Late & Written in Jello - Week of 1/20/2013 Game Plan

Tuesday, January 22, 2013

OK, so I learned a valuable lesson last week. Though it's nice to plan for the week, I really need to take things day by day because life happens. As long as I fit my cardio & strength goals timewise, it's okay to be flexible about how and when I do that during the day. emoticon That being said, here's my plan for this week, though this will change when I figure out what's in store for January Jumpstart week 4:

Fitness Plan
Monday - 30 minutes of dancing, 30 minute jog, JJ day 6, extra 10 minutes of arm weights
Tuesday - 2 work walks, JJ day 7, Work Challenge, 100 situps, 100 pushups
Wednesday - 2 work walks, JJ day 1, boot camp, abs video
Thursday - 2 work walks, JJ day 2, bike, gymnastics exercises 10 minutes
Friday - 2 walks, JJ day 3, elliptical, arms video
Saturday - JJ day 4, jog, abs video
Sunday - JJ day 5, dancing games, Jackie Warner video

Dinner Plan
Monday - chicken tenders, green beans
Tuesday - pork, cabbage, potatoes

S--- Happens: My Game Plan for Week of 1/13/2013 - Revised

Thursday, January 17, 2013

I had to make a few quick - and tough - changes. Wednesday marked the beginning of week 3 of the January Jumpstart Challenge for me. For week 3 of the January Jumpstart, I'm supposed to do an extra 10 minutes a day. I meant to do an extra cardio video with this, but I realize I already do quite a bit of cardio - it's strength training I don't seem to get enough of. I also had to switch my in office/out of office work days this week, so this means I can go to the office gym on Thursday, not Friday. Also, Alita is sick so I had to cancel our jog this evening emoticon Also, the new episode of PLL didn't download to my kindle on time to watch it on the stationary bike yesterday so I did BRUTAL circuits. I'm still sore today emoticon I'll do the stationary bike at lunch today, after I do the challenge I can't do tomorrow since I'll be out at the restaurants instead of at the office.

Workout Plan:
Sunday - Day 5 JJ, Just Dance 4 sweat mode -DONE
Monday - 2 work walks, day 6 JJ, lunchtime office challenge (1 mile on elliptical at level 8, 1 minute pushups, 1 minute situps, 1 minute squats, backwards jump rope) -DONE
Tuesday - 2 work walks, day 7 JJ, lunchtime boot camp class -- MODIFIED 1 WORK WALK, NO BOOT CAMP
Wednesday - 2 work walks, day 1 JJ, lunchtime circuits, 10-minute crunchless core video
Thursday - 2 work walks, day 2 JJ, lunchtime office challenge (1 mile on elliptical at level 8, 1 minute pushups, 1 minute situps, 1 minute squats, backwards jump rope) plus stationary bike, leg toning video
Friday - Morning jog, day 3 JJ, arm toning video
Saturday - (rest day) day 4 JJ, fat blaster video

Dinner Plan
Sunday - pesto tilapia, salad, couscous
Monday - turkey chow mein
Tuesday - slow cooker turkey chili
Wednesday - turkey pot sticker stir fry w/edamame
Thursday - turkey burgers, carrots
Friday -pizza, salad
Saturday - TBD, depending on what's on sale at the grocery store

Fruits of the week: bananas, cherries, honeydew, apples, tangerines

-- had to modify Tuesday! Forgot to take into account that I have to leave early on Tuesdays.

I'm still feeling my Monday workout! I'm well enough to get out and walk or hit the gym today finally, but I can STILL feel the soreness in my quads. Need to do more squats!

I see a definite "turkey" theme here. ;-) Just kidding, it all sounds REALLY good!

I like your idea of writing it all down. I really need to start doing this!

I think planning is something I need to do, too. Except I kinda suck at it. LOL.

Had an Epiphany: I Need to Be More Like My Four Year Old

Friday, December 21, 2012

Last Monday, when we got home from Hip Hop class, Alita had was sick with a fever of 103. Within 18 hours, the fever was gone, and she was bouncing off the walls. Friday, I didn't want to eat. By Saturday morning, I had the same fever... and it took me THREE days to kick the fever, FIVE DAYS to feel myself again. It took me more than SIX times the amount of time to get over the same exact bug. So I got to thinking... aside from the obvious difference in youth, why did she recover so much more quickly? The big, glaring reason: MY FOUR YEAR OLD HAS A MUCH HEALTHIER LIFESTYLE.

I am such a hypocrite, at least weekly eating things at the office that I rarely (like once a week) let her have at home, like cookies, candy, etc. Truth be told I'm more of a savory snack person, but thank goodness that's not what people bring in around here! But I always try homemade cookies and those cookies add up, one cookie at a time, even though I almost always limit myself to one.

Alita also is a total athlete compared to me. In addition to the general running and bouncing that a preschooler does throughout the day, she has almost FOUR HOURS of active classes a week (dance and gymnastics). I would wager she's an athlete compared to a lot of people. I used to be really good about going to boot camp twice a week, but haven't been to boot camp in a while. In my depression at being allergic to carba mix, which is in all rubber/elastic products, including spandex, I just haven't had much motivation to do anything. Truth be told, my lack of motivation has not led me to gain weight or anything. In fact, now that I've stopped, my clothes fit a little better, probably because it doesn't take a whole lot for me to bulk up.

My resolution: Eat and play like my daughter!

Creekside 5K and Fun Run

Monday, May 14, 2012

This wasn't my first 5K, but it was a first in a few ways. It was the first time...

I've done the course
I've done a 5K with a stroller
I've done a 5K and actually TRIED
I've run a 5K that was entirely paved
Alita's run a "race"

The course started at the middle of a long, rolling hill, went down, then all the way up, then back to the middle again. emoticon The other runners/walkers were very sweet, encouraging and supportive, and Alita and I had a great time. emoticon

I was initially disappointed with my time (40:30) until I stopped and evaluated how far I've come, even from the Orchard to Ocean last month. I shaved 2 minutes off my time from March. Even though I wasn't trying in March, I wasn't pushing a stroller, and there weren't any hills on that course either. I also managed to jog all the way to the midpoint, which was my goal for September. Given that, I'm really happy with how I did. emoticon

It was a great experience for Alita, too. She even got a medal for her fun run! Lol, all the kids did. She can't wait to do another one!
