comming up week and have another excelent week like this one. Maybe without all the eating out though .... I prob would have pulled a bigger number if I had not gone out to eat twice last week.

I hope everyone eles has a great weigh in day this week and really rocks it this comming week. Have a great weekend.

yay! I am so happy for you!!!! Those measurements are GREAT! I need to update mine... I have been watching the body fat percent on my scale, it helps. I didnt really lose a lot of weight for a long time, and then I saw that I had actually lost body fat despite it!
But yes, I will catch you around girl! Great job, congrats!!!!
God bless ya-

I noticed that the weeks after I have really intense workouts like running or weight lifting that I always weight the same or slightyl over during my weigh in. However the next week I end up with a bigger number. I think your body holds onto more water while it repairs itself.

personal war on hydrogenated oil

Thursday, March 11, 2010

well the last few weeks of shopping I have been trying to cut out foods that I normaly buy that have trans fat. These food manufacturers are sneaky too because you cant look on the nutritional label under "Trans Fat".... because they are not required to put a percentage on foods that have traces of the fat in them.... all those traces add up though. You have to look on the ingredient list for "partially or fully hydrogenated oil". you will find alot of your favorite processed foods have this ingredient in them. emoticon

Anywhoo, last saturday when I went shopping I looked at every single food label that went into my cart and did not buy anything with hydrogenated oil.... except my salad dressing which I am going to have to search for a replacement for because I know I cant keep eating this junk. I was so sad to find out that quite a few foods that I normaly buy had this stuff in it. I will come up with a full list of what I have had to replace but here is a few things.

* Quaker mini chocolate drizzled rice cakes - 100 cal pack
* Could not find a replacement so just dident buy anything

* Hidden Valley Light Ranch (Nooooooo!!!)
* I hate kraft - wishbone does not have light ranch at least not at walmart - Newmans own dident have a light ranch either. I love ranch... what am I gonna do???

* JIF Reduced Fat Creamy PB - (I thought I was being a choosey mom emoticon)
* Replaced with Naturally More PB w/ omega 3 and Flax seed... interesting taste but not nearly as sweet... I added a little splenda and the kids like it .... happy me

* Mission 98% fat free whole wheat tortillas
* Could not find any tortilla that did not have hydrogenated oil... had to end up replacing with Flatout Flatbread wraps... they dont taste the same but I like them and will get use to flatbread burritoes lol.

* both - blue bonnet light margarine & Country Crock Light margarine
* Replaced with smart balance - I got the walmart generic... taste is not the same as country crock and blue bonnet though :-(

They are the big replacements this week... I also was trying to avoid High frutose corn syrup, but that is a much much harder thing to avoid... like every single cereal I normaly buy has it... even though I dont get cereal that is really considered high sugar... even unsweet stuff has it in it.....

You should have seen me cheering in the canned veggie isle though.... I was like canned peas "Hell yeah, Peas - Water - Salt... the end" ... canned corn "Corn - Water - Salt.... Hell yeah!!! " ... It was funny.

~ Jess

PS.... Im looking for a good online health food store. If you know of one please clue me in.

fortunatly alot of the stuff I use is regular.... like oatmeal, I just get the quick oats in the big container... They are so cheap and Im finding after about 2 years of using them, my 5 year old wont eat instant anymore because its a mushier consistancy. lol. Sometimes you just feel acomplished as a parent lol.

I totally hear you on that Jess.
I have been limiting my hrydronated oil consumtion for about a year now, and that crap is in absolutely everything that tastes good haha.
I keep hearing conflicting stories howevr... Itrs bad for you... its fine in moderation.

I just try to limit it as much as possible, its like a losing battle though. There should be a law or something against putting that stuff in foods, since it is a contributing factor to Obesity in this country.

best thing I can suggest is stay away from any "flavored" items like any flavored oatmeals for example. get the regular oatmeal, and add your fruit to it.

Good luck in that fight :)

Laughing here at the Sneaky Girl Scouts comments.. My hubby just bought 4 boxes of the things, and now they are sitting on the shelf.. Now the temptation to have just one has passed by seeing how sneaky those girls can be:)

I too am having a time trying to find variety, and it seems one has to totally go vegetarian in order to give up all that sneaky and bad stuff.. So sad to it cost more to eat healthy that to eat junk.. You'd think it would be the other way around.

