Bonus Points

Tuesday, July 17, 2012

I borrowed this from SARASMILING. She posted it on her blog this morning and I thought it was a great exercise to perform myself. We all have roadblocks that are keeping us from our goals.

BONUS (20 or 0 Points):
For the bonus this week, identify two 'personal roadblocks' that are hindering your success. We all have individual challenges or triggers that make it hard for us to make consistent progress towards our goals. Tackling these, head on, could help us get to our goals and stay there. Share your challenges with your team, along with at least 3 things you can do to begin to overcome those roadblocks.

My personal roadblocks:

1) snacking - I can't resist vegan sweets. If I find a vegan cookie I feel I deserve a treat and eat it. I know WF has vegan cookies so I will go directly to the bakery and buy 3 or 4 of them and eat one every night.

2) not measuring my portions - too much of a good thing is still too much.

How to overcome my roadblocks:

1) When the snack urge comes at 8pm I will drink a glass of water and meditate for 10 minutes.

2) If that doesn't work I will do dishes, do laundry, pick up clutter or clean something until it's too late to snack.

3) Start weighing and measuring my portions and track everything I put in my mouth. If I can't track I will write it down. Seeing it in writing is often eye opening.

I've had these challenges for a while. If you have read some of my blogs you know there is a recurring theme. I need to figure out why the snacking is such an issue for me now. Maybe through meditation I can work through that.

What are your roadblocks?

I have to be careful at night. If I eat early and my husband comes home late, I can end up with extra calories eating with him. I have to plan for that. And I definitely have to be careful around big bags of cashews. I'm logging what I eat, trying to plan for anytime I eat out, and trying to stay focused on long-term goals. I keep asking myself if what I am about to do fits in with that long-term goal.

Great challenge. thank you for sharing your weaknesses with us. some of my roadblocks are eating out (we eat out way too often) and when my schedule is changed (like for vacations) it is really hard for me to get back into my routine.

Cookies, ice cream (since it's hot), red vines..... I know they are there but buying them is the absolute worst cause I am the only one who will eat them. So I have to rush & finish them....YIKES! Trying not to buy them & eat a piece fruit or chew gum or drink water would be so much better for me....

God bless,

Dee

Taxes and personal finance are my roadblocks! I avoid avoid avoid! Still haven't filed my 2011 taxes and I should be getting a refund! But my brain just shuts down!

OK, I have to ask (and I'm not being judgey, just genuinely curious) - what is it with vegans and sweets? We go to quite a few vegan potlucks and there are always 3x as many desserts as "real" food! Many vegans I know also share your struggle with the vegan sweets.

Anyway, identifying a roadblock is the first step to overcoming it, so

I really missed my bike ride this week. I'm hoping for better weather tomorrow. I put my clipless pedals back on and I'm going to try out my new Camelbak. It will give me 2L of water so that should give me enough to ride just about 3 hours. I'm giddy with excitement!

Enjoy! I've never been able to get the hang of clipless pedals. It's quite comical, actually!

Have a great week!

What an awesome week! I normally don't take rest days but felt I needed it. Sunday was a HUGE calorie burning day and I loved it. I'm really loving my cycling on Sunday. I just wish I could get it in more than just one day a week.

In July I'm starting a program called Summer Shred that a blogger is doing. She's a personal trainer that I've followed for a while and really like her 20 Minute Tuesday workouts. I hope to be able to shed some body fat over the next month.

Have a great week!

Kelly
