Forgive yourself. Figure out what you can do better. You are going to go for fast food. Pick safer items from the menu. Kids meals with fruits and veggies and skim milk are a good choice. Salads can be pretty bad.

Get rid of the soda and put the water bottle next to you. A dash of lemon sometimes makes it better. Or you can figure out a way to have it less than once a week. Did you know that even one soda a day can cause calcium loss in your bones? We can't afford it.

Tomorrow is another day. Mark your calendar with a big X when you do your workout (cross train) and seeing the blank days may help you want to at least do something every day.

Drink an extra two glasses of water for the next two days and see if you can't work out some of the extra water weight.

Yes I do have a fitness pet peeve that makes me crazy

Friday, February 26, 2010

Yes I do have a fitness pet peeve that makes me crazy here I am once again to confront what makes me a crazy person. Yup in today SP mail there it was to hit me in the face ugh !

Exercise tip for the day "Lean Muscle Mass" the line that made me nutty over was this line " Muscle also weighs more than fat" it did continue to state " but it takes up much less space."

Muscle is denser and takes up less space then fat is airy and take more space up therefore looks BIGGER then the pound of muscle and this is where I believe people go around saying a pound of muscle weighs more.

No matter how you look out a pound is ALWAYS 16 OUNCES PERIOD! I don't care if its a brick feathers muscle or fat ONE pound equals SIXTEEN Ounces end of story

Me being a logical person and everything need to be logical in my life Logic tells you 16 ounce makes 1 pound up therefore no matter what you are weigh will always be made of of 16 ounces to equal one pound . Now maybe they were trying to say that if you had and equal size block of fat & muscle that the muscle would way more that would be true since muscle is denser so if you had a 2 inch by 2 inch square of fat and 2 inch by 2 inch square of muscle that the muscle would weigh more in pounds, but if you are weigh one pound (16 ounces) to a pound they both weigh the same 16 ounces. Muscle will sink in water whereas fat will float.

I just needed to get this off of my chest there I feel better these links explains the difference in plain ENGLISH

You're right. A pound is a pound is a pound. I love the visual on your blog. I can't wait to become the incredible shrinking women by getting rid of the yellow bulky fat and gaining some of the lean red muscle. I'd much rather gain 5 pounds of muscle than 5 pounds of fat. Thanks for providing informative links. emoticon

I guess they need to say "inch for inch or Square Cm for Square Cm" muscle weighs more than fat. You are right about that. I'm just in favor of getting rid of the less dense stuff.

I hate those illogical statements too. Is the concept volume too difficult to master? But not everybody has had (or even liked or remember) chemistry, physics and basic science.

Tried a new fruit today: A Lemon Plum

Friday, February 26, 2010

The other day I was at the grocery store buying some produce for myself and Gabby(african grey) when I came across a new type of PLUM a LEMON PLUM. As I am trying to add more & new foods into my diet I thought I'd purchase one to try.

Now the only thing I could find on the Lemon Plum was from a site called Best Fruit Now www.bestfruitnow.com/fruit-guide/fru

This is what they have to say: "We in the business call this plum the Chameleon plum. It starts out green in color, then ripens to a bright yellow, then takes on hints of red before becoming a full orange red. So, the hard part is getting them just right. I suggest buying them yellow and eating them right away or you can wait until there is a hint of red. Usually by the time the color becomes full red the inside is starting to dry out."

IMO It sure looked pretty nice yellow mine was starting to change colors I had it for 2 days before I tried it. I like sweet fruits and taste this was not sweet to me for me my taste buds it was sour and I tasted a bit of lemon in it. So I would not buy this particular fruit again just not to my liking, emoticon Made I did not give it long enough but 3 bites is all it took for me to make up my mind emoticon

I saw these at my local Publix store and bought a couple that were yellow and a couple that had a reddish hue. I tried one of each & the yellow one was sour like an unripe plum, but the red one tasted like a very sweet & juicy ripe plum. It was the sweetest plum I've had in a couple of years and I can't wait to buy more. I went back and bought the rest of the stock that they had (which wasn't very much, maybe 12 in all). I hope they get more in soon, and now I know to buy them yellow and let them sit on the counter for a day or so to ripen.
I'm like you and LOVE my fruit sweet sweet sweet! Even though the inside was very sweet & juicy the outside still had a little bit of tartness to it but NOTHING like eating it yellow emoticon

My game plan for March

Wednesday, February 24, 2010

Wow another month and must think of what my goals desires & hopes for the mew month will be. I can tell ya with out review February that it was not a great month for me Time ot buckle down and get back on the wagon

Three areas to concentrate on Health/fitness - Nutrition & finally Personal

1st Health/ fitness: to begin with I am going ot check out the local 24/7 fitness center I think I need to boost my workout a bit and that would be @ a gym If I feel its a good price ( my employer has a setup to get discount for the gym)

Strength training 3 times a week 30 minutes a session if I stick with home workout it will be doing Gold's Gym Resistance Band workout

Cardio will consist of walking and using Tl Gazelle 30 minutes 4 times a week

Get more sleep aim for 6 to 7 hours a night

Really need to add flexibility workout 2 times a week either DVD and or Denise Austin workout book Sculpt Your Body with Balls and Bands it has a section for stretching in it (if I can find where I placed the book)

Nutrition: 8 8 ounces of H2O daily, add new foods into my diet try something new weekly, & for one team challenge to eat something green daily (you know March St Patty's Day)

Personal: working on my genealogy once again, read 2 books this month (I will be picking up my new eye glasses in 7 to 10 days so I'll be able to see to read), fix the kitchen sink faucet, install the last ceiling fan.