Good luck at finding replacements:)

Make your own food and add cold pressed oil efter the dish is taken off the heat.. Heating oil makes our healthy oils go saturated..
As for cereals cornflakes, rice bubbles make a musli and oats make into porridge. I add my fruit...

I'm in the battle too and it SUCKS. My favorite is that it can say "ZERO TRANS FATS" on the box, and that means it just has under 0.5 gram! You have to look for "NO TRANS FATS" for it to be really free of trans fats.

Girl Scout Cookies say "ZERO TRANS FATS" but oh no no no! They have hydrogenated oil. Sneaky girl scouts!

talk about not keeping up with it - days 4, 5 & 6

Thursday, March 11, 2010

well I completly forgot to blog on tuesday and wendsday... here I am today catching up. I have not been blogging but I have been doing really well in my efforts to stick to scedualed workouts and eating right.

Day 4 - tuesday

I was going to only do ellipitcal on tuesday while watching the biggest loser but I felt so good about the last few days of getting up early and getting it done that I desided to do my biggest loser stregth video that morning. That day I got out of the house and had a picnic in the yard with the kids and then after my hubby got home we all went to the park, kicked the ball around the feild and played on the playground. I love when the weather is nice and I can spend it outside with my kids, its nice that we are a more active family now. That night I was going to do 30 minutes on the elliptical but I was so inspired by watching the biggest loser that I desided to do an hour.... if they can pull a truck or workout 8 hours a day then I can do 30 more minutes!

Day 5 - wendsday

Again got my workout in early and did really well eating for the rest of the day. Not really much to report. It rained all day and was pretty gloomy.

Day 6 - Thursday - Today!!!

Well I have not gotten my workout in for the day yet. The baby got up a bit earlier than I expected and I dident get a chance to fit it in. Im hoping that once Aiden goes off to pre-school at noon and she goes down for a nap then I will be able to get it in then. I will update this later today after I get it in.

Weigh in is tomorow and I am hoping to pull at least 2 pounds with all the work I have put into this week. Im crossing my fingers. Even if I pull less though Im gonna hang in there, Im really looking more at inches durring the next few weeks anyway. on the messuring tape and in how my pants fit... I will post my numbers in another couple weeks.

~ Jess

*** UPDATE *** I got my workout in for the day - Biggest loser strength workout while the baby was taking her nap... woo-hoo! I did not want to but I got it in... Im feeling pretty proud of myself!

Monday Morning ~ Day 3

Monday, March 08, 2010

I got to bed by 10:30 last night... I usually puck around untill at least midnight.... I was determined to get up early this morning though. I set the alarm for 6:31... the baby woke me up at 6:30, so I got her a bottle and changed her and then grabed my shoes, got a glass of water and popped on my video.

I have been considering getting the P90X system because I hear that you can acheive awesome results with the program. My husband had one of the disks in his stuff so last night I got him to pull it out... it was Kempo X, the cardio DVD to the series.

I put it on this morning and started going through the stretch and warm up... well about 3 minutes in it was pretty hard and I was having problems so I though... hmm if I am having problems with the warm up I am not going to be able to do the workout... so instead of wasting me time and going through half the workout and tiring myself out as well as frustrating myself I desided to turn it off and do something eles.

I pulled out my biggest loser dvd. It has 4 workouts on it, your suppose to alternate between the low impact cardio and strength workouts for weeks 1 & 3 and then between the high impact cardcio and boot camp for weeks 2 & 4. I did the low impact cardio today... I like the video because I can do it but its a challenge, it gets me sweating and breathing hard and I can feel it the next day... but I dont die doing it.

I am all done now with my workout. I plan on having another excelent day with my eating. I did really well yesterday. I even had to drive to go pick up my son from my x husband (6 hour round trip drive) and I dident eat fast food or over eat on unhealthy snacks. I packed something and stayed on calories for the day.

I am doing very well so far and hope to have really good results after a month or two, even though I dont think I will be doing P90X any time soon. lol.

I have not taken a look at it yet.

Way to go! Starting off the day right always helps a lot! And I hear you about P90X - heck, I just tried the 30 day shred and was so sore for three days that going up stairs was painful. Pointless if a short workout puts you out of commission and keeps you from being able to do cardio while you recover, right? I'm glad you had the foresight to stop and keep with something on your level! I learned my lesson :)
