The past couple of days have been CRAZY busy, but I've managed to eat well, balanced and at the low end of my calorie range. I've gotten in all my water and then some, but have had no time for fitness...gonna work on that...day after tomorrow. It's now after 10PM, I'm just getting in from work, have to be back tomorrow at 8Am and work till 5. Then, stop at the store and get a birthday present for my sister, meet some friends at 7PM for dinner and FMSC (Feed My Starving Children) project 8-10:30. Bed, then work 7-4 on Saturday. Hopefully get a run in on Saturday evening. In the meantime, I'll keep sparking and doing the very best that I can. Thanks for standing by me. Spark strong friends!

Life never seems to slow down for me. It's a fact that I am going to have to learn to live (healthily) with. got to get out tonight for a run. It was short, and none to fast, but per my Garmin (have I mentioned how I LOVE him?), I got in a solid HARD twenty minute workout. Tomorrow, I will try to get in an abs class...and maybe a short run, we'll see. The other personal goal will be to get a Dr appt to get my medication changed. I know that once I get to sleeping well again, I will handle stresses easier and will have more energy to workout like I should and the weight will begin coming off again. In the meantime, I will not give in and will continue to keep putting one foot in front of the other. It's all a matter of setting goals and moving in the right direction to achieve them. Slow and steady.....I will win this!

So today, I don't work until later, so I got a chance to get out and meet some new running buddies. These new friends have started a non-profit organization called crossrunning.org and I will be doing as much volunteering with them as I can. They are currently working with a local shelter taking people who are transitioning from homelessness and guiding them through one variation or another of C25K...and the goal is to move on from there. Maybe to be able to put on our own 5/10K, incorporate healthy living classes etc etc etc. Besides meeting up with them for the AM runs (on the M-W-F that I don't work early), we will be soliciting donations of gently worn (or new) running shoes, clothes, strollers and such. One of the other volunteers has already managed to get us a half dozen or so new pairs of shoes - WOOHOO Naperville Running Company!!!
It was also the first time that I "officially" put the Garmin to work. All I can say is I LOVE IT!!! Works flawlessly and I may even end up weaning off if the music using this....well, not totally I'm sure, but at least on the shorter runs or the training runs. LSD's will still require some music or a very talkative running buddy, but OH MAN! It was SO worth saving up for the two years and doing all I could to get the thing to an affordable price. Gonna be hard to not want to run or workout all the time. Maybe once the newness wears off it'll be better, but as soon as I got home today and downloaded the info from this morning, I was wanting to get out there again....just to see what I could do and where I am at physically (not on the C25 program).
So, anyway, all in all a GREAT start to the day! Now, to get ready for work. Will be going to a wake over my dinner period. One of my former co-workers passed just this week - my age, 51, - heart attack - and she was a tiny thing! If that doesn't keep me motivated to stay healthy, I don't know what will!!!
Spark strong friends and keep on SPREADING THE SPARK!!!

I know that you all have not heard much from me recently, but I've still been around. I've just been needing to devote some extra time to getting some balance into my life. I'm not anywhere near where I'd like to be, but I'm getting there. Unfortunately, along the way, I "found" ten of the pounds that I had lost. The good side is that I know just what I need to do to "lose" them again. The first thing is getting back on a fitness routine. In order to do that, I am partnering with some friends who are running a non-profit group that will be working with people who are transitioning out of homelessness. We will be helping them learn to live healthier lives, eating and exercise etc etc etc and tomorrow, I will be co-leading my first run/jog/walk with them. It's a great project to share all that running has done for me personally, and help keep me in shape until I am ready to start training for my next "official" event.
Then, to ramp up my healthy eating...sis, is really struggling with her weight. I keep forwarding her information and links to Spark, but she is insisting that it is just too hard! Her newest effort is this stuff that you sprinkle on your food...and I guess somehow you magically lose weight. Oh well, I keep hopng and praying that she will one day give up her search for the fountain of youth or the answer in a magic pill - or whatever. If I keep my eating in check, it will, by nature, be harder for her to let herself get out of control....not impossible, but she will have to work at it!
Lastly, I have my goals for what I am doing with what remains of this year, and I have plenty of work to do to stay focused on them and prepare to do my best at both. First, is to keep up with the above two activities, but also, I will be training for my one and only half of the year....the RNR Half in San Antonio. Still working out the logistics to that one. But first I will need to make it through my trip this July to the Czech Republic. YEP - the CZECH Republic! Can't say I ever gave much thought to going there, but I have been considering going on a sort term mission trip for some time now. One time after another, I found an excuse NOT to go. Then, I heard about this one. We will be working with Czech young people and a group called Josiah Venture. I will be teaching set design and stage lighting at an Art Camp for two weeks (7/2-7/17/12). Hoping to find some time to see the Czech countryside on foot while I'm there and share my fondness for running with some of the girls too! If you are interested in finding out more about this adventure, PLEASE check out our links......and keep me and my team in your prayers!
Feels so good to be back on track and more in balance.