As my hours have been cut by 5 hours a week I will have extra time on my hands I want to put to good use. March is my month I will do it/ can do it. As always I am open for change if I need to revise my game plan through the month I will

    Hi Linda,
I liked you're ideas for March. They have given me an idea for myself. This month has been bad for me. It has been so cold I don't want to move from out of the chair under my blanket. It's got to get better though! Good luck with all you strive for

Good planning ahead. March is doctor month for me. I take my 90 year old mother-in-law and she has 3 doctor's appmts and I have 3 doctor's appmts. Plus we get our hair cut on the same day. In between I'll have to work on Spark.

Things I am not willing to do to help myself along this journey

Monday, February 22, 2010

I have to take my hat off to team leader KATMOMMA3 of team 10000steps Always awesome questions to get you thinking about what you are or aren't doing on this journey. Today question was:

3 things I am NOT willing to do to help myself on this weight loss/health/fitness journey?

Now IMO I feel that we all do things that either makes our journey a little easier or we hinder our growth on the adventure. Back to the question what I am doing or not doing?

First I am not willing to starve myself and/ or feel deprived by a strict diets. Been there done that not traveling that road again. It gets really old living by a certain number of calories weighing and logging every morsel, etc.

What I am doing eating what I want in MODERATION that way I am not feeling deprived of anything. Plus I'm eating more sweets yes I said "SWEETS" though not the kind you are most likely thinking about FRUITS is my new choice of Sweets

Second No fad diets for me or gimmicks (aka diet pills or surgery) done the pills and patches and fad diets NOt in this life time that gets old as well and BORING.

What am I doing - I'm moving this big old body on my own may take longer but I have no finish date to end this journey on anyway so why rush things. Slow and steady wins the race.

Third I will not track my foods and live my life that way. I hated the feeling of being part of a chain gang the old ball and chain dragging me down and depressing me. Takes away my life I am limited to where I can go I'm not hauling the food scale all over the place. For me not a way to live by. Gets OLD and got old really quick. Besides my thin friends don't track and count every morsel they eat so why should I? I want to be the thin person in a thin persons body and not a thin person in a fat person body. If I feel trapped I go back to old ways.

What I am willing to do when I have choices is to make the best possible choice between my options and the key word again is MODERATION.

So there is what I am not willing to do to help me along this journey. I need it as uncomplicated as possible to work for me. I am not a fan of anything complicated.

I agree completely. It just so demoralizing to be recording each and every litle bite and all. I know they say it works, but come on! Thats not living. As long as there is balance in your life, the weight loss will come by itself. I'm given to an all or nothing approach myself and I'm working on getting balanced again. So good luck, and keep going. And you're right, there is no end-by date in life!

I think you are wise to do what works for you. The wonderful thing about SP is they just offer what things have been known to help people in general and you pick and choose what works. I have used the tracker since December but now I want to track less . I will just use it as a gauge based on how much exercise I am doing. Ie this week I am doing 20 min so my calorie range goes down. I am working my way to moderation but I am WEAK in general. WTG on doing what works for you

I agree with you. While I am using the nutrition tracker to see my calorie intake, I am not depriving myself because I am worried about added calories. I do just like you, eat in moderation, eat what I want, make better choices when I can, and enjoy the eating process. some days my calorie intake may be over, but on a weekly average I an burning more than I am taking in. By using this web site to track calories, water consumed, and daily exercise I find that it is helping to keep me on a track. I've only been on here about a month and have learned a lot!

I've never used a Food Fcale in my Life- unless U count the one on the Produce Isle! (lol) But I have and do use common sense regarding what a Portion Size is- by keeping track of how much I eat and exercise every day- its stood me well on my continuing journey with overall health & weight maintenance.

Its what works for each of us that matters? If your successful NOT doing it the Spark's Way? Then I applaud you! And Fad Diets only work in a temporary way.
As for the Tracking Food and Exercise? Again, if you don't know how much your body needs to work and fuel properly? Then how can it work properly? Your car tells you when it needs Gas/Oil/ Tires, you can't ignore it can you? And Hunger for people that have spent a Life Time over indulging is often a common reaction that passes in time.

I wish U luck and keep Sparking. emoticon
