It's a Boy!!

Wednesday, June 17, 2009

Today was a very exciting day. My second grandchild was born. Michael Timothy 8lb 3oz and 18 1/2 inches long. Mother and baby are doing just fine. I am thankful that he will never know me as Fat Grandma. Tonight I am watching my 3 year old granddaughter. Thank God I have the energy to get through it all. Life is so good.

My visit to LA Fitness

Sunday, June 14, 2009

Ok so I got a post card in the mail a couple of weeks ago inviting me to the new LA Fitness in my area. I thought I would check it out. I wanted to see what kind of water fitness classes they had. I go to the local YMCA now but there is nothing fancy about it. So of course I had to put up with a sales man trying to sell me on signing my money away. I have lost 137 pounds and I am feeling pretty good about myself. But there I felt fat and old compared to all of the other clients. So bottom line is I am sticking to the YMCA where I don't feel self conscious about my lumps and bumps. This way I can have the big bucks to buy clothes instead of paying the fancy gym to make me feel like crap.

Good idea. I'd stick with the Y too. Keep your money for all the new clothes you need. Woo hoo for losing 137 pounds.

Good for you, have to feel welcome where we train.. I felt like crap at my old gym so found another and have never looked back.. I also go used to using charity shops when going from 306lbs to where I am now, I find completely new clothing for next to no money.

Good for you! I think you made the right decision. You have a lot to be proud of and feeling the least bit diminished when you are at a gym, for heaven's sake, is the last place that should happen.

Good for you in sticking with the Y!! How's a person supposed to work out in a place that not only costs more than it's probably worth, but makes you feel uncomfortable!

Good job in sticking to your guns. I do go to LA fitness but there are only a few that I will go to. The one right by my work is filled with perfect people who spend more time chatting than actually working out. I am thankful that the one I go to has about 95% of normal people attending... It makes it much easier to go.

I just read your Spark page and you have done so well! So who needs the fancy gym?? I once visited a new one in the town I used to live in, owned and touted as a "wellness center" by a local hospital. After the grand tour and sales pitch, I looked around at the skinny minnies in perky outfits and went back to my old, comfortable, run down gym!

Be true to you!

Getting Serious

Thursday, June 11, 2009

Well my vacation has officially started. The last few weeks I have felt like a hypocrite because I haven't been exactly been following my plan. My goal is to lose 20 pounds over summer. I have been getting into some old habits in the last few weeks such as grabbing crackers and chips. Although it is not large amounts, I know that these are triggers for me. I have been eating too many carbs lately and I think that is why I have been very hungry and I am not satisfied. I also find myself looking for something sweet. So I have decided to take a couple of days to get back on track. I will be drinking protein shakes and eating veggies. Then I will get myself on a routine of eating again. I will have to totally change my schedule to being at home with much more access to food. It is so much easier for me when I am working because I just pack all the food I plan to eat and that is it for the day. I also have a hard time drinking all of my water when I am at home too.
I know that drink a liquid diet isn't the best way but I am hoping that it get me out of the habit of doing so much mindless eating.

Sounds like a great plan and you will get back on track. I figure as long as I am moving and counting what I eat I should be okay. All we can do is take it one day at a time and one step at a time. Take care and have a healthy weekend.

Good idea to shake up your habits to get out of some eating habits and to get back on track. We have to continue to find the path that works for us, it is all trial and error. You will lose your 20 pounds, one pound at a time. Good luck!

You can do it. I am little concerned about summer eating too, but I also figure I will have more time exercise. You'll pull it together, and lose that 20 pounds in no time. You'll look fabulous by time you go that reunion.

I am with you on this one. Looking over my food log I can see that I have had far too many carbs, and I am really starting to believe that they make me go from bad to worse. I am going to isolate myself at the cottage and just take "clean" foods - dd and I are following the south beach diet, so there won't be any fruit either for at least a week. My daughter is driving me up and then bringing the car home, so I will have no option but to eat the good foods that I bring. There is a spring there so I will have ample spring water for decaf teas and I am really looking forward to it. It will be a huge relief not to have to worry about not eating right even if it's because I put myself in a spot where I have no other choice.
I also think that for you following a liquid diet of protein shakes and veggies for a short time may be just what you need. We all have our own ways of telling our bodies that it's time to change course and head for a different shore. You are having such a successful weight loss journey that you know what works for you and you can now trust your instincts on the right way for you to get back on track.
I hope that you have a good week and I'll touch base with you when I get back.
P.S. I stil don't have any popcorn in the house and probably never will LOL

Girls Night Out

Saturday, June 06, 2009

I had so much fun yesterday. Six of us went to Los Angeles to see Dirty Dancing on stage. As the day went by I had noticed several different things about myself that I can say are the result of my new lifestyle changes. First of all, there wasn't any anxiety about how I would manage getting around. Before I would have had a difficult time getting in and out of my friend's van and also being strangled by the seat belt once I did manage to climb into the back seat. Of course there would have been worry about how much walking I would have to do to get from the parking lot. Once inside stairs and seating would have been painful. Sitting in a seat with the armrests digging into my butt and worrying if I was spilling over into the next to me was always embarrassing.
Now I can say that I can just go and have a great time. Just like everyone else.
It felt fabulous. The other change I noticed is that in spite of me being pretty cheap when it comes to eating out . I only ate until I was full and left the rest. That is a big change for me because before I would have made sure to polish off everything on my plate. You know I have a hard time wasting food, I still do, but I am working on that one. Last of all after seeing myself in the group picture, I can say that I am proud that I am not twice as big as everyone else anymore.

Isn't it exciting to not worry about walking around, fitting in a seat belt, being squished in to a seat and being able to just enjoy yourself? Congratulations for your success!

Prom 2009

Wednesday, June 03, 2009

I finally went to a prom. Well sorta, Today was prom at the recreation center for the developmentally disabled. I work there in the afternoons in an afterschool program for disabled teens. Their school doesn't have prom so we have one for them at the center. It is the first time in I have gotten so dressed other then my wedding. It was really fun to see the kids having such a great time. Their parents and siblings were also invited. We had a dj and also a band. They ate, they danced, and visited with former particitants who have moved away. Here are a few pics to share with all of you.

i'm so happy to hear they had a prom for the special needs students. my niece is special needs and it's so important to me that she has as many 'normal' experiences as possible. even if she doesn't fully understand.)
