My little Rant on Diet Pill Commercials

Sunday, May 31, 2009

Just an observation.
I work out in the morning and since I need visual stimulation while using the elliptical, I watch TV as opposed to listening to music.
At 8 am, it can be a challenge to find something to watch that keeps my interest so I am not focusing on how much time I have left to go.
I have taken notice of how many miracle diet infomercials and commercials offering miraculous results are on that early in the morning. It's just amazing and not in a good way. They always show people in the before and after pics and also how much weight they have lost just taking this so called wonder pill they are hawking. The part that gets me the most is that these people are pretty buff and cut after starting this "diet program". The funny, or I should say, sad part is that in reality, you don't get that way just taking a pill. There has to be exercise involved and I have yet to hear any of these people say they did any form of exercise.
It's just so deceiving and heartbreaking, especially to those who have tried all kinds of things to lose weight and may be at a desperate point in their lives, to think they have finally found the answer to their prayers.
And it makes me angry that these programs pray on people who may be willing to try anything to lose weight.
All of us here at SP know there has to be exercise as well as healthy eating to lose weight and maintain that loss.
So, I find myself talking back and sometimes yelling at the TV screen. Silly, I know. But it just really bothers me. It's just so wrong!

Has anyone else seen any of these commercials and felt this way?

I have seen several of the ads and they are misleading. I have seen Alli too, and they are they only pills that has received FDA approval so far. While I don't like promoting pills, these are most likely better than any of the others. But I would encourage people to stay clear of them because many people take the pills expeciting magical results and they don't always have other good habits. The pills alone won't help without the other lifestyle changes. If the pills were marketed better, clearly letting consumers know they are only a small part of the equation, I would be more accepting of them.

Alli is the big rage that just hit denmark, many people now complain about diarre and horrible smelling gas all the time.. They have to wait a year to see any effects and this medication can run up in huge amounts of money..

Memorial Day Reflection

Monday, May 25, 2009

Today is a good day to reflect on all the men and women serving in the military and those who have lost their lives doing so. Their ultimate sacrifice kept this country free.
It's more than just a day for get togethers, BBQ's, and a day off from work.
Remember and honor them.

Have a safe and blessed Memorial Day!

I live in denmark and appreciate the work these fine young men and women do. I think many other countries feel if it doesn't happen in their own back yard why worry. We all should be worried and help. hugs Rena.

Great sentiments. I went to a Memorial Day event for the holiday. There were speeches, skits, and songs and dances honoring vets, those here and those gone, and they had lots of food and I was glad I didn't partake in all the goodies.

A Little Detour

Tuesday, May 19, 2009

It's been a busy week here already and today I missed getting in my strength training .
It bothers me a little bit, but I have not been getting a whole lot of sleep the last couple of nights and was feeling a little run down and not as strong as I usually do. I am also somewhat sore from from my last workout and also from doing quite a bit of lifting at work the last 2 days.
Actually, I think I needed a little break to allow my body to recover.
So, tomorrow it's back on schedule.
Sometimes a little detour, can regenerate the mind, body, spirit.

Celebrate You this Mother's Day!

Tuesday, May 05, 2009

This Sunday is Mother's Day.
It's a special day set aside to recognize our Mom's and all they have done for us.
Growing up, I didn't always appreciate what my Mom was trying to teach me to help me grow and be a good person.
As a teenager, like most teenagers, I thought I knew everything and had all the answers. Boy was I wrong!
As I became an adult and matured over the years, things started to click. Maybe Mom really did know what she was talking about. And although, I didn't appreciate her wisdom and not so subtle guidance as a child, to me she was strict and mean, I am so thankful for it now.
She taught me to be respectful, thoughtful, caring, and kind. To treat others the way I want to be treated.
Thank you Mom!

So, to all the Mom's out there, Sunday is your extra special day!
Know that it's ok to not be your child's best friend all the time, but it is very important to be a parent to that child all the time. They may get mad at you and think your the worst person ever but believe me, even if they don't appreciate it now, they will later. It will dawn on them what you were trying to instill in them.

So to all the Mother's out there, Happy Mother's Day!
You deserve your day!
