Rose and Barb

Saturday, May 22, 2010

Two 90-year-old women, Rose and Barb had been friends all of their lives.
When it was clear that Rose was dying, Barb visited her every day.

One day Barb said, 'Rose, we both loved playing women's softball all our lives, and we played all through High School. Please do me one favor: when you get to Heaven, somehow you must let me know if there's women's softball there.'

Rose looked up at Barb from her deathbed and said, 'Barb, you've been my best friend for many years. If it's at all possible, I'll do this favor for you.' Shortly after that, Rose passed on.

A few nights later, Barb was awakened from a sound sleep by a blinding flash of white light and a voice calling out to her, 'Barb, Barb.'
'Who is it?' asked Barb, sitting up suddenly. 'Who is it?'
'Barb -- it's me, Rose.'
'You're not Rose. Rose just died.'
'I'm telling you, it's me, Rose,' insisted the voice.
'Rose! Where are you?'
'In Heaven,' replied Rose. 'I have some really good news and a little bad news.'

'Tell me the good news first,' said Barb.

'The good news,' Rose said, 'is that there's softball in Heaven. Better yet all of our old buddies who died before us are here, too. Better than that, we're all young again. Better still, it's always springtime, and it never rains or snows. And best of all, we can play softball all we want, and we never get tired.'

'That's fantastic,' said Barb. 'It's beyond my wildest dreams! So what's the bad news?'

'You're pitching Tuesday.'

Life is uncertain - eat dessert first.

STATS

Monday, May 17, 2010

Ok one more on the B2B 12 K - did I mention that this is the ONLY walk/jog race I have ever been in? Never was a runner even as a young one. I am in a family of sprinters - my brothers all won races & relays in HS - we are all short & fast. I never run/jog because I have 2 speeds walk or run fast then I get too tired too soon... so I have never been a jogger - don't know how to pace myself to jog... Oh well that is another story emoticon or excuse! ha! But I am learning after 50 yrs - insert another ha ha here!

Back to the stats - if you are interested - or not! emoticon emoticon

time from the start to the finish 2hrs 20 min 24 sec

overall placings 18,774th of 24,303 - I was in front of 5,529 people who was behind me or didn't finish because they partied too much - yes this next guy was in front of me

of all the females - I was 8,915 of 12,477 - So I beat 3,562 of those, many of those were probably young partiers... emoticon

and finally of the females age 50-59 - I was 1,111 of 1.833 - I was ahead of only 722 of those. I could see from these stats that the older females are pretty healthy and that according to dh stats there more females in the race than males - there were 11,826 males and 12,477 females registered.

all layered up and ready to go - it was a cool day almost 50 to start and ended around 56.

FINALLY: next photo I stole from SP user USFBull's blog to show our SP pride!

AILULI, myself, USFBULL, MRSKITTKITT, BOBBY_SF, all members of the Bay to Breakers team on SP. I missed some others who went through before I got there.
It was a great day and I might add I am not sore today emoticon emoticon emoticon

B2B I did it!!

Monday, May 17, 2010

Today was the Bay to Breakers 12 K - Hubby and I did mainly a walk and a little jogging.
It was a long day which started on the road very early... and the streets of SF were pretty lonely. We started out close to the San Francisco Bay near the Embarcadero.

The crowd started to gather and not sure if you can notice or not in the pic but they were throwing tortillas in the crowd to keep it energized and there were all sorts of people - young adults, middle ages & senior citizens, families pushing strollers, they were dressed in running gear, crazy costumes and some only had a hat, scarf or open jacket on at the most...

We started out in a crowd which thinned out - our jogging past the slow pack helped to keep a steady pace. Which we did off and on during our walk. There was music off and on along the course - it was upbeat and as occasional hiphop sound was quite the motivation. then we got to the dreaded Hayse Street Hill. I didn't think it was so bad - but I was so ready to be at the top though. We stopped to take some pics and went for higher ground in the park and found some empty pota pottys emoticon that also gave us some time to catch our breath. I guess all those times on the treadmill at 11-12 and sometimes up to 15 really paid off today... emoticon
We walked through Golden Gate Park which was relaxing after the hill and the views were enjoyable with the rose gardens

All was well until I got to mile 7 - I got a call from another SParker meeting us there MrsKittKitt.
I took the call and dh continued to walk - I have a new phone and still trying to learn the new touch - so it took a while - then I didn't see him... So I jogged along looking for him and trying to catch up. He in the meantime didn't see me so he stopped and looked for me behind him - I must have passed him and didn't notice him I was looking ahead and he was behind - He was looking behind and I was ahead emoticon I went on to the finish line - passing through myself - still looking thinking where is he picked up my tshirt at the booth walked past all the tents and people. I thought maybe he didn't see me and went on to our meeting spot S where I was meeting the other SP... not there either. I caught up with the other SP'rs and then went back towards the finish line. There he was between the tshirts and the picture booths...
So I didn't get many pics of the finish line - it was at the Great Highway along the Pacific coast beach. Is always a nice view although a little overcast today - here is the tshirt tents at the end of the finish line... emoticon

Now I am ready for good long hot soak in the tub!

A Newborn ' s Conversation with God

Wednesday, May 12, 2010

A baby asked God, "They tell me you are sending me to earth tomorrow, but how am I going to live there being so small and helpless?"

God said, "Your angel will be waiting for you and will take care of you."

The child further inquired, "But tell me, here in heaven I don't have to do anything but sing and smile to be happy."

God said, "Your angel will sing for you and will also smile for you. And you will feel your angel's love and be very happy."

Again the small child asked, "And how am I going to be able to understand when people talk to me if I don't know the language?"

God said, "Your angel will tell you the most beautiful and sweet words you will ever hear, and with much patience and care, your angel will teach you how to speak."

"And what am I going to do when I want to talk to you?"

God said, "Your angel will place your hands together and will teach you how to pray."

"Who will protect me?"

God said, "Your angel will defend you even if it means risking its life."

"But I will always be sad because I will not see you anymore."

God said, "Your angel will always talk to you about Me and will teach you the way to come back to me, even though I will always be next to you."

At that moment there was much peace in Heaven, but voices from Earth could be heard and the child hurriedly asked, "God, if I am to leave now, please tell me my angel ' s name."

God said, You will simply call her, " Mom ."
