Getting Back on Track

The last couple weeks, I have taken a couple steps back with my progress. I put back on a couple pounds that I had lost, and was not so diligent with eating healthy, working out, and tracking. Since we just recently got home, we have had lots of people to visit. That has resulted in a few more drink, and not the best food choices.

The backstep has made me re-assess my goals. I realized that part of the problem is my goal was to broad. It was just a number and a date. That is still in place, but I needed to put a plan behind the goal for it to mean anything. So that is exactly what I have done!

Yesterday I started the couch to 5k program. I will do this 3 days a week (Mon, Weds, Fri). The in between days, I will be going to the gym to use stationary bikes, elliptical, or swimming for variety. As well as that, I am incorporating more strength training into my routine. I'm also going to try Zumba for the first time with a friend next week. I'm excited for that!

I have started a journal that is small and fits in my purse, so even if I do not have computer access I can still track all my calories. During the week at work, I find it pretty easy. It is the weekend when I miss days. I will track and write down everything including drinks which tend to add up quickly.

I'm glad I caught myself slacking before sliding any further. I'm a little sore today after yesterdays workout, but I feel great! I'm off to the gym in an hour!

Back to Reality

It has been a month since my last blog, and my how things have changed! I was wanting to blog more regularly, but our computer died. I have been unable to consistantly track on Sparkpeople, but am looking forward to getting back on track.

I am now back in Canada and doing my best to deal with the cold! 15-20 degrees celcuis is normal here for this time of year and we have seen a couple mid 20 days. Most people are out in tshirts, but Tim and I are to cold to take off our sweaters!

Our last couple weeks in Cozumel were amazing. Our whole time there was some of the best times of my life. We had lots of fun seeing and saying goodbye to all the amazing friends we had met. We also got in as many dives as possible. I ended up doing 58 dives since getting certified in early January. I miss diving already!

On April 28th, we started our journey home. 7 days and 7000km later, we got back to Canada. During the road trip it was harder to work out, but easier to make better eating choices.

Last week was spent visiting with family and friends. I was able to get in activity like bocce ball with friends, riding bikes and going for walks, and playing with my niece and nephew.

I returned to work this week, and so far the transition is going well. Now I am working on setting up positive routines here. Tomorrow I will start going back to the gym at work. Also since we replaced our computer at home, and I have one at work also, I will start posting and tracking more.

Today was my weekly weigh in and I was suprised to see I am down 11lbs since I signed up for Sparkpeople! I think it is mostly due to the fact I am more aware of what I am eating. I am pumped to see the progress as I start to work out consistantly.

Viva Cozumel!

Hola! I have had the pleasure of spending the last 6 months in the tropical paradise, Cozumel Mexico. Although I have used the time to be more active, I still put on 7 pounds here. I fell in love with scuba diving, and usually make it out 2-3 times a week. I also swim in the ocean on a fairly regular basis. My downfall has been the food and drinks. The food here is incredible, cheap, and available everywhere. Daily there are guys who go up and down streets selling ice cream and pan dulce (sweet bread). As well, it is not uncommon to meet up with friend for cervesas. I did not realize just how many calories it added until I recently started tracking calories!
We have to pack up and start the drive home in 11 days, so I am starting to establish workout and healthy eating habits before we get home. I'm so happy I found Sparkpeople, because it seems like a great source of advice and encouragement. I have tried to lose weight in the past, but have lacked the drive and motivation. I'm excited for the path ahead this time.

    SUch luxury to be able to dive anytime throughout the week. Wouldn't it be great to live right beside a great dive site!

    OMG! I love Cozumel and would love to be there that long! We usually go for a 2 week vacation every year! Considering all that doll 7 lbs is not bad at all!
