Thought to ponder

Deep Thought to Ponder ...
If you don't know GOD, don't make stupid remarks!!!!!!

A United States Marine was taking some college courses between assignments. He had completed 20 missions in Iraq and Afghanistan. One of the courses had a professor who was an avowed atheist, and a member of the ACLU.
One day the professor shocked the class when he came in. He looked to the ceiling and flatly stated, "GOD, if you are real, then I want you to knock me off this platform... I'll give you exactly 15 min."
The lecture room fell silent. You could hear a pin drop. Ten minutes went by and the professor proclaimed, "Here I am GOD, I'm still waiting."
It got down to the last couple of minutes when the Marine got out of his chair, went up to the professor, and cold-cocked him; knocking him off the platform. The professor was out cold.
The Marine went back to his seat and sat there, silently.
The other students were shocked and stunned, and sat there looking on in silence. The professor eventually came to, noticeably shaken, looked at the Marine and asked, "What in the world is the matter with you? Why did you do that?"
The Marine calmly replied, "GOD was too busy today protecting America's soldiers who are protecting your right to say stupid stuff and act like an idiot. So He sent me."
The classroom erupted in cheers!

Jesus look down on our brave soldiers and on anyone in need. Thank you, Jesus for giving us such selfless men and women to protect us. Please come into the hearts of our enemies and help them to live in peace. We need an end to this war, please, Jesus. If it is in your will. Amen. emoticon

Piano duet

Saturday, July 31, 2010

If this doesn't put a smile on your face, nothing will.
An elderly couple walked into the lobby of the Mayo Clinic for a checkup and spotted a piano. They've been married for 62 years and he'll be 90 this year.
Check out this impromptu performance… It's all attitude.
Enjoy!!

Nice day!

Monday, July 26, 2010

We got a day off and took in a bike ride last week. I found out I am a little out of shape from the last time we visited that trail. It is a 6 mile trail with lots of hills up and down - some easy - some harder. Then we come back down a lot more quickly - esp since we take more pics going up making it a 12 mile trip. It is alongside a reservoir so we have the nice lake view and then go through the trees and see wildlife.
Here are some pics

starting out and heading up

I stopped because just ahead were a family of about 7 dear grazing along both sides of the road

A little closer view of the deer

on the move and going slow so dh can get a pic, lol!

nice view of the lake

me after the highest point - yep red faced, hot & out of shape - couldn't wait to get to that bench, rest and get some water...

dh on the way down

just a little humor - we often see speed limit signs for bike trails but not radar enforced lol!

Later we drove over along the coast and was gonna get on a trail there but it was cloudy misty and cool so we walked around the town instead. The next picture was a mural on the whole side of the building - Half Moon Bay is the area where they have the Maverick surf contest - this mural is so lifelike - looks like a real active wave - just had to snap a picture

It was a nice day off and we always love getting out for a ride or a walk on the beach.
Have a great day!

Love your pics! I am just starting back to biking...my hubby and I are looking at a pair of schwinn hybrids - his and her - tonight. He hasn't really committed to riding but I can usually persuade him. I have been riding about 1 week and i am riding about 8 miles but I am on a really old bike that was my daughter's and the seat is so little. I grunt over every bump. You look like a pro! Ca looks beautiful. I am here in beautiful bucks county pa and I can't wait to get out and really ride. Happy biking!!

Remember... ?

Monday, July 05, 2010

I know some of you will not understand this message, but I bet you know someone who might. I came across this phrase yesterday. 'FENDER SKIRTS.'

A term I haven't heard in a long time, and thinking about 'fender skirts' started me thinking about other words that quietly disappear from our language with hardly a notice like 'curb feelers.'

And 'steering knobs.' (AKA) ?~suicide knob,?T ?~neckers knobs.?T

Since I'd been thinking of cars, my mind naturally went that direction first.
Any kids will probably have to find some older person over 50 to explain some of these terms to you. Remember 'Continental kits?' They were rear bumper extenders and spare tire covers that were supposed to make any car as cool as a Lincoln Continental.

When did we quit calling them 'emergency brakes?' At some point 'parking brake' became the proper term. But I miss the hint of drama that went with 'emergency brake.'

I'm sad, too, that almost all the old folks are gone who would call the accelerator the 'foot feed.' Many today do not even know what a clutch is or that the dimmer switch used to be on the floor.

idn't you ever wait at the street for your daddy to come home, so you could ride the 'running board' up to the house?

Here's a phrase I heard all the time in my youth but never anymore - 'store-bought.' Of course, just about everything is store-bought these days. But once it was bragging material to have a store-bought dress or a store-bought bag of candy.

'Coast to coast' is a phrase that once held all sorts of excitement and now means almost nothing. Now we take the term 'world wide' for granted. This floors me.

On a smaller scale, 'wall-to-wall' was once a magical term in our homes. In the '50s, everyone covered his or her hardwood floors with, wow, wall-to-wall carpeting! Today, everyone replaces their wall-to-wall carpeting with hardwood floors. Go figure.

When was the last time you heard the quaint phrase 'in a family way?'
It's hard to imagine that the word 'pregnant' was once considered a little too graphic, a little too clinical for use in polite company, so we had all that talk about stork visits and 'being in a family way' or simply 'expecting.'
Apparently 'brassiere' is a word no longer in usage. I said it the other day and my daughter cracked up. I guess it's just 'bra' now. 'Unmentionables' probably wouldn't be understood at all.
Most of these words go back to the '50s, but here's a pure '60s word I came across the other day 'rat fink.' Ooh, what a nasty put-down!
Here's a word I miss - 'percolator.' That was just a fun word to say. And what was it replaced with 'Coffee maker.' How dull... Mr. Coffee, I blame you for this.

miss those made-up marketing words that were meant to sound so modern and now sound so retro. Words like 'DynaFlow' and'Electrolux.' Introducing the 1963 Admiral TV, now with 'SpectraVision!'

Food for thought. Was there a telethon that wiped out lumbago? Nobody complains of that anymore. Maybe that's what castor oil cured, because I never hear mothers threatening kids with castor oil anymore.

Some words aren't gone, but are definitely on the endangered list. The one that grieves me most is 'supper.' Now everybody says 'dinner.' Save a great word. Invite someone to supper. Discuss fender skirts.
Someone forwarded this to me. I thought some of us of a 'certain age' would remember most of these. emoticon

Happy Independence Day!

Saturday, July 03, 2010

Hope you are all having a safe, relaxing fun time with family and friends!

I came across this video - it was a Q & A forum type meeting - the last question was followed by a comment and a song. The last verse of the Star Spangled Banner. A forgotten verse or deleted verse but I think is more proof that our country was founded on Godly principles with Him first in mind to help further the country.
I have written out all the verses as well - enjoy!

www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9_bP219ehQ&
feature=youtu.be

Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thru the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected, now shines on the stream:
Tis the star-spangled banner: O, long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

O, thus be it ever when freemen shall stand,
Between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause. it is just,
And this be our motto: "IN GOD IS OUR TRUST"
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave
