It's day 18 of my 1/2 prep and I needed to get a long, outdoor run under my belt. Previously my longest run prior to my 1/2 prep was 4.4 and I can't tell you the last time I ran that distance.

Last week I did a 5 miler on the treadmill and it wasn't too bad. I needed though, to get outside, in the weather and on a surface that isn't a treadmill. So today, in 33 degree weather I ran. It was a beautiful day and sunny at least, so I layered up and went out the door. I knew the route I planned to take and I DID IT! It actually was a pretty easy run. (Never thought I'd say that! and I even enjoyed it!)

I have been loading new songs onto my ipod over the last several days and had forgotten some of the ones I added so it was fun when new songs popped up. Kinda like my own little 80's party going on. The Alvin and the Chipmunk's You Spin Me Right Round was a fun surprise as I had completely forgotten about getting it for the boys and deciding to add it to my playlist. It was a good reminder to that I try to be healthy not only for me, but for them as well.

The best part though is my time. I ran this in 63 minutes. According to my treadmill, I can only get 5 miles in in about 60 minutes so now I know my treadmill is off. I have been really concerned about my time since according to the treadmill I run 15 minute miles! When I walk on the treadmill I don't get there much slower either so I knew there was a problem. In reality, it is closer to 10 minute miles. That is unbelievable! I associate that with REAL runners.

So, today I ran a 1/4 of a marathon and I feel confident I will be able to complete the whole thing.

And your treadmill must be dragging a bit and nothing is like being ooutside running because that really shows what you are made of. I would if my knees werent bad but now I have to stick to the treadmill to run. Which i havent in while becz of the workouts i am doing right now.

And i love the chipmunks!!!!And I actually have the original vinyl in a 45 by Tears of Fear!!! Still love it!!!! Yes, i have a turntable still too! emoticon

Nobody cared so I did my thing

Thursday, February 09, 2012

It could have been bad, I overslept AGAIN today! Two days in a row and I did not get in the run I needed for my 1/2 training. A meeting after work put me home late and then of course there was homework with the kiddos. However, I did it anyway. We got homework done and I made a dash for the treadmill. Just a few minutes I told myself. Maybe 2 miles. Two miles later, hubby was still in the barn, the kiddos are playing and NOBODY CARED THAT I WAS ON THE TREADMILL! So I didn't get off, I just kept going and I got in an hour and 4 miles! WOOHOO! Totally didn't expect to have a great long run tonight. I'm so glad nobody cared! emoticon emoticon

That's incredible. Everybody cared, and were content to do their own thing. Good choice!

Great job, isn't it great when others are doing their own thing so we can do out. That is a great Non Scale Victory.

So here's my new do...

Saturday, April 09, 2011

Two weeks ago I chopped off my hair and today I got the highlights done. The pictures are fuzzy because my phone does not email pics well but here it is anyway. Oh and, it's awkward to smile and take your own picture so it's not my favorite but oh well...

Absence isn't always bad

Thursday, March 03, 2011

So I got my fast internet a couple of months ago and I think I've been on line less since then. Not because it's fast and doesn't take FOREVER to do something but I've just been online less. That is because I've been busy moving! Too busy to sit and do internet stuff. That's not a bad thing. Moving is a good thing so if you are wondering where I am, I am missing you too, but apparently I don't have time to sit down!

However, when my internet would not open today, even though I was connected, that really caught my attention this morning. All seems to be fixed now though - huge sigh of relief!!!

So will try to get on here a bit more regularly again but if you don't see me, know I'm racking up those fitness points instead! emoticon

Yes, Ms. Thora, I -have- missed you! I've stopped visiting Facebook as frequently as I used to, but I'm still a pretty good Sparker! Of course, that would be a different story if I worked full-time, had two young boys--active boys, a full social life, AND was a runner! LOL Just as long as you check in on a somewhat frequent basis to let us know you're okay and happy! {{{Hugs}}} Susy

Back to my normal routine

Sunday, January 02, 2011

Well, vacation is hours away from ending and real life begins again. It's been so nice to be home and it's so nice to be able to get up and get a workout in without watching the clock. I need to keep my motivation going so need some creative ways to talk myself out of bed in the mornings to get my work out in before work. Any ideas??? The really bad part is sometimes I don't even remember that I want to exercise in the mornings when the clock goes off. Then when I don't get up in time to exercise I have already "failed" for the day although I try not to let myself "feel" like a failure. It's WAY to early in the day to have already failed! " At least I always have the next day to try, try again! : )

I joined DailyMile.com with some of my running buddies. We upload our workouts every day, and trade attagirls (on good days) and good-natured ribbing on those "oops...slept in" days! I hate looking like a slacker when I know they are up and at em!

I know, Thora, we are sometimes really hard on ourselves. I have one tiny suggestion if you want to try it. It's something I do myself every now and then. (I'd do it more frequently, but I forget, forget, forget!)

Once you're in bed and about to go to sleep, let the last words you tell yourself over and over what it is you want.

Me: I tightly clench my jaws and thus wake up in the morning feeling awful.
So one of the things I sometimes do is go to bed and self-talk that I will be relaxed and stay relaxed the whole night. I will wake up feeling refreshed and happy that I slept in such a relaxed state. (You get the idea.)

Other times, if I feel like I might be getting sick, I tell myself how wonderful my own body is to heal itself during the night and that I will wake up refreshed and ready to go.

Maybe you could try happily visualizing the wonderfulness you'll feel when you wake up to exercise in the morning?

Sometimes it works for me; other times, I can't say that it does--or else I'm feeling better than I WOULD have if I hadn't of done it. emoticon
