How I plan to celebrate my 51st Birthday

This morning I had my first meeting with my coach Bobbi Amaker ~ Certified Level I coach at USA Triathlon South Midwest Region. She has agreed to work with me and get me a cross the finish line of my first Sprint Distance Triathlon!

I'm a little scared but I know that I can do anything I put my mind to and this is something I've been wanting for a really long time. It will be an open water swim something I've NEVER done but I know with the help of my coach I will do this.

God has blessed me with the friendship of the lady. I've known her since my first Team in Training event when she was my coach for the half marathon. She is an awesome person to have on your side.

Riding to Castorville with Jammie the Spin Instructor!

I've been trying to ride with Jammie for the last couple of years but it's never happen. Today it did~what was I thinking! Jammie is a spin instructor at Gold's Gym. I haven't taken her class but I will now. After our ride she was called in to do a class.

We met up at the Exxon on 471 to ride 4 miles short of Castorville. Getting ready she made the comment that it was a little windy(boy was it). We took off and so did the winds. Seemed like for every curve that had no head winds there were two more with straight head winds. Never got a tail wind.

All I can say is that that was the hardest ride I've done in 2 1/2 years. But boy was it fun! Dead but so worth it!

Thanks Jammie! Hope we get to ride again soon and that I get to take your class soon too!

    There is NOTHING like wind on a bike! I had a ride like that several years ago on scenic loop and I thought I might never ride again! Way to go! You are amazing. Let me know if you ever want to cycle... Have road bike, love to work my legs and I am off from work during the week often! Have you ever done that hill off 471 near that Exxon station? All I can say is I LOVE MY GEARS!!!!!! Ride happy. Dana emoticon

Goals for 2013 will be all about RIDING!!!

Riding makes me feel so a LIVE so this year I've decided I am getting back on the bike and shooting for 3000 miles! I have to have a goal in order for me to get that many miles in so here is my game plan!

April 27 ~ Fiesta Wildflower Ride~Metric Century

May 11 ~ Tour de Cure~Century

September ??? ~ 6th Annual Ride to Remember~Metric Century

October ??? ~ MS150

November ~Rock N' Roll Bike Tour

December~Mission to Mission Ride-

I have asked to have Monday and Wednesday evenings off so I can get in rides with the boys. Ray told me if I wanted to complete this goal he would push me as had hard as he can! You have to love friends like that!

God has blessed me with a body that loves to ride, friends that want to help and a will that will do anything with a goal! So let the MILES begain!

First ride of the season was a lone ride with God on last Saturday and I was able to get in 23.85 miles and hoping to have many more.

    I love that WildFlower ride! We will be up in Marble falls that week end for a Triathlon. (my husband this time!) Sounds like you have a lot of great times to look forward too. And I have to admit I thought to myself you have a lot of tires to fix! I actually don't mind fixing flats! For my birthday last year I got a really nice pair of tires! Love them. Hope you have a blast on your journey to these rides! We need to cycle together.

From 2005 til December 31, 2012

These photos are from 2005 weighing in at 231ish, 2007 (210ish) plus others.

I decided it was time to see where I was when I moved back from Dallas until today. I was my heaviest in Dallas at 241 but I can't find that photo. The one in 2005 was just a few months before I got to come home and I was at 231. It's the shot with blonde hair. And to think I thought I looked good in that outfit for my nieces wedding(NOT). The one in Team in Training shirt was my first half marathon in 2007 around 210. The others are in that time frame too.

This one was taken this afternoon after the gym. Not really the best to show how far I've come. This morning when I weighed in it was 174.4. I've been down to 171 for a few days.

In 2005 I was wearing a tight 10 and today I can fit into 12s and 14s depending on the cut. I even fit into my daddy's jeans which are a Levi 35 shrink to fit 201's no stretch there.

I'm on the right track and hope that 2013 will bring me to my goal weight of somewhere between 140 to 150.

Sagging Skin vs. Being Over Weight

Okay just wondering how others deal with this. I've lost just over 70 pounds and still have about 30 to go. I let myself get up to 241 pounds before I had enough and started my journey and I've been on it for about 11 years now. I've been over weight since the 4th grade and here is my question. How do you get rid of the sagging skin? My arms are the worst and I'm beginning to think that being over weight might just be better than looking at my arms. I am doing strength exercises but maybe just not enough. I need help with this so please help!

Thought I would add this part as well. One of the main reasons I dislike the sagging skin on my arms is because of the slapping sound it makes when I am using my arms to do my job.

    I think it all depends on whether the skin is damaged or just expanded. My stomach, for instance, went through a ton of damage during my pregnancies and I know that it will sag no matter what I do. My arms, on the other hand, I think are recovering okay - a little sagginess in the area where I had a lot of stretchmark damage but nothing terrible. I've heard on other groups that you can try to help with elasticity both with strength training which I know you're doing, and also with lotions that have collagen in them. You might give that a try, but it might not be a miracle worker either. I've also heard that it takes skin about three years to recover from weight loss, so maybe you just need time. *hugs*

    Being fat isn't better. Your skin will recover some, but much more slowly. Upper body strength training will help, but you have to give it some time.

    Well, chica, I've got sagging skin on my arms and my thighs because my skin has finally just given out, and I think it's awful. Especially the slapping, which is why I try not to dance around the house in my underwear, but I think that's a good rule anyway. However, I also think not being able to cross my legs, fit in cute clothes or airplane seats or theater seats or bus seats or restaurant seats or nice furniture or... well you get the idea, or wheezing while climbing a flight of stairs is also awful. So, I'm choosing my awful. I'm not planning on doing a nude photo shoot in Playboy or Hustler or Big Butt Bonanza or whatever when I reach goal weight, and I get the impression that isn't high up on your list of priorities, either. I think sagging skin is a small price to pay for good health and being able to last well into your 90s and beyond. Somebody has to give all these as-yet-unborn young people hell. I wish I knew of a way to tighten up loose skin. I've heard Strivectin works, but that stuff is so expensive, even if you buy it from Costco, and you have to keep using it or the effect goes away. Then there's that body wrap mess that they do at spas, but that whole "results may vary" disclaimer really has me scratching my head. Have you posted the question in the forums? I'm sure somebody on this site knows something. Hang in there! And may I say, I'm very impressed by all the workouts your getting in. You are kicking my butt!

    I just try not to think about it and wear clothes and colors I like!

I remember that my image relies more on what I can do instead of what I look like.

And I dye my hair red to distract others!

    I understand because I will also have lots of sagging skin because of years of being overweight. I have lost about 63 lbs and have many more to go. Someone on SP said that you can call a burn center and sometimes they will remove excess skin free in order to use the skin for burn victims. I am not sure if that is true but hopefully it is because I have no insurance and cannot afford to get excess skin removed.

I think it is still better to lose the weight and deal with the excess skin because the excess weight affects our health.
