I Think I Met My 10+ Fitness Minute Goal Today

emoticonStarted this morning with an almost 4 mile walk. It was below freezing so I just walked --QUICKLY!--around the block, then went inside Curves to finish my walk on the (warm!) Recovery Boards.
emoticonI worked the Afternoon Shift at Curves, and got to take Two Potential New Members ~~ A Mother & Daughter ~ through their First Workout!! They are going to try a Free Week, and then decide if they want to join. I REALLY do LOVE working at Curves, and not just because it gives me a chance to get A LOT of steps in!
emoticonSeveral of you have asked about Sparky the Rescue Turtle, aka The Mascot of the Turtles Over 50 Spark Team. He is doing Great, but has just about outgrown his 10 Gallon Aquarium Home. I think he is going to get the 50 Gallon Aquarium as soon as I can figure out where we are going to put it. AND how to clean the silly thing!! It is hard enough to clean and change the water in this one. He is VERY Lucky that I had NO IDEA how big he would get when I found him!!

    You will need a large, external cannister filter, rated for (at least) double the volume of the new tank. So if he's getting a 50 gal. tank, the filter has to be rated for a minimum of 100 gallons. The bigger it is, the less often it needs cleaning. The nice thing about the canister filters is that they don't go in the tank and therefore it's a little easier to deal with cleaning them. He will be so excited!!! I think I had an Eheim, but not remembering 100%.

Remembering January 17, 2011 & A New Hobby?

emoticonI didn't realize until this morning that it was One Year Ago yesterday when I was Officially Invited to New York to be on the Rachael Ray Show. On the 19th of January ~ A Year Ago Tomorrow ~ there was a Film crew here to do the "Back Story" and film some Video for the "At Home" part of my segment on the show. The following Sunday, Gary and I were on a Plane headed to New York! Rachael Ray paid for my ticket and the Hotel, but Curves paid for Gary's ticket so that he could go too. We did NOT have any way of buying the tickets.
emoticonIt was a Great Trip and I enjoyed it more than I can say.
emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticonHard to believe that it is One Year Later and I am STILL Walking and Maintaining my Weight and my Gym Membership!!
And I am Still learning new things every day from all of You and from Spark People Articles.
emoticonI have decided to try my hand at knitting again. Back when I was in High School I LOVED knitting. I went out today and bought Needles, Yarn, and a Beginning Knitting Book. I started a Neckscarf today. We shall see how it goes.

    I REALLY want to learn to knit!!! I think Mary and I are going to visit my MIL for the weekend sometime and have her give us lessons. That was SO NICE of curves to pay for Gary's ticket! HOW EXCITING that you've maintained consistently and with enthusiasm for a year after the show!

emoticon emoticon emoticonI woke up this morning to discover that I had been Voted Motivator of The Day! I was blown away by all of your Comments, Spark Goodies, and SparkMails. In so many ways I do not feel that I am worthy of all I have received today. But the one thing that I want to say to all of you is that YOU are why I am here. Right from the first time that I Logged On to this site I have felt Encouraged, Supported, and Empowered. Without the Unconditional, Constant Support of my SparkFriends ~ And My 'Real Life' Curves Friends And Family ~ I would not be here today, and I certainly would NEVER have been considered 'Inspirational' or a Motivator Of The Day.
emoticonOn the way to my Day Job, I pulled in to "Our" 7-11 to get gas and found a pile of 19 Pennies behind my Car!! Too bad I needed more than 19 cents worth of gas, LOL!!
emoticonI got off work a teeny bit early, so I was able to go by the Gym on the way to my EveningJob and jump on the Elliptical for 30 minutes (2.27 miles!!).
emoticonTuesdays and Fridays are Very Challenging Food Wise (that is a whole other Blog entirely!) but when I got off work this evening No Way was I going to come home and cook. Hubby met me at Chili's and I had the Guiltless Grill Salmon Platter. Since I 'Just Happened' to have several packets of Green Tea in my purse, I even got to have a healthy drink! I have not tracked my Food yet, but I am pretty sure that I did OK, Calorie-Wise.
emoticonIt was 24 degrees tonight, but No Way did Gary and I want to miss our Walk to 7-11. We have walked for 10+ Minutes for 277 days in a row!! We found another 13 cents in the Parking Lot, and the clerks had saved 2 Pears for me!! I am not sure that this day could get any better!!

