Still struggling

Thursday, February 21, 2013

I am frustrated and still struggling. I think I have been eating to few of calories for over a year and my body is frozen at this weight (when it is not adding pounds). I have been consistently at 1200 calories so I am upping it to 1600. I have been walking 2 to 4 miles daily and using a stair stepping machine plus weights. I am also not stepping on the scale. I am assuming with adding calories I may first gain some weight before I loose. So no scale for 2 weeks. Oh did I mention that my doctor told me if I am not loosing at 1200 calories to cut down to 1000. I did this for 2 weeks and gained weight. FRUSTRATION with my doctor and my weight. I have been eating vegan for 16 months . I have recently added eggs and nonfat greek yogurt back in and have had fish twice trying to up my protein. I am having to rethink everything and just trying to get to a healthier weight.
As I ramble on my daughter just called and mention a book called "The Plan" where you are allergic to some foods. something else to think about.

I have been tracking so feel free to look at my food and any suggestions would be appreciated. I don't alway track the weights but all other exercise.

I am hoping just blogging will help me get around this.

I forgot to mention it is really hard adding more calories in. I am trying not to add junk but healthy food. It just seems wrong to eat when you are not hungry.

I feel you, I did the same thing, when I lost weight I was eating an unsustainable low calorie diet, and I regained. I feel kind of lost, I dont want to drop my calories to 1200 or less again, but dont seem to lose on more. I hope you find your change.

I'm 5'2", so I have to be very careful with my nutrition and calories if I want to see results. Lately, I've been calorie cycling (eating 1100 for two days and then 1600 every third day). This seems to be working. Also adding in more lean protein (hard to do for those of us who prefer plant proteins) and upping my fiber intake. Maybe this is something that would work for you!

Wow, indeed very frustrating for you Loretta. In my humble opinion, it sounds like your body has gone into starvation mode and your doctor suggesting you cut back another 200 calories to my mind would only worsen the problem. Doctors actually spend very little time in med school learning about diets and losing weight and unless they specialize in bariatrics they may actually know less than you about the subject.

And it's a well-known fact that what works for one may not work for another as we are all individuals. I think upping your calories is a good idea actually. I'm familiar with one "live-it" that recommends increasing your calories for about five days and then dropping back to your original amount - it wakes the body up and you start to lose again. Once they get to their goals, they do this once a month to maintain. I've not tried it myself, but it has worked for some people I know.

There are all kinds of diets out there about reactive foods and eliminating them from the diet, some permanently, some only temporarily, but again they don't work for everyone. This looooonnnnngggg journey we're on, I think is all about learning what works best for us as individuals. If something isn't working than change it up. A year to stay on something that isn't working is too long a period. I would think that after 3 -4 months and you're not seeing any change in your weight then it's time to shake things up again.

I took a peek at your food tracker and it appears that you eat very healthy and get lots of exercise, but it hasn't been working so making s0me protein additions is a good idea. Cutting back on grains and increasing protein works for a lot of people, but I don't believe in eliminating grains altogether.

Have you seen this website, the tool is pretty cool.

I bet if you put in your stats your caloric needs would be higher than 1200 or 1600. I was really surprised when I just did mine. Check out their suggestions under Weight Plateaus down the page - food for thought anyway.

Wishing you well as you try to sort this out for yourself. And come by the team to get your frustrations out or to maybe get some other ideas or just for some plain good old support! We're here for you Loretta and are cheering you on!!!

Here we go again

Wednesday, January 02, 2013

As the new year starts and I look where I have been and where I want to go I realize I did so-so. I could be upset by that or I can be okay with that. I think I am okay. I lost at the beginning of the year and after a very, very, stressful year I basically maintained. Yes I did gain a few pounds but not many by my usual standard. Yes the stress munchies did hit but I kept it to veggies. Veggies saved me I have no doubt about this and it is a lesson learned. Did I forget it Christmas week. Oh yes and the sugar crept in but I am working on getting it out of my system now. Other lesson learn--I need the exercise to loose, feel better about myself and just feel better. Stress or not the exercise must be fit in.

It is time to get serious instead of being half hearted at this. Its time to put myself first again. We are hoping to be at the cabin a lot this year and I want to be in the best shape possible. I love the outdoors and I want to do more than read a book in it.

I will need all the support I can get so I hope you stop by often. Let me know if I am messing up.

Ethan finally made it home. He is still tender, no activity for a month and then re-eval. Low fat diet. No school until next week so we are staying home together.

Here we go again

Saturday, September 08, 2012

Since Wed. I have been in the Sacramento are--
My oldest grand child (almost 10) slipped off the monkey bars when he was swing SW backwards and wrapped himself over the ladder. Knocked the wind out of him, passes out, and vomited. After numerous test it was determined that he had bruised his pancreas. He has been on IV's and no food. They are hoping to add juice back in today (Sat) but depending what the pancreas does will depend how fast they proceed and bow much longer he is in the hospital. Oh yes -- he got moved to the third hospital yesterday. It's pretty rare to have this kind of injury in a child.
We were told last night no bikes skateboards or any activity he might fall for 3 months. Did I mention he is almost 10. I think the new bike sitting in our garage will wait for Christmas and it will be a really long 3 months. We are hoping food goes well. He has been a real trooper. I am helping with his sister and back and forth to the hospital. Not much exercise so maybe October will be my month

That sounds scary, I am surprised there are not more monkey bar injuries, I can remember swinging upside down and hanging from my knees. Maybe trade that bike in for an ipad, certainly would take the sting out of 3 months of inactivity.
Hope all goes well.
Cindy

I hope everything turns out okay!

I predict lots of movies and video games in his future. : )

Or bubble wrap. But I would think that would encourage him.
