Walking Again?

Thursday, March 19, 2009

Okay. So, I walked for 16 minutes yesterday morning. Not very long, I know. But, I've not really walked a good hard walk in over a year. It rained today, so I'm looking forward to getting back out tomorrow morning... though it is supposed to be in the 30's. I'll bundle up and push through it. I am going to be on our church's Hometown Walk of Hope team and that walk for cancer is this June 6. So, I need to get to work!

Just a note that I have to add....
I'm praying for my Spark Friend, Larry, who lost his wife this week to her long illness. We are praying for you, Larry.

I started back on my exercise bike at only 5 minutes. Something is better than nothing.

Feeding the Hungry

Saturday, January 31, 2009

Roads were cleared and our church has been helping those without power by providing a hot lunch for the last two days. We are providing food again tomorrow and plan on a location in the south part of our county that we know at least 40 people will be waiting to be fed. This area was so hard hit. There are many trees down and electric poles broken. Some peole are being told it will be another week before they have power restored. Kentucky above us... it's so much worse off.

This week has been very daunting and sobbering. If an ice storm can affect us this badly, what will happen when "the big one" hits. "The big one" I'm referring to is the 100 year earthquake. Reelfoot Lake which borders Obion and Lake Counties in Northwest Tennessee was formed by a series of large earthquakes in 1811 and 1812. If that one comes, bridges will be gone too. How will we ever get through it.

But for now, we have thousands without power with no way to get a hot meal. Our church and many others are providing that for them. I just thank GOD that we can.

Ice Storm and Gran updates

Thursday, January 29, 2009

Well, we've had quite a couple of days here in my household. There's been a bad winter storm that has come through and really hit Tennessee and Kentucky. We were one of the lucky ones being without electricity and cable for only a short time. We lost both early AM Wednesday. We got electric back about 9:30 pm last night. We got our cable back 4 pm tonight. We didn't have phone either because it is through the cable. Thankfully, we have cell phones.

The freezing rain left an inch or more thickness on the trees and everything else in its wake. There were crashes of limbs breaking and flashes of light from exploding transformers. So many people are without power than it is probably one for the record books. I know the news guys have reported that it is the second worse ice storm that Kentucky has ever seen. Some people are projected to be without for 2 weeks.

Thankfully, we have gas heaters, cookstove and water heater. My nephews came to stay with us... along with their hermit crab. We had quite the house full.

Updates on gran... her test results from the heart specialist came back good. The ultrasound showed no hardening arteries. The stress test showed no blockages. Her blood pressure has been doing a yo-yo act. But when she's at the doctor's office, it is good. We go back the the specialist in a month.

Please pray for those who are without power and have no way of getting out of their homes due to all the trees that are covering the roads.

We made it to the doctor

Wednesday, January 07, 2009

Yeah. The weather was good to travel today. NO ICE... but it did rain there and back.

The heart specialist ordered an EKG, an EEG, and a chemical stress test. They did the first two today, but we go back next week for the stress test. They say it will take all day.

I think that I will take advantage of the time that she will be in the testing room to catch up on some knitting and reading. I also plan on walking on the sidewalks that wind their way through the medical buildings there.

Bad Weather... No Doctor Today

Tuesday, December 23, 2008

Well, the freezing rain this morning beat us out. It took my husband more than twice is regular time getting to work. He called and told me to stay home. So, I called my uncle, and he canceled the appointment. It was a good thing, too. A man he knows was headed to Memphis (about 2 1/2 hours away) when he had an accident. He had to be life-flighted to Memphis. He is in bad shape. I also found out that this morning there was a 22 car pile-up on the 4-lane bypass just east of town. It was not a good travel day.

So, I will call tomorrow and try to reschedule for early next week. We still have a January 13th appointment for her to see the heart specialist, so if we have to wait until then we'll just have to wait.

Thank you all for your prayers. It helps knowing that you all care.

With the holidays it may be difficult, but try to get a sooner appointment. It doesn't hurt to try. Hope you have a nice holiday.
