"Reaching Goal is Not an Excuse to Quit!"

Thursday, June 23, 2011

I spent considerable time writing a blog with the above title. When I tried to post it, it wouldn't post and I lost it trying to bring it back to life.

But just wanted you to know that "quitting is not an option" no matter at what point we are in life.

That's really all we need to know.

emoticon for all your help. emoticon

My goal is still being worked on but I would agree. Once we get there we still have to be mindful of how we eat and exercise or all our work will have been in vain. I enjoy your blogs, Liz. Thanks for posting, pat

emoticonI so long to reach my goal this time and actually STAY there! You can do this, because you know you can't quit! I thought I was "healed" and slowly went back to old habits. Show us how maintenance is done! emoticon

Something Better Than Losing Pounds

Sunday, June 19, 2011

I'm being asked the question, "Have you lost that last pound before goal yet?". I've even asked myself the question; "Why haven't I lost that last pound yet?"

The answer today is, "No".

However, I rummaged through my clothes closet this morning to find something different to wear to church, appropriate for celebrating Father's Day with DH. I pulled out a sweet little dress that was absolutely too snug to wear the last time I tried it on

I tried it on anyway. It fit perfectly! I actually was close to tears about it. Which also means that my other 'skinny clothes" hanging there will also fit nicely.
My exercising is paying off---if not in pounds---in inches! I love it!

So if someone inquires again, I can say, "No. But.... there is something better."

This picture was taken at dinner with DH at Salsa's Mexican Restaurant today, in my 'something better' dress? What a great way to celebrate Father's Day!!!!

    What a wonderful picture!
I had a similar experience this week....the scales showed a loss but not as much as I had hoped. I had to find something casual to wear over the weekend & thought that I would try my old (uk size 12) favourite jeans which I had assumed would be way too tight, but to my surprise & delight they fitted! emoticon Now will I dare to go up in the attic & try some of the other "skinny" clothes I have up there? emoticon

Zumba Works For Me!

Saturday, June 18, 2011

I fit right in with the Zumba class today. emoticon

Guess what? I wasn't perfect. In spite of that, I did quite well for a beginner, and felt wonderful with the rest of the group. emoticon

Surprisingly for me, I wore the appropriate dark tights and top for the first time....and did not feel a bit self conscious! In fact, I looked GOOD! emoticon

Zumba is strenuous , but tons of fun! It definitely fills the bill for a great fitness workout. emoticon

So add Zumba to my weekly schedule , along with Kettlebells, Water Aerobics and Walking with DH. emoticon

Is A Plateau Really Necessary?

Saturday, June 11, 2011

Please. If anyone can answer my question, "Is a plateau really necessary?"

Since I got to the point (on my scale) weeks ago of only 1/2 pound to goal, it will not budge one ounce downward...and even goes UP!

I'm staying within my recommended calorie range and exercising 5-6 days weekly. Yes, and even switching those things up a bit.

I am scratching my head. Is it absolutely necessary that people plateau out? If so, why? My wonderful Spark Friends have cheered me on and supported me, telling me I am almost there.

And what has happened? Stopped in my tracks. Not slowly losing as usual, but stopped!

Just asking...

I don't know whether plateaus are necessary, but I am using my current plateau to learn new things about my body and my lifestyle.

Keep it up! We will get there!

NO_SNOW_BODY 6/13/2011 9:40AM

I have been through several plateaus, wish they waited until i was within 1/2 pound of goal. I had a four month plateau where no matter what I did the weight wouldn't budge, but I lost 2 dresses sizes during that time. A scale is just tht, it weighs ounces and pounds, it can not determine what our bodies are doing, a number does not define all the work, just telling you what others have told me. It will move and with your perserverence it will stay within your range. Ouyr bodies never stay at a singel weight from day to day, they varie depending on water intake, BM's and even heat and cold, just have fith in yourself and the rest will follow.

Don't be too concerned with what the scale says. Your exercizing so your building muscle and muscle weighs more than fat. So go by how you look and feel and how your clothes fit and not the scale!! And by the way, I checked out your look wonderful!!

I had a five week plateau that just went down this morning a pound and a half! I think our bodies decide when they budge, not us, unfortunately!

This may seem crazy but have you considered that your scales are faulty? A few months ago my scales told me that I weighed 146lbs and did so for weeks & weeks. Then my daughter told me that she weighed the same. Thinking that this was unlikely I decided to weigh the dog & yes he weighed 146lbs too! Needless to say I got some new scales & discovered that I weighed 15lbs more!! emoticon I promptly started to look for ways to lose weight & thankfully found SP. I am now 17lbs lighter and losing! emoticon

get more freggies - that helps me to break a plateau.

I agree with MAWDOT - your body is at a "set point" and you have to break through it.

When I am near goal, it can take me multiple tries for every pound to stay off. Perseverance really does pay off though.

Sometimes our bodies just don't want to give up any extra weight. It says enough is enough. You're doing a great job. Keep doing what you're doing. I know it might sound crazy, but you could try eating a little more. Give your body a little extra fuel so it might be willing to give up a little more of the weight you don't want. Either way, you're doing awesome and look great!

emoticon Sometimes I think our bodies are smarter than we are! When we reach the point where diet and exercise are balanced at a point of no loss and no gain, our bodies take some time to adjust. Perhaps the metabolism slows down a bit. If we just continue on a healthy program, things should balance out. If not, increasing the activity slightly may get things moving again. You have done so well! Just keep at it! Blessings, Nadine

I wish I had a magic answer or formula for that matter! I've been stuck on my plateau too; scale goes up and down and I keep tracking calories, running and strength training despite the dumb number. I've determined it's nuts LOL but I'm not giving up; we will conquer this last darn pound together!! emoticon
