I joined SparkPeople on November 8, 2011. It was the day after my younger brother and his girlfriend announced to the family that they were engaged. With a September date, I had around 10 months to lose as much weight as I could. At that point, I would have been the heaviest in the wedding party (including the groomsmen). My goal was to change that. I knew I'd still probably be the heaviest bridesmaid, but I'd be mortified if there wasn't at least one guy bigger. Even if the guy was bigger because of muscles and not fat, I'd take it. Anyway, long story short, I did great! I was motivated and committed and lost about 60 pounds!! Although there are things I can pick out that I don't like about my body I am very happy with how I looked in the wedding pictures.
Unfortunately, after the wedding, I lost my motivation and let my emotional eating creep back into my life. I love my brother and sister-in-law very much and am extremely happy for them. However, I would be lying if I said it hasn't been hard. I am 34 (five years older than him) and not at all where I thought I'd be in life. I always imagined I'd be married with at least one, if not two, kids by now. Whenever I get upset about where I am in my personal life I turn to food. I say it's because it comforts me, but that's not true. Most of the time, I feel like s*** afterward. I have put on at least 20 pounds since the wedding. I know that this is unhealthy and not at all where I want to be in my life. If I'm not careful, before I know it, I'll be back to where I started. That's not what I want for my life! However, I've just not been able to get myself started again. I've sporadically checked into SparkPeople, when for months, I was faithful checking in multiple times a day. Until about two days ago, my page still had a Thanksgiving theme. I guess I've been waiting for that "thing" that will make me wake up and start living for my future. I think it finally happened.
Four days ago I heard that a friend I grew up with had gone into cardiac arrest the night before. Although we had lost touch since our high school graduation (except through Facebook) he was like a second brother to me while we were growing up. He is 35 with a wife, two little boys, and a baby on the way. Thank goodness his progress is looking good and he is slowly getting better!! It is definitely an eye opener for me. I don't know why it happened to him, but he is overweight, so that could easily be a contributing factor. Even if it's not, it has still served as a wake up call for me. If I keep doing what I'm doing that could easily be me. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in women. If nothing else, I am increasing the risk that my life could be much shorter than it should be, and I want to be around for as long as I can. Right now, I am vowing to make healthy changes in 2013 to get the body and life I want and deserve!!

Never Quit Pledge
Sunday, April 29, 2012
Today, I promise I will not quit.
I pledge that no matter, how many ups and downs I pass through, I will continue on my journey.
I pledge to make a NEW START today, and forgive myself for my past, and to stop being so critical of myself.
I pledge to take control of myself, to stop making excuses, and stop blaming other people or situations.
I pledge to treat myself as I would my best friend, because that is who I am.
I pledge to stay in the race and to be a WINNER!

I "borrowed" this list of questions from a fellow SparkPeople team member.
1. WERE YOU NAMED AFTER ANYONE?
Yes ~ My parents were originally going to name me Stephanie. My mom was a teacher and one day got a new student whose name was Tiffany. Mom instantly liked the name, went home and asked dad what he though. He liked it too. Therefore, I became Tiffany instead of Stephanie.
2. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU CRIED?
Today ~ I was listening to the radio and the song "Riding With Private Malone" by David Ball came on. There hasn't been a time I've listened to the song and not cried.
3. DO YOU LIKE YOUR HANDWRITING?
Yes, especially my printing. I get a lot of compliments when I print. When I take my time I also like my cursive.
4. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE LUNCH MEAT?
5. DO YOU HAVE KIDS?
Nope, hopefully one day though. Right now I spoil my best friend's kids.
6. IF YOU WERE ANOTHER PERSON WOULD YOU BE FRIENDS WITH YOU?
I'd like to think I would. I try to be fair with everyone, open-minded, and non-judgmental. I also have a good sense of humor and like to laugh.
7. DO YOU USE SARCASM A LOT?
Nooooooo, never. Did ya catch the sarcasm? ;)
8. DO YOU STILL HAVE YOUR TONSILS?
9. WOULD YOU BUNGEE JUMP?
Never ever! I am afraid of heights. Well, actually, it's the falling to my death that I'm really afraid of. Due to that, bungee jumping just wouldn't work out.
10. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE CEREAL?
Peanut Butter Cap'n Crunch. Yum, could eat the whole box (which is why I hardly ever buy it).
11. DO YOU UNTIE YOUR SHOES WHEN YOU TAKE THEM OFF?
Nope, only untie them if I can't slip them back on.
12. DO YOU THINK YOU ARE STRONG?
Physically ~ Yes. Mentally/Emotionally ~ Working on getting there.
13. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ICE CREAM?
I have a three way tie between chocolate with peanut butter swirled in, extreme moose tracks, and black raspberry.
14. WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU NOTICE ABOUT PEOPLE?
I notice how people interact with others ~ whether they are polite and pleasant or rude and obnoxious.
15. RED OR PINK?
Pink ~ It didn't use to be, but now it's pretty important. My great-grandmother, grandmother, and mother have all had breast cancer.
16. WHAT IS THE LEAST FAVORITE THING ABOUT YOURSELF?
I really don't like the fact that I am overweight. I also don't like the fact that I am still struggling with negative self talk.
17. WHO DO YOU MISS THE MOST?
My (maternal) grandpa. We were extremely close.
18. WHAT IS THE PAUL MCKENNA TECHNIQUE THAT YOU NEED TO WORK ON THE MOST?
I've never heard of Paul McKenna?
19. ANY TATTOOS?
Yes ~ I have a palm tree with chinese symbols on both sides. I love palm trees. They are beautiful and strong. The symbols stand for peace and serenity. It reminds me to have peace with the past and look for serenity for the future.

