Will the sickness ever end?

Sunday, March 14, 2010

Last Tuesday my little one was sick with a stomach virus. Fortunately, she rebounded well and only had to miss one day of school. That was Tuesday into Wednesday.

Then, it was my turn. It hit me hard. I started getting sick early Friday morning. Thankfully, the girls had Friday off school for Parent/Teacher Conference. And thankfully, DH got off work during the middle of the day and went to the conferences in my place. I was still sick into Saturday and was still having residual sickness this morning. I'm still not back... maybe 75%.

Now, my older DD is sick. Same thing! She is going to have to miss her Voices practice tomorrow as well as school, of course. Since I always drive her to school on practice days and we are the first house on the route, the bus skips us on those days. So, DH will have bring the little one to my sister's to catch the bus with her son.

I'll be glad when all this passes.

Brad was put on Hospice Care...

Friday, March 12, 2010

From what all I can gather, Brad has been put on Hospice Care. He has no insurance because he had to leave his job due to the pain he was in and this is the only way he can get the medicine he needs to control his pain. He is currently at home, and he will be able to get the medicine at a local cancer center from a doctor who comes up from Memphis.

Our graduating class is doing our best to rally aroundhim. We are planning a benefit dinner and silent auction. One member is trying to organize a concert (by a rap band who does a lot of charity work) to raise money. Others have mentioned opening a custodial banking account for his young son. He is a single dad.

I've spoken with his aunt. She says things are not good at all. He thinks he has given up hope because of the back and forth stuff that the doctors in Memphis put him through while he was there. One day they'd give him hope and the next day they'd say there was nothing they could do for him. One morning a doctor came in promising to put in a shunt to start therapy, and the same afternoon his 'boss' came in and said it wasn't happening. (probably due to his having no insurance). I am praying that our pulling together for him will give him hope to struggle through. As many of you have written, our days are only numbered by God!

Again, I thank you all for your prayers on his behalf.

As for hospice.... I think you should look them up and see what their purpose is. This should help you to understand a little better.
You can also try caringbridge.com and see if they have any type of suggestions for donations. They are intended for you to post and update the status and condition. Friends and family can also post stories and pictures. This may help to cheer Brad up by seeing all this.

I will send up prayers.

Another way to raise money, check out www.chipin.com My niece is using it to raise money to go on a mission trip this summer. You register with them and then people can go to his site and donate any amount of money (even $5). Everyone that knows him could then get the word out about the site via facebook, twitter, myspace, even church bulletins. The money could be used for medical expenses or for his son. Just a thought to consider...prayers.

Brad will start treatments next week.

Thursday, March 04, 2010

Thank you all who have been praying for my friend, Brad.

According to his uncle, Brad is in a hospital in Memphis. He is to start radiation treatments (he thinks) next week.

Brad has had back pains for over 2 years and was treated for everything from pulled muscles to herniated discs. Only after his cousins did internet research on his symptoms did they find the possibility of pancreatic cancer. They took the list to his doctor, who finally had tests run. I don't know why this wasn't something the many doctors he saw ever thought of.

An update on gran...
She is still nursing the foot with gout, but she has been walking on it even without the aid of her walker. The swelling still needs to completely go down; however, it is much better.

Again, thank you all for your continued prayers.

My moms symptoms were shoulder/back pain but it seemed like it was bothersome but not anything she could put her finger on. It is a tough one. Glad your friend is trying treatments.

Asking prayers for Brad...

Monday, March 01, 2010

Brad is a school chum of mine. We went to school from Kindergarten to 12th. We recently found out that he has pancreatic cancer. The doctors don't give him much hope. He is only 39.

I'm so sorry. I recently lost a former classmate to the same thing, only he was 60. You'd think with all the advances being made today, doctors could find a way for a 39 year old to beat this disease. We'll pray that they will.

You and Brad will be in my thoughts. When my mom passed last fall a pancreatic mass was found, but it was not determined to be the primary cause of her loss. Even though this particular type of cancer is rough to deal with, keep in mind how long Patrick Swayze hung in there.....

1_AMAZING_WOMAN 3/2/2010 1:21AM

Eleven years ago I was given approximately 3 months to live (with severe congestive heart failure and pulmonary hypertension). They later changed that to 3 to 5 years, and later they changed it to "at most live to 60 years old". I will be 59 next month, and though my health is really bad I am still living, and, exercising. I still have dreams I want to fullfill.

So, don't always go by the prognosis the doctors give. They aren't God.

Gran needs prayers for easing her pain

Saturday, February 20, 2010

I need everyone to pray for my grandmother. Her foot started hurting yesterday and started swelling last night. She could not get out of the bed this morning. We went to the church building and borrowed the wheelchair so she can get around.

I was able to get her in to see the doctor today. Thankfully, her doctor was on call in the office for morning hours today. My DH was wonderful and took her so I did not have to try and man-handle her getting in and out of the van. The doctor had blood taken to test for gout and put her on a very strong NSAID for arthritis.

She is in so much pain. She wants more medicine. Of course, I cannot give it to her. I had to lock up the OTC meds (tylenol and icy hot) so she cannot use them. I've already gotten all her prescription medicines locked up so that she doesn't overdose. I had to start locking it up because she forgot what day it was and took a second dose of her medicines. But now, she doesn't care if she's already taken the medicine. She wants another dose because of the pain. I had to tell her "no", and now she is mad at me for not doing more for her. But, I cannot. I don't know what else to do short of taking her to the ER and them putting her in the hospital (which I doubt they would do anyway.) I could put ice on it for the swelling, but I don't know if that would help. Plus, she is already "freezing" (she stays cold) although it is in the upper 70's in the house. The ice would make her colder.

Just please pray for her pain to go away. She is ready to give up. Thanks.

as always you and grams are in my prayers. I understand what you and she are going thru, about 6 months ago my dad had a major gout flair up. it took about 2 weeks to ease his pain. We researched the net and found a strict diet which he follows almost religiously, he said this was the worst pain he ever endured.
I will pray for an extra dose of strength for all of you.
God bless you and your family!

Father God, I pray that you would help this grandmother and ease her pain. I pray that you would show the doctors what to do in treating her. Please protect and keep her safe. I also pray for her emotional state and ask that You bring peace and hope. Heal her by Your Power. Bless the family and give them strength in dealing in this situation. Supply every need according to Your riches in glory. In Jesus name, Amen.
