Most of the time I don't have too much of a problem resisting the urge to overeat emotionally. The past couple of days, however, have been tough. I managed to stay within my guidelines the first day and yesterday I was only slightly over my limit, but I like to keep my intake at the halway mark or lower, so this was quite out of character for me. I can't believe I let the stress get to me that bad. Between the electricity, phone, and wireless internet all being down, it just really got to me. At least I got some fitness in all three days, again, not much, but both yesterday and today, it was all I could do to make myself do it at all.
Fifteen or twenty minutes is better than none though, and I still got 7 miles of walking in at work yesterday and 5 3/4 miles today.
The good news is that the electric is back on and seems to be staying this time, and they wireless internet is up and running again. I guess two out of three ain't bad. The phone is still a piece of Sprint, and they won't do anything without trying to lock me into another 2 year contract with another phone that they promise won't cause the sme problems, but the reviews all disagree and then of course they want more money per month....I think not.
Then I got word today that my road trip vaction with "the girls" may be cancelled. I'm really praying hard that it isn't. I could really use this break! I guess I'll hear more tomorrow. In the meantime, I can get a good nights sleep tonight, a long run in tomorrow, and maybe catch up for all the computer backlog I've got (once again)....what's new.

Last night was the storm of the year in our area. Knocked down a neighbors tree and had our electric out for over 12 hours, and then off and on throughout the day. No electric, hence no phone charging and no internet except for emergencies to get weather updates.
Today, the phone that has been giving me grief since I first bought the overpriced, doesn't do what it is supposed to or what I need it to thing stepped up it's efforts to drive me to the insane assylum...and then, the wireless card (from the SAME company) which shall remain nameless but the name starts with an S and ends with a T (and come to think of it, there IS an I in the name also....DIED....so no internet on the laptop.
I am borrowing sis' desktop to knock out this blog (I believe she is running Windows 2000 operating system) and then I'm going to bed. S****T promises to have the communication issues all resolved this weekend if I am in there early tomorrow. I have to work at 8, but they open at 11 and 10:55 sounds like a good time to take my lunch tomorrow...they are 1 mile from my store.
Thanks for letting me whine...sorry I can't Spark more, but I'll try the catch up thing when I have my computer working again. Soon, I HOPE!!!

It's quite late, so this will be short. I was going to blog earlier, but all I had done for fitness was 15 mins of kickboxing DVD this am before work and I'm really trying to keep the fitness level up to 30 mins a day. It's not easy, especially since the heat is back and it's a bit warm to run. Rally missing it, but the DVD's are teaching me how I've neglected the strength trainng and core work in favor of running for too long. They are tough. But enough whining. After dinner and some catch up work, I got in another 20 minutes, so I've got 35 mins for the day. I can't believe how those programs have me sweating in just 5-10 minutes. Like, really sweating, sweat running down my back and neck and face and hands etc....sweating!
The heat and humidity are brutal though. Been easy to get in the water. In fact, I don't seem to be able to get enough. Fats however, are a different matter. You wouldn't think they would be a problem, but high fat foods just don't seem appealing and even when I do try to eat them, just a little and I'm not hungry anymore. I really think it's heat realated. Fruits and veggies are about all that is appetizing the past couple of days.
Well, don't want to miss out on the workout in the am and I have to be at work at 7am, so it's up at 4:30 if I'm going to get any done. Off to get some sleep.

