Still at It

Tuesday, October 28, 2014

I am still doing the Whole 30 but have been away from internet for a week. I will be without again next week.

I am on day 13. Still haven't weighed as instructed but my pants are fitting better and my joints are feeling better. Finding most days are going pretty easy even being on vacation. Staying positive and making this work!!!!!

I have a plan

Tuesday, October 14, 2014

Oh look at me. Its been a little over a year since I made my last blog. This time of year is always the time I reset things. Time to start again.

I am going to start the Whole 30 which is committing to Paleo for 30 days. Like with everything Vegan/vegetarian worked for me until it didn't. I figure if I can do vegan for 18 months I can do anything for 30 days.

Got on the scale this morning and I need a new battery. Of course it one of those little round ones and we have none in the house. Goal for today is to get new battery, clean out the refrigerator and not to eat everything I need to throw away.

It feels good to have a plan!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like a plan girl! Dust off the scale.. insert new battery... face the music.

Thanks for the sweet page comment by the way. You can soooo do this. I chose the atkins plan cuz I thought it would best help my blood sugars (which it is)... Once you get past the first few days... you will be on your way.

Lets Roll!

PS Track your food!! why? So I can stalk your log! (g)

    Way to go, Loretta!
I had lost 26 lbs of ground and did my first Whole30 starting September 1st. It was remarkably smooth sailing once I got into it and could shake the sugar. Eat those healthy fats, they are good for you and keep you full. I didn't eat any carbs but fresh vegetables and one piece of fruit per day. Sweet potatoes and butternut squash in moderation. Tons of vegetables, but you are used to that from your vegetarian living. It's the prep work that is always needed, but that's why they call it fresh!
Get that scale battery, get a good starting weight and GO!! It's so freeing to get back on track. (I dropped 16 lbs and I think a good 12-13 of those were REAL pounds, plus a little water at the start. Also dropped a pant size and my night sweats, which had been gone for ages but had roared back to life with all the sugar, have totally gone away again!

YOU CAN DO THIS!! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Still struggling

Thursday, February 21, 2013

I am frustrated and still struggling. I think I have been eating to few of calories for over a year and my body is frozen at this weight (when it is not adding pounds). I have been consistently at 1200 calories so I am upping it to 1600. I have been walking 2 to 4 miles daily and using a stair stepping machine plus weights. I am also not stepping on the scale. I am assuming with adding calories I may first gain some weight before I loose. So no scale for 2 weeks. Oh did I mention that my doctor told me if I am not loosing at 1200 calories to cut down to 1000. I did this for 2 weeks and gained weight. FRUSTRATION with my doctor and my weight. I have been eating vegan for 16 months . I have recently added eggs and nonfat greek yogurt back in and have had fish twice trying to up my protein. I am having to rethink everything and just trying to get to a healthier weight.
As I ramble on my daughter just called and mention a book called "The Plan" where you are allergic to some foods. something else to think about.

I have been tracking so feel free to look at my food and any suggestions would be appreciated. I don't alway track the weights but all other exercise.

I am hoping just blogging will help me get around this.

I forgot to mention it is really hard adding more calories in. I am trying not to add junk but healthy food. It just seems wrong to eat when you are not hungry.

I feel you, I did the same thing, when I lost weight I was eating an unsustainable low calorie diet, and I regained. I feel kind of lost, I dont want to drop my calories to 1200 or less again, but dont seem to lose on more. I hope you find your change.

I'm 5'2", so I have to be very careful with my nutrition and calories if I want to see results. Lately, I've been calorie cycling (eating 1100 for two days and then 1600 every third day). This seems to be working. Also adding in more lean protein (hard to do for those of us who prefer plant proteins) and upping my fiber intake. Maybe this is something that would work for you!

Wow, indeed very frustrating for you Loretta. In my humble opinion, it sounds like your body has gone into starvation mode and your doctor suggesting you cut back another 200 calories to my mind would only worsen the problem. Doctors actually spend very little time in med school learning about diets and losing weight and unless they specialize in bariatrics they may actually know less than you about the subject.

And it's a well-known fact that what works for one may not work for another as we are all individuals. I think upping your calories is a good idea actually. I'm familiar with one "live-it" that recommends increasing your calories for about five days and then dropping back to your original amount - it wakes the body up and you start to lose again. Once they get to their goals, they do this once a month to maintain. I've not tried it myself, but it has worked for some people I know.

There are all kinds of diets out there about reactive foods and eliminating them from the diet, some permanently, some only temporarily, but again they don't work for everyone. This looooonnnnngggg journey we're on, I think is all about learning what works best for us as individuals. If something isn't working than change it up. A year to stay on something that isn't working is too long a period. I would think that after 3 -4 months and you're not seeing any change in your weight then it's time to shake things up again.

I took a peek at your food tracker and it appears that you eat very healthy and get lots of exercise, but it hasn't been working so making s0me protein additions is a good idea. Cutting back on grains and increasing protein works for a lot of people, but I don't believe in eliminating grains altogether.

Have you seen this website, the tool is pretty cool.

I bet if you put in your stats your caloric needs would be higher than 1200 or 1600. I was really surprised when I just did mine. Check out their suggestions under Weight Plateaus down the page - food for thought anyway.

Wishing you well as you try to sort this out for yourself. And come by the team to get your frustrations out or to maybe get some other ideas or just for some plain good old support! We're here for you Loretta and are cheering you on!!!

Here we go again

Wednesday, January 02, 2013

As the new year starts and I look where I have been and where I want to go I realize I did so-so. I could be upset by that or I can be okay with that. I think I am okay. I lost at the beginning of the year and after a very, very, stressful year I basically maintained. Yes I did gain a few pounds but not many by my usual standard. Yes the stress munchies did hit but I kept it to veggies. Veggies saved me I have no doubt about this and it is a lesson learned. Did I forget it Christmas week. Oh yes and the sugar crept in but I am working on getting it out of my system now. Other lesson learn--I need the exercise to loose, feel better about myself and just feel better. Stress or not the exercise must be fit in.

It is time to get serious instead of being half hearted at this. Its time to put myself first again. We are hoping to be at the cabin a lot this year and I want to be in the best shape possible. I love the outdoors and I want to do more than read a book in it.

I will need all the support I can get so I hope you stop by often. Let me know if I am messing up.
