Nutrition within ranges - Check
Fitness - Nill
Sleep - Need some - Could not get up this morning - hence no fitness....dinner and chores when I got home and work tomorrow at 7AM. Hopefully if I get to bed right now, I can get up at 4:30 and get in some fitness in the AM.

Why does it seem like the days are getting shorter? I never have time to get everything done. I did manage to get up this morning after hitting snooze a couple of times. Still, I was just too tired to talk myself into running and now it's 8:30 and drizzly and I'm getting to bed. We'll try it again tomorrow. I did get in twenty minutes of circuits and ran a half mile on a 10% incline just to get some fitness in, but not great time and my heart just wasn't on the treadmill thing first thing in the am. Hoping tomorrow am goes better.
Food wise I was okay, but higher than I like, especially in fats. My sis has been on a red meat (hamburger) kick, and even a half of one of those burgers is 22g of fat!!! But, by the time I get home from work, I hardly feel like preparing two meals. Well, the next couple of days I'll be home by 4:30, so maybe there will be some time and decent weather to run after dinner. The down side is that I have to be a work at 7AM on those two days, so to get any fitness in first will be a trick. Hence, off to bed I go.

This weekend flew by. Race, work, dinner, church, lunch, baby shower, dinner and all the little daily sundries to keep life moving....wow, I'm tired. I seemed espsecially hungry today, and even though I indulged in a cupcake and 6 potato chips, I managed to stay within my fat, calories, carbs and proteind....barely.
Got zero fitness in though, and almost thought about trying, but it is all I can do to type this out. It's 8:30, and I'm hitting the sack. Gonna get up tomorrow early and run and try to get in a little strength training before work. Don't have to be in until 11:30, so as long as I'm on the road between 7 and 7:30, I shoukd be able to get in a decent run and still have time to eat, pack lunch, strength, strength train, and get a couple of chores done. Got a heavy load this next week. Work Monday-Friday and Saturday I have our Serving Saturday with my church in the community from 8-4, technical arts dinner in the evening and at nine my friends band is competing in the battle of the bands. Sunday AM is a mandatory mtg at work at 6AM before church, then church and if I'm still standing an event in the city in the late afternoon. I'm tired just thinking about it. Better get some rest.

Today I ran my second 5K ever. Last month, in my first, I was pretty happy with my 36:21 time. Today, in temperatures a full 35 degrees warmer, I ran my second race.
It was a totally different experience! This time we were chipped...which I love! It was a much larger race (1184 total runners, 708 were women). It seemed to take forever just to get to the starting line....thank God for chip timing! (Your time doesn't start officially until you cross the starting line.) It was warmer and muggy with threatening clouds. In fact, at around the 3/4 mile point it did drizzle for a few minutes, nothing bad until about 45mins to an hour after the start of the race.
I started off a little faster than I had anticipated, but I was feeling pretty strong, until the first turn at 3/4 of a mile in. Right after the turn we hit a hill. It was a moderate incline, but loonnggg (almost 1/4 mile of hill)! Right after the hill, we passed the split time marker and I passed it at 10:45 - I couldn't believe I was running that clip, I thought it was just the hill making me feel especially winded. When I got home and got the officials, it turns out that I actually did the first mile in 10:12!!!
The second mile, I slowed up a little and finally felt like I was getting a stride. We zigzagged through some lovely neighborhoods, and I felt like I was recovering my breathing rhythm even though the warmth and humidity was making me sweat worse than I have on an outdoor run since I started back in February. Mile marker two, I was just starting to feel drained again, but the split showed that I finished the second mile in about 11:15, so still feeling quite pleased, I was certain that if I kept pushing through the drained feeling, I would finish with a better time than my first race....and that was my goal for this one.
Mile three was tough though. There were a series of minimal inclines and declines, but they were really draining me fast. I was so tempt to walk, but I didn't want to take the chance with not beating my first race time. I knew my speed was pretty drastically decreased from where I was at the beginning of the race, but I just didn't have anymore to give except for the last 1/8th mile or so and very little extra then. When I crossed the finish, I glanced at the clock and it read 35:30 (or there abouts - as I could tell through the sweat drippin in my eyes). I was THRILLED!!! That's 51 seconds better than my run last month! Come to find out when official times were posted, I actually did 34:49.2!!!!! That's 1:32 better than last month!!!! I still can't get the smile off of my face!
The race results were 1184 total runners - I placed 856
708 women - I placed 456
73 women age 45-49 (I'm 49 1/2) - I placed 49
11 min 12.4 sec per mile
I am ready to go again!!! Gonna take tomorrow for strength training and Monday morning get up bright and early for a nice long leisurely road run. I want to start increasing my endurance because now I'm just itching to start seriously training for a 10K!
Thanks all you Sparkers out there - you kept me going through all this training and I know you were all behind me, especially in that last mile telling me I could push through! I love you all!!! And I love running, especially when I'm done!