Taking a break from all that I need to get done tonight. Already made dinner, ate, took care of the animals and grilled a gallon sized ziplock FULL of veggies. Dishes are washing and so are clothes and although I'm tired, I'm changed into my workout gear and am bound and determined to get in a little fitness tonight before bed. Probably VERY little as it is already 8:30 and the garbage has to go out and the dishes and clothes put away....then back up at 4:30 to do it all again tomorrow. That's okay, tomorrow starts the one week countdown to VACATION!!!
I guess I don't mind all the catch up today though. Yesterday was worth every minute of it. I went to service in the morning and had a few minutes to visit with friends, then, I went home and pack up the car with a picnic lunch, dinner, blanket, chair, small back pack w/MP3, change of shoes and socks, and of course lots and lots of water, and more water....then off I headed to the Morton Arboretum. For those of you who are unfamiliar, imagine an open air zoo for trees, shrubs, bushes and flowers....in structured and natural settings. Truly beautiful and informative and relaxing...lots of trails to walk and explore. I got there around two and had a light lunch, since I hadn't eaten since breakfast. Put on the walking shoes, MP3 and an extra water bottle and map and took off walking. Did almost half of the trails on the west side of the park and then headed back to the East side around 4:30.
The whole purpose was to enjoy a day to recharge and in the evening they had a lawn concert with Kenny Loggins. I have been wanting to see him in concert for about 30 years (ever since I was 2 y/o LOL!) The concert started at seven, and I knew I had to have a good seat, so when I saw the lines forming when I got back from my walk, I grabbed my gear from the car and got in line.
Already there were a half dozen people ahead of me in my line and at least that many in each of the other two lines. At about 6:30 they announced that as you entered that all bags, chairs, blankets coolers etc would be searched and I was praying that it would move faster than the airport. I had my folding chair in bag, my bag with my blanket and change of socks and shoes, the little backpack and the cooler....with the picnic dinner and of course water. (Try packing your food and water or a day and you will realize how much you are really putting into your body.) Of course, since I filled my water bottles and froze them to use to keep my food cold, I got questioned about each and every one of them, and when They finished my stuff, I scooped everything up (AND HERE IS WHERE FITNESS COMES IN VERY HANDY) took off in a sprint. Six months ago, I would have been dragging all that stuff SLOWLY across the field and probably given up 1/2 to 2/3 of the way in and said "good enough". Not last night, and NOT ANYMORE!!! I had been waiting a LONG time for this and I ran with all that stuff....and ran, right up to the front. The ONLY people who got any closer were some fan club people that they let in 10 minutes before the rest of us. I got dead center 3 people back.....so close I could see every grey hair AND his blue contact lenses.
It was awesome, I stood and clapped and danced and remembered to myself that six months or so ago, this was all a big dream of mine. In fact, if I had not taken up running 5K's I would never have even known about the concert. (I only heard about it because it was on the Arboretum website that I went to to sign up for what was to have been my first 5K.) Because of this amazing journey, I got to see a concert I had only dreamed of seeing, in a gorgeous location that I spent a leisurely day exploring and met some really wonderful people who were with me in line and picnicking who were complimenting my food - Quinoa salad and grilled veggies and fruit and laughing cow cheese and sunflower seeds and and raw celery, okra and hummus and a jello chocolate mouse - 100 cal treat. They bought the fruit cups and turkey ciabatta sandwiches at the site for $15.00. I got to explain how I found out about the concert and how and why I eat like I do and how I managed to get to the front of the park so quick and a couple of the other ladies seemed to be really interested that Spark could really work and still be FREE. So even though I wasn't very active on the site yesterday, I didn't get home till almost midnight and had to be up for work this morning, I did some Sparking too.
I think that's what this journey has all been about. Learning to live life healthily...and it's a BLAST! I know I'll be going back there again, and who knows what other horizons I may explore. I know I'm excited to find out myself!
Did I mention the cute little sleeveless, cookie(sp?) I wore? I'll get pictures take in it in San Antonio and post them when I return from vacation.
Keep Sparking everyone, chores are calling (the other side of life you know), I guess they aren't so bad!

Oh, how I do LOVE Sundays!!! Just finished my breakfast and working out. I believe I've said it before, but the new Shape DVD's are tough. There ae a bunch of 10-15-or20 min high intensity workouts and when I finish one, I really know I've gotten a workout. The soreness is finally starting yo subside from a few days ago and I'm still having trouble keeping up with the level two exercises, so I find myself slipping back to what they call level one, but either way, when time is short, I KNOW I've done some calorie burning AND toning.
Thre proof came this morning....I hopped on the scale to check my weight since a couple of days this week I was near the higher end of my nutrition scale. Much to my surprise, the scale read 140. I'm sure, I checked it three times, even moving it to different spots on the floor. I was so excited I ran upstairs and check my measurements. In June, I have lost 3.5 pounds, 1.2 inch of my waist and .75" of my hips and even my thighs are slimming (and shaping) and I can start to see some muscle definition in even the back and inner thigh....not just the quads. The most shocking is a slight reduction in my calves and upper arm. Those numbers rarely, if ever, move and the eeked down a notch.
I have to say, I'm happily surprised. I've really only had time for one long run this week, but it WAS a doozy. Over 4 miles, my longest to date. Got some sprints in on the treadmill, and I have the incline set at 10%. Unfortunately, today isn't going to be one of my better fitness days either. Got to go hop in the shower now. Church and then pack a picnic lunch/dinner and off for a day at the arboretum to do some serious walking and a Kenny Loggins concert at 7PM!
Does life get any better than that???