30. FAVORITE FOOD?
Do I have to pick just one? I make a mean Chicken Marsala (if I do say so myself) so I'd pick that.

45. DO YOU HAVE A SPECIAL TALENT?
I'm not real sure. Maybe creating things with crafts??? To steal an answer from the person I borrowed this questionnaire .. I can drive a stick shift without any problems. Oh, and I also know a lot about NASCAR and and other sports. I don't know if the majority of those would really be "talents" though.

The DONE Girls have started another challenge. This one is called the Red Hot Heartbreakers Challenge, and I am excited to get it underway!! We just finished the Frolicking Summer Goddess Challenge, and I am excited to report that I did really well with it. Over the course of the challenge I lost 30.9 pounds! My goal was to lose 29. Hopefully, I'll be just as successful with this one! Our first mini challenge is to write a starting blog that we can come back to at the end of the challenge to see our progress. So, here we go ........
Total Inches: 199.75
Bust : 44 Hips: 53.25 Waist: 45
Right Arm: 14 Right Thigh: 28.5 Right Calf: 15
Start weight ~ 232.2
One Voice Day (7/25) ~ 226.2
Relaxation Day (8/15) ~ 220.2
Labor Day (9/3) ~ 215.2
World Heart Day (9/29) ~ 207.2
Total loss aim ~ 25lbs
I'll be honest, I'm not excited about this part. I have not posted a picture of me on this site yet because I've been embarrassed. I know, it's a silly reason. We're all on here to lose weight and support each other. We understand body image issues and insecurity. However, I have still struggled to take the plunge and post a picture. Part of the mini challenge this weekend is doing something outside of our comfort zone. Posting my picture will be one of those things. This picture was taken about two weeks ago.
Our assignment for this part is to post a picture of someone who has the body we want, someone that we think is "just right". I am posting two. The first is of a plus-size model. Plus size, really?? To me, she is healthy! I love how she has a little meat on her bones.
The second is of Ricki Lake. Unlike a lot of actresses, she actually knows what it's like to really struggle with her weight. I am posting a picture of when she was on Dancing With the Stars. Not only did she look beautiful, but I loved the confidence she showed on stage in those skimpy outfits.
We have been asked to evaluate our eating habits. The question presented was, "Are you eating for the body you HAVE right now or the body you WANT?" Ever since joining SparkPeople eight months ago, I'd have to say I'm eating for the body I WANT!! I will allow myself those little indulgences every once in awhile. For example, today I had chocolate. The biggest thing that has changed is that those indulgences are, in fact, every once in awhile. I believe, to be successful, that I can't totally eliminate everything that is bad for me. I know myself and know I won't stick with it if I do. Another thing that I have done is try to make the majority of my meals at home and eat as little processed food as possible. A reduction in carbs and sodium has also been a big part of my plan. I cannot take credit for the picture below, but just had to post it. It's such a cute idea if you're having a party or just trying to get your kids to eat fruit.
We are supposed to do something outside of our comfort zone (or something we've never tried before) twice this weekend. The first has already been done. See picture of me above. I have had Coach Nicole's 28 Day Boot Camp DVD for at least three months, but have yet to pop it in the DVD player. This weekend, I plan on checking it out and seeing how I do with it.
In closing, something to think about and remember:

July 1st will mark the end of a 17 week challenge I've been a part of with the DONE Girls. The Bahama Mamas have rocked it and are ready to rock the next challenge!!
To finish up the SASS challenge, our last "assignment" is to reflect on the past 17 weeks. Wow, what can I say .. It has been wonderful! I have "met" some really awesome and supportive ladies through the Bahama Mamas team. This is my first challenge with the Mamas, and I was not able to check in on our team page as often as I would have liked. However, that didn't stop the support coming my way. It was great help in getting through.
I had an overall goal of losing 34 pounds during the challenge. As of my week 16 weigh-in, I am 0.7 pounds away from making that goal. Ooh, I am so crossing my fingers that I have had a good week so far and that I will hit my goal. Wish me luck! Throughout the past 17 weeks, I have had some ups and downs. Thankfully, most of them have been ups (in which the scale went down). Woo Hoo!! I love these challenges with weekly accountability. They help keep me going. Although I hate posting when I have a gain, because I hate letting a team down, these challenges help keep me from dwelling on it and continuing a downward spiral.
The second part of our SASS reflection is to "make a plan for how to achieve even more going forward." I've already completed the first part, and that is to sign up for the next challenge. I'm ready to Rock It!! My plan/goal moving forward is to check in on the team page more often. I am also planning on earning as many challenge points each week as possible. That's one thing I didn't do as well on in the SASS challenge. There were very few weeks where I earned all 100 points. On top of all that, I plan to stay positive. I'm not going to let a bad day or a gain get me down. I am DONE!
