Off the wagon for a day ~ Not a good feeling

Friday, October 10, 2014

My day started off not by going to the gym. Finding out that both mom's and my car were broke into. Guess we didn't help any by leaving them unlock. Didn't get much just about $10.00 in change in both cars and a old camera. Nothing police can do emoticon

So on the way to work went straight to Bill MIller's for a sweet tea (man it was good). Eating for the days wasn't bad til I went to HEB for almond milk on the way home. Been craving chocolate chip cookies since before September so I gave in. Also, picked a gallon of sweet tea and headed home.

On the way home I had THREE cookies (didn't make me feel better). What did it matter no one saw me eat them. Got home had a sandwich (real bread can't have), gluten free chips and a glass of sweet tea. Watched the Biggest Loser. Before going to bed had to more cookies. These cookies are NOT small one. They are good size home made like ones.

This morning feeling like crap. No gym this morning either. Body is have the shakes like it does when me and my body are at war.

Hoping I learned from this. Living with Hashimoto's doesn't go away just because you are having a bad day. It will win. emoticon emoticon

Hashimoto's are what?

Sunday, October 05, 2014

Well I went and saw a glandular specialist. Know a little more but not how to fix it. He had to do his own blood work and a ultrasound of my thyroid. Learned that my thyroid was enlarged and that I didn't have Graves disease. also, the thyroid medication is the right dosage.

Was hoping that he would explain more and would tell me how to fix it. I asked questions but only answered a few. He told me that stress had a lot to do with Hashimoto's. So I guess I did this to myself. Saying he wanted to wait for the blood work to come back. Okay I get this but couldn't we start fixing it just in case? All he told me to do was come back in two months and retest.

So I go back on line to find things out and how I have information over load emoticon Gluten free is going to be hard and so is giving up sweet tea and chai. Been having headaches everyday. Gave into the tea and chai thing a few times and yes the headaches did go away.

I go back to my gp on the 23rd so I am making a list of things to ask . Hoping she will be better with her answers.

Going to take it one day at a time. Going to try and force myself to get back into the gym. My stress release has always been my riding. So that is another thing I'm going to have to force myself to do!

oh, nothing like having MORE questions when you leave the doctors office. Hoping your GP gives you more answeres. You CAN break that habit of your tea! It's hard, but you can do it. If I gave up Dr. Pepper (which I call liquid heroin!) then anything is possible! emoticon

Hypothyroidism, Hashimoto and Hyperthyroidism and more!!!

Thursday, September 18, 2014

Nothing like trying to fix one problem only to find out that you have several more. Been having issues with my stomach and blotting. Every time I would eat I would feel like crap. No matter what I ate. Had a friend that went to a Holistic doctor and she got good results. Thought that maybe they could do something for me.

I went to a meet up to see what I could learn before actually seeing the doctor. We were talking and he told me several things that made me feel like this would work for me. Had blood work done and then met up with him for the results. WOW!! was that an eye opener. I know that some doctors like this will scare you so that you will buy into their program. Blood work doesn't lie.

The blood work came back with me having hypothyroidism, Hashimoto and hyperthyroidism. Plus hyperglycemia and being pretty low on iron. And the iron that I do have isn't being used right.

So how do we fix this? First pay $3200 and then we can work on learning how to eat and exercise. Everything I've been eating has been messing with my thyroid. I can't have an cruciferous vegetables or fruits. That includes brussel sprouts, rutabagas, turnips, radishes, cauliflower, potatoes, corn, millet, cabbage, peaches, pears, strawberries, mustard greens, spinach, African cassava, and kale. Workouts that I've been doing are also working against me. I have gone from being able to walk 6 to 8 miles, stairs and inclines but now just going 3 miles wears me out. My insurance won't pay for a Holistic doctor so we won't be going this route.

Trying to get into see my doctor but she has no openings til second week of October. Already had an appointment for the 23rd so I'll just wait it out I guess. Tried to get into a Endocrinologist but they won't see me until my doctor refers me to them. So now the waiting game begins.

Anyone out there have this issue?

Once I get into see a Endocrinologist I'll up date.

Okay, I researched this and found out that you can have both. This is what I mainly found out --

You Have Both Hashimoto's and Graves'

Some patients actually have both Hashimoto's and Graves' disease antibodies, which puts the thyroid into a push-pull situation, where it cycles up and down through hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism. This is not a very common situation, but hypothyroidism patients who frequently have hyperthyroidism symptoms should ask their doctors for full antibody profiles to detect the presence of both Hashimoto's thyroiditis and Graves' disease.

Your Symptoms Aren't Textbook

Everyone who has hypothyroidism doesn't follow the typical course of symptoms. Some hypothyroidism patients will, for example, lose substantial amounts of weight - rather than gain weight. And others will have anxiety or panic attacks as a symptom of their condition.

Sorry to be so mis-informed before I wrote my previous post. Definitely get a referral to an endocrinologist though.

As a nurse for over 20 years, I have never seen a patient diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism. I'm going to research it and get back to you. Definitely see your primary doc and get a referral to an endocrinologist. And also take a copy of your lab results with you when you see your doc.

My sister-in-law has hashimoto's. She has a very short list of foods she CAN eat and I am always looking for good websites with recipes for her. Check out realfoodrecipes.com. That one's pretty good. I wish you the best of luck as you learn what you can eat and how to make it taste good. I know it can be rough. I will keep you in my thoughts.

How I plan to celebrate my 51st Birthday

Tuesday, May 28, 2013

This morning I had my first meeting with my coach Bobbi Amaker ~ Certified Level I coach at USA Triathlon South Midwest Region. She has agreed to work with me and get me a cross the finish line of my first Sprint Distance Triathlon!

I'm a little scared but I know that I can do anything I put my mind to and this is something I've been wanting for a really long time. It will be an open water swim something I've NEVER done but I know with the help of my coach I will do this.

God has blessed me with the friendship of the lady. I've known her since my first Team in Training event when she was my coach for the half marathon. She is an awesome person to have on your side.

Riding to Castorville with Jammie the Spin Instructor!

Monday, January 28, 2013

I've been trying to ride with Jammie for the last couple of years but it's never happen. Today it did~what was I thinking! Jammie is a spin instructor at Gold's Gym. I haven't taken her class but I will now. After our ride she was called in to do a class.

We met up at the Exxon on 471 to ride 4 miles short of Castorville. Getting ready she made the comment that it was a little windy(boy was it). We took off and so did the winds. Seemed like for every curve that had no head winds there were two more with straight head winds. Never got a tail wind.

All I can say is that that was the hardest ride I've done in 2 1/2 years. But boy was it fun! Dead but so worth it!

Thanks Jammie! Hope we get to ride again soon and that I get to take your class soon too!

Let me know if you ever want to cycle... Have road bike, love to work my legs and I am off from work during the week often! Have you ever done that hill off 471 near that Exxon station? All I can say is I LOVE MY GEARS!!!!!! Ride happy. Dana emoticon