Well done on keeping your calories in check in spite of going out to Chili's -didn't think they had any low calorie meals (I didn't see any salmon on our menu here :()
You work hard at getting your steps in each day, frequently going well over that standard of 10,000. If that isn't motivating, what is??

emoticonI am REALLY tired of the Wind!! I know that I am lucky that I don't have the low temperatures that some of you do, or the Snow and Ice. I do feel bad for those of you who are having to deal with that.
emoticonIt was almost 70 degrees here today, but because it was so windy, after work I decided to go to the Gym and ride the Recumbent Bike rather than fight the wind again. I got in 7.29 miles in 40 minutes.
emoticonGary had to work late, and when I got home, it was still daylight. So, I could not resist a quick 20 minute walk. Well, like my SparkFriend 2Kitties reminded me, at least the wind adds Strength Training to my Walks, LOL!!
emoticonWhen Gary got home, he had time to eat Dinner and then it was time to walk to 7-11. I think we were both kind of glad to make it a short walk tonight. And, to add insult to injury, they were out of Pears at the store!!! GRRR!!!!

Windy Walking & Shark Diving

emoticonIt is Funny how much I look forward to my Sunday Morning walks. It is hard to believe that I really do walk just because I enjoy it. Maybe something has changed in my DNA? I walked to 7-11 this morning to get Coffee before Church. I really think that I would walk even if the Coffee wasn't involved.
emoticonGary had gone Golfing, and I really planned on a Long Walk at the Park because the temperature was to be in the 60s today. Only problem was that the wind was blowing at almost 30 mph, making it seem A LOT colder than it really was. Plus it isn't any fun walking in it. We should get extra Spark Points or an Extra Calorie burn when the wind is that bad. I only walked 25 minutes in the Park, then decided that it would be Much More FUN to get my Nails done. So....Off to Wal-Mart I went!!
emoticonI got home in time to see most of an episode of "Tanked" on Animal Planet. If you aren't familiar with it, the program is about a Family in Las Vegas that builds custom Aquariums. They are beyond anything I could imagine, and I don't even want to think about what one would cost just to maintain. I haven't watched it a lot, but I have enjoyed the episodes I have seen. On the episode today they were in New York to build an aquarium for a Child. While they were there they got to go on a Shark Dive. They were in a Steel Cage surrounded by Full Grown Sharks!! I SO want to do that!! It is the Number One thing on my Bucket List!! I have No Idea why, but I think it would be FABULOUS!!

emoticonAfter Dinner, in spite of the wind, we walked to 7-11--a little over 2 miles. That gave me a total of 10, 997 steps with my Walks. I didn't quite make my Goal of 500 Calories Burned today, but it is a "Rest Day" so I am OK with that.

    Don't think that I will be swimming with the sharks during THIS lifetime...the #1 thing on MY bucket list...is to get rid of my BUCKET...as in rear end...haha...Take care & keep up the good work...

And walking in the snow should get extra points too! emoticon I would have totally opted for the nails too! I dislike walking in the wind! Also, your #1 on your bucket list has me in stitches!     The wind here is frequently pretty bad, and when it gets combined with our icy temperatures (-14F) it becomes just plain dangerous to be outside, skin freezes in seconds, which is why they give us windchill values too. I do miss being outside walking. So boring going around and around the small area in my building.
Keep up the fabulous work -10,000 steps for a 'rest' day is pretty darned good!!
