Maintaining goal weight a year later!

Thursday, August 19, 2010

Well, I am pleased to say that today is a year from reaching my goal weight. I have continued to work hard making healthy choices and fitting in fitness. I bumped into a former co-worker who I had not seen in 2-3 years and she was shocked at my weight loss. It cracked me up when she said I heard someone who sounded like you but it took me a minute to focus and see that it was you. I told her that I had lost 100 pounds in 10 months and then the other 20 plus pounds in 5 months and reached goal weight August 19, 2009. I am thankful for my family and friends for continued motivation and support. WhooHoo!!!

Just like riding a Bike

Thursday, May 20, 2010

Mixing it up a little bit with cycling and my other exercise. So glad the sun came out long enough for me to ride today. I think I might try to get a little more garage time in after the housework. I found a nice website to track my riding with the iphone app store.

I cannot wait to get back in to biking. We are moving back to our hometown this July and it offers the best paved biking trails all over the city. We all miss doing this as a family. Have a great time biking!

Way to go, glad you enjoyed your ride.
Unfortunately for our neighboorhood, the construction on the main roads has increased our traffic by 3x as much, and we don't have bike trails close to by to get to without the traffic.
So I go to our riverwalk and walk there, usually 10 cooler and its a nice not too busy trek.
Have a great day.

Simple Pleasure with results!

Thursday, May 13, 2010

I had forgotten the feeling of taking a joy ride! When I was young I used to ride for hours during the week around the neighborhood. At some point I became to busy to ride. My husband purchased a pair of bikes for my anniversary present in April. I have not been able to stay off the bike. I enjoy the exercise and calorie burn just about as much as the wind hitting my face. There is a feeling of strength topping a small incline. Excitement and fear going 15-20 miles per hour down a small valley. This is definitely my favorite form of exercise at the time. I am really enjoying those Sunday afternoon family rides as well.

Nothing compares to the simple pleasure of a bike ride. ~John F. Kennedy

Life is like riding a bicycle - in order to keep your balance, you must keep moving. ~Albert Einstein

Chubby

I have been maintaining my goal weight range of 140 plus or minus 10 pounds since reaching my goal weight of 140 August 19,2009. I currently weigh 146.3. I started at 260 in March 2008. This I remain proud of. However, yesterday my daughter asked me was I going to workout in the garage again. This usually means she wants to tag along for my evening workout which I love her to share in fitness activity with me. I replied yes probably in a little bit after finishing my chores. She then said "You really should because you are a little chubby". I could not hardly speak to her the rest of the evening because I was crushed. I know she is only 7 but she has no idea of how hard I work to maintain my weight. I was not overweight until my late 20's and not obese until my early 30's. But I am at a healthy BMI and will be 40 this year. I hope that she never has to work so hard to maintain a healthy weight. Have a great evening!

laughing - you are tiny. My first thought is that is the way of a child to ensure a workout from mom so that she doesn't find an excuse to not do it. That's her time with mom and she doesn't realize the impact of her words. Does she hear you say that word a lot of how maybe you don't want to be chubby? She's only seven. My boys are 12 and 14 and will sometimes still come to me and ask what a word means that I assume they would have already known. But if it helps, you could let her know how this hurt you because you don't want her saying this to someone else without realizing what she is really doing. You're tiny!

Hmmm ok so let's look at this a different way. And btw 140 sounds TINY to me! Is it possible that she doesn't want you to ever get as big as you were again? And that is her way of saying it? I know I have found out since my children have grown up that they thought about things I never knew they were thinking.

As adults we know that you are not chubby at all!
In fact you look Awesome!!!
Maybe your Daughter can learn from you about what a Healthy Fit Woman looks like, and not to strive to be a pencil thin Woman like all the hungry looking models we see on tv, and in magazines. This could be a great time to teach your Daughter a good lesson in life that will carry her through adulthood, so she doesn't have to go through the same lessons we did growing up!
This could turn out to be a positive you know!
I think you look Great and you should still feel very proud of yourself and pat yourself on the back for all your hard work! emoticon

Oh It's amusing what can come out of the mouths of children. You should be very proud of your accomplishments. It sounds as though your hard work paid off. Use the time in the garage working out with your daughter as a teaching moment about building others up. Keep up the good work!!

Today is my one year anniversary with Sparkpeople. I started in March on 2008 tracking my food and exercise and was excited to find Sparkpeople to keep the "spark" on my healthier lifestyle. I was able to enjoy exercising in my garage with some friends today. WooHoo! Great way to start the day. I am excited to say that I am still maintaing my goal weight of 140 pounds plus or minus 10 pounds. I set this goal weight when in weighed 260 pounds. I changed my mindset to a I will lose the weight and did it by August 2009.

emoticon What an inspiration you are! I tell myself that if others have been able to make this type of achievement
than so can I.

How did you manage to stay so motivated & focused on order to lose that much weight in such a short amount of time...what was it? A year & a half approx? That is a lot to lose even in a year & a half...really great!!

I am really struggling with motivation lately & just cannot seem to switch my mind set to my new healthier lifestyle. I have approx 100 lbs I need to lose & it just seems so overwhelming. I would love to hear how you were able to do it & what helped you stay focused & on track.

Thanks for the inspiration & once again congratulations on all your hard work & the wonderful accomplishment!!
