Well, here we are – a whole new year stretching in front of us, a blank page waiting to be written upon!! :o) There have been some mighty big changes in our lives...last year saw me getting laid off from Company A after almost 10 years. Yikes!! I was one of the lucky ones, though, because I got a new job right away at Company B. I worked there from 05 February 2007 through 02 January 2008...just under one year. Wondering where I work now...? Well, that’s the biggest news...I started a new (dream!) job on 11 January 2008!! Yes, yes – changing jobs is big news. But the really big change involves WHERE I’m working – on 05JAN08 hubby and I waved good-bye to sunny San Diego and set sail (figuratively, in our land yacht) for Atlanta, GA!!!
There – let that sink in for a minute. :o) Yes, we really did move cross-country!! And that brings us to the second hoonjy change in Bill and Laurie’s life – we are now home OWNERS!! Woohoo!! We are just tickled pink...this is by far the biggest (and best!) investment/move we’ve ever made. We are so blessed to be doing it together!! :o)
I’m hoping to get back into my Sparkpeople routine as soon as possible...it’s been hard, though, since our whole lives have been turned upside town since I went on my interview in November!! I’m kind of thinking it might be a little “easier” to lose weight since my body’s been at this “plateau” for a while now...we’ll see. For now, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it!! :o)
I sure hope God is blessing each and every one of us – the blessings are there, they’re just not always as tangible. :o)
Love & hugs!
Laurie

Hi guys!!
Two birds with one stone...short story is that yes, I took the job in Atlanta. :o)
The long story goes something like this...this time last year I was getting laid off after 10 years at the same company. I was one of the lucky ones who found another job right away - although the money was slightly better it was actually a step backwards for me in terms of the work itself.
I got an email from a recruiter (God bless monster.com!!) with a subject line that read "Would you consider Atlanta?" After discussing it with hubby we decided it was worth a phone interview. That went rather well so we decided what the heck - go ahead and fly out there to interview. Uh-oh...that went REALLY well...now what?! :o)
We've both lived in San Diego for as long as we can remember (1965 for him, 1978 for me). Our families are there, along with all of our memories, but one of our biggest dreams of buying a home was NOT going to happen there (the 2-bedroom condo wewere renting was selling for $450,000 – yes, for a freaking condo!!).
Anyway, we flew out at Thanksgiving to see if hubby and I could picture ourselves living down South. Funny thing...we could!! So, as Seinfeld would say, yadda yadda yadda we’ve moved from San Diego to Atlanta and we close on our house at the end of January!! :o)
Did I mention that it’s half the price of that condo, twice as big, and less than 5 miles from work? :o)
GOD IS SO AWESOME!!!

First day on the job today...thank goodness I think it went well!! They definitely have me jumping right in, though - forget the niceties of HR, they already started my training!! Hubby dropped me off and I got a litlte exercise 'cause I had to walk to/from the other building today. All in all it was a good day - but I'm wiped out tonight!!
We went out to dinner (and I ate wayyyyyy too much - can't go to THAT restaurant too often, that's for sure!). Then we went to Sears to start pricing appliances - dang, those things cost some serious bucks!!!
Will keep y'all posted. :o)

I think the interview(s) went pretty well - the flights there and back, not so much!! Actually, truth be told, the FLIGHTS were fine...it was getting on them that was a bit of an issue.
Got to the airport in San Diego at 6:15 for a 7:00 flight - figured that would be fine, with no bags to check. I went to check-in and she told me the flight had been "cleared" - and she couldn't put me on it!! She put me on the 8:30 flight (interview was at 9) and told me I could "try to get on at the gate." Fortunately the guy was able to get me on the plane...sheesh!!
The flight was uneventful - no food available, though, so boy was I glad I brought a granola bar!! Scarfed that puppy down and hoped it would hold me over as there was no lunch listed on my itinerary. :o) Got a cab and arrived at the lobby 10 minutes early - the drive from the airport was less than 20 minutes! Convenient!
Ran the gauntlet of 7 different folks and discovered the last one had ordered us lunch. Very thoughtful but NOT what I would have picked - tomatoes and spinach with mozzerella cheese (not melted) on foccia bread. The Coke was Diet, though, which was good...! :o)
Dashed back to the airport where I was afraid I'd be denied a second time (less than an hour before flight time) but got checked in with no worries. Treated myself to a nice warm cuppa Mocha (bad Laurie!) and a cookie (VERY bad!) - but the cookie was awful and I only drank half the coffee. Got on the plane and sat on the tarmac for a good 30 minutes while waiting for it to be our turn. Then the pilot gets on and says that, despite being next in line, we're going back to the gate - because of the air conditioning!! Hmmm...methinks they just didn't want to tell us about the brakes/wing/gremlins!!
So 2.5 hours later we got on a completely different plane and headed for home without further ado. Since I got home so late we had takeout instead of the celebratory dinner...probably fewer calories, not to mention cheaper, but also a big disappointment! :o(
So now we wait to see what happens...apparently I'm the most qualified but they have to weigh-in the whole relocation-thing. Hubby and I are not at all sure we want the higher cost o' living...but we could be bought. :D
Thanks for listening!! Love you guys!

I haven't been around much lately but I reckon y'all understand. :o)
Let me start by saying the health insurance industry SUCKS!! (Present company excluded, should any of you work for them...lol)
We spent 4 hours trying to get into Urgent Care last Friday (the 21st). Long story there...the doctor they assigned us to isn't taking new patients (nor is anyone in his "group") and, unfortunately for us, none of the Urgent Cares in San Diego would take that "group"!!! Our insurance itself is fine - but because we're affiliated with that health group we're restricted where we can go. They finally told us on Friday we could go to XYZ Urgent Care. Of course, at this point, my dear hubby had HAD IT. "Take me home," he said. So of course I did. :o)
He was feeling better on Saturday but, come Sunday morning, he was in BAD pain again so we decided to go the ZYZ UC we were told to go to. Well, guess what? We get there and, sure enough, "we don't accept THAT group." GRRRRRRRR!! So I made him go to the Emergency Room. :o)
Six hours and an IV later, with prescriptions and doctor's note in hand, we got to go home. Fortunately there's nothing "serious" wrong - hubby has mild scoliosis (curvature of the spine) and apparently some related arthritis. I think the biggest issue is that his muscles were in spasm.
So he's home resting and I'm not nearly as worried about him as I was BEFORE I knew what was going on.
If you could continue to send prayers/good thoughts for his healing, and for our insurance nightmare to work itself out (i.e., we don't need a big bill but we DO need to get him into the regular doctor's office), that would be wonderful.
Thanks for letting me bend your ears (eyes??) for so long...love you guys!!!
