Fitness Center Status

Friday, April 05, 2013

Well ... after being discouraged at the unwillingness of a couple fitness centers to really work with me ... and the high cost of others ... I've decided not to join any at the present time. For now walking, gardening and a few video's from SP will have to be my fitness plan. I probably wouldn't be a faithful member of any club throughout the spring and summer ... I'll be too busy outside enjoying the fresh air to stick to a regular routine.

I'm comfortable with my decision ... with a little more time for research I'm sure I will make a better choice in the fall.

So now I need to get completely over my flu, and hope the weather improves so I can get outside and enjoy my garden. I've had so much time to make plans it will be a miracle if I get everything done this year ... I think I have enough ideas mapped out to last me a few more summers!

Try to remember ... just because original plans change doesn't mean the journey has to end ... just continue on the new road and see what fun is in store for you.

I love the last sentence of your blog! Plans change and the road twists and turns, but learning to adjust will keep us moving in the right direction.

Gyms are not for everyone. Perhaps finding an exercise buddy would work for you. A walking partner. When it comes to exercise, I think if you enjoy it... you'll do it.

As long as you have a plan (which you do!) you can stick to it and have success. I'd recommend some Leslie Sansone Walk Away the Pounds videos for rainy days. I've lost and maintained using walking and SP videos, and you can do it too!

Fitness Centers around here don't seem to be user friendly ...

Sunday, February 24, 2013

emoticonI just finished my first trial week at a local fitness center ... I loved it ... well at least I loved the exercise.
I tried a couple of times to get someone to show me something that would replace the exercise machine that they had a few years ago but no one was ever available to help. The last day I was there I asked if there was someone to walk me through when I returned the next time (as a member) and they couldn't get enough of me. I decided to move on to another place to see what they had to offer before making my decision ... I'll start there tomorrow morning ... 2 weeks to check them out.

When talking with the girl to get an idea of what to expect I learned that I would be pretty much on my own for that two weeks. There wouldn't be anyone to help me out until I signed my life away and started paying. I do have a schedule so I know when the classes are, but there are only a couple that I am really interested in. For now I'll be relying on the stationary/recumbent bikes and a little circuit training. After my 2 weeks are up I have one more place to check before making my decision ... I sure hope one of the three (they are much closer than the others in the area) ends up being a good fit for me.

I sure would like a better idea of what I'm getting myself into before I part with my money ... and I also want to know that I'm doing the exercises properly so there isn't injury! If I'm going to commit to someplace for 2 years I want to know what to expect. You would think any fitness center would like me to be a safe and well informed member ...

Oh, I know how you feel! I haven't been to a gym for a long time because of that very thing! I'm going to try my hubby's - he says they are good - I hope he knows what he's talking about!

Good luck!

HUGS!

You are smart to take your time and find the right fit place for you. Can you schedule an appointment to have someone show you all the equipment? I belong to the YMCA and that's how they do it.

Would you feel comfortable starting up a conversation with someone who is already a member? Ask them what they like and/or don't like about the facility? If possible choose a woman about your same age.

Getting up late really messes with my schedule ...

Sunday, February 17, 2013

I got up later than normal this morning ... that usually happens a couple times a week. I worked out at the gym yesterday so that might account for it. I seem to sleep really well after a good workout.

By the time I have meds ... wait my hour ... I am having breakfast almost at lunch time. That messes with my normal daily meals. Today we had brunch at around 11:30 so supper should be now ... I'm not hungry for a meal yet so I guess it's time to get out the veggies or my yogurt to hold me over until we have our spaghetti dinner around 6 tonight. Then there really isn't room for a third meal, so I'll have to include a light snack around 9:30 tonight ... I suppose keeping it balanced and making sure I get all my fruits and veggies for the day is key.

Does anyone out there have the same problem ... would love to hear from you on how you handle it!

Stress can be one of the worst contributers to weight problems. Today is Valentine's Day ... a great day for sharing others love and kindness to those around you.
emoticon SMILE ... emoticon at everyone you see today ...
Show random acts of kindness whenever possible.
Who knows ... you may reduce someone's stress level ... giving them just the right amount of encouragement to relax and enjoy their day ... while eating healthy!
