Cats in Winter Get A New Habit!

Saturday, March 02, 2013

emoticon I look forward to it!
There are a lot of options open for my here, but my #1 concern is getting 8-10 waters in per day.
Although I did very well last week, I am already struggling today, feeling stuffed and not wanting anything, water or other. So the habit I will work on throughout the 8 week Winter into Spring Challenge is 10 waters a day. emoticon emoticon emoticon

For me I downed two glasses of water in the morning. And two in the evening. Then I spaced a glass throughout the day.

It will get easier, but yes soemtimes it can feel like a chore.

Spruce your water up with lemon, fruit, or something along those lines to makei t more fun.

Give yourself a dime for each water you drink. Its so little, you won't notice it much but that adds up to about $30 a month. I bet you could find something fun to do with an extra $30 of spending money!! Get yourself a clear piggy bank so you can see your dimes starting to add up. You could even just keep saving them till the end of the year, that would be $360 worth of dimes!

I've found that putting my water in a glass helps me to drink more as when it is in a bottle I just sip what I need and not actually drink very much. Yesterday, though, I found that if I put a straw in my bottle, I was drinking my water very easily. Best of luck, great new habit to form. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Today's Spark Breakfast

Friday, February 22, 2013

Banana, 1/2
Refrigerator bran muffins, 2
Tea, 6 oz.
Greek Yogurt, 6 oz.
Walnuts, 0.25 oz.
Tea, 6 oz.

I skipped the Smart Balance. I modified the refrigerator bran muffin recipe, removing the sugar and Splenda, and adding cocoa, Xylitol, and Stevia. The calorie came to 5 more for two.

So why am I sharing my breakfast, which after all is right from the tracker? This is my visual commitment to stop doing my own thing and stick to the plan that is supposed to work for me.

Best wishes Cats in Winter! Saturday is right around the corner.

That meal looks very delicious! Thanks for sharing. I need to look that recipe up for the muffins. That's my great niece on my page background. Mykah is her name. She's 8 months old born in June. She's gorgeous! I've never met her in person...she's back in my hometown of Tulsa. Thanks for your sweet words about her! :)

Cat's in Winter Assignment 2

Wednesday, February 20, 2013

Here is my attempt to find and list why I am on this journey, making a record that will help me stick to it when the times get tough. Well the times got tough before I even started the journey: My computer crashed, and although running is so out of date it could easily happen again. So my time online is limited unless I get to the library.

What exactly do you want to change? I want to lose weight and lower my cholesterol. In the process, I want to gain a new self image and an increasingly cheerful confidence.

How do you want to look? I want my stomach to look flat when that side view is shot : )

How do you want to feel? I want to wake up with energy and motivation. I want to push past fatigue to vibrancy.

What things will you be able to do in the future with a slimmer healthier body? I want to be a motivation to my family who also struggle with extra pounds.

What is your biggest challenge? My biggest challenge is getting in my 8 waters If I start the day with coffee. I also get in an exercise slump if I give myself an inch.

List other things you might like to change: I'd like to fasten my eyes on the goal and press through to it without taking a break.

I struggle with patience. I know I am making good choices. I know I am getting more active and fit. But somedays I have that I want it NOW mentality! I want to be the person I envision in my mind's eye TODAY! I have to talk myself back to reality and remind myself that I didn't get to this place overnight. The return journey back to the real me is going to take some time.

There are always tinned and frozen veg. Just as good as the fresh stuff and they can be zapped in the microwave in next to no time.
Try toast with 2 scrambled eggs with dried herbs or a tablespoonful of ready grated low fat cheese mixed in, half a tin of tomatoes in juice with a helping of frozen mushrooms heated in the tomatoes and half a teaspoon of tandoori powder in the mix if you want a spicy flavour. Add a piece of fruit for afters and you will have had 3 of your 5-a-day in one speedy meal.
You can probably produce this in not much more time than it takes to boil a kettle of water to make a mug of instant coffee or low calorie cocoa.

GOODWITCH333 2/20/2013 10:42AM

My biggest challenge is getting enough vegetables in a day, which is very odd for a former vegetarian. I think partly it's because, deep down, I'm lazy ( in the kitchen. The rest of my life I work hard) and bored... too lazy to cook every night and too bored with un-cooked veg. It's something I really struggle with. emoticon

2013 Winter 5% Challenge Assignment 1

Tuesday, February 05, 2013

Do you have your gym clothes, sneakers, water bottle, etc. ready to go? Absolutely! It's always ready to go!

What is your exercise plan? Until this cnallenge starts I am following the 28 Day Bootcamp challenge. I do a 10 minute toning video and 30 minutes of cardio videos daily.

Do you know what diet you will follow? Found some recipes? Have you stocked up on the foods? I use the Spark menu plan for diabetics and print the menu and grocery list every week. They include the recipes needed to follow the daily diet.

Do you know how to connect with your team mates? I don't know which team I will be assigned to, but I know how to blog, read blogs, visit threads and visit pages.

Did you put your Winter 5% Challenge Commitment on your page? Yes it is. Right now I weigh 173 and hope to lose 8.5 lbs. My computer is checked in with the Geek Squad, but I'm at the library printing my exercise plan for the week emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon I love libraries! They come through in a pinch.

Thank you so much for commenting on my blog! Unfortunately, my computer is so old, visiting this site puts it in danger. It's adobe and java that let infections in. I'm keeping my account and plan to update fitness at the library weekly. Maybe I can get a new computer in summer. Have a great week! Shirley

WUB January 19

I just finished week three of the Official January Jumpstart Fitness Challenge at
www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/groups_i
ndividual.asp?gid=54344

This week's goals were:

1. 8 waters! emoticon emoticon emoticon

2. Do the daily toning video. emoticon emoticon emoticon

3. Do cardio five days increasing the length or intensity. emoticon I did 30 minutes of cardio in 3 ten minute sessions daily for 5 days.

4. Get in 5 or more fruits and veggies daily. emoticon I added a lot of grapefruit and celery.

5. Plan next month's personal challenge. emoticon I am well on my way to creating a more orderly menu plan with increased veggies. Next month I will join the Spark menu challenge.

Week 4 Action Plan goals are:

1. Those 8 waters. emoticon emoticon emoticon

2. Do the daily toning video. emoticon emoticon emoticon

3. Choose three of the videos to repeat once or twice the same day. emoticon

4. Do 30 minutes of cardio on 5 days. emoticon Here is where it is getting rough. My self wants to say I did great and deserve a break.

5. Set long-term exercise goals. emoticon If I make it through this week, I can do it again. All things are possible with God.
